Chapter 484: Letters

After interacting with his wife for so long, Fu Chen’an more or less understood her personality. Even though she looked soft and obedient, deep down, she was stubborn. If she made up her mind, almost nothing could change her decision.

“Then, make sure that you take good care of yourself. Don’t get too tired,” he reminded her.

Yao Zhi smiled when she heard this and nodded. “Husband, I will listen to you.”

The two of them chatted briefly before Fu Chen’an called the squad leaders under him over and said, “Distribute the soup to everyone. Each person can have a bowl.”

The soldiers’ eyes lit up at his words, and they replied in unison, “Understood.”

While the soldiers distributed the watermelon soup, Fu Chen’an took his wife on a tour of the estate. Since they couldn’t ride the same horse, Yao Zhi took out another horse from her system’s grassland.

In two weeks, the soil quality in the farmland area had improved by leaps and bounds. The previously dry and sandy soil was no longer sandy and already retained some water.

Although it could only be classified as low-quality farmland for now, with the nourishment of spiritual energy and fertilizer, it was only a matter of time before it became high-quality farmland.

In the area used as the animal farm, the pen walls had been built, and they were currently constructing the roofs. Near the animal farm, there was a vast area specially prepared for processing manure into fertilizer.

As for the mountain foothills used for orchards, they had been cleared, and the soil had been plowed and fertilized.

Since the soil quality in this area was far better than that of the farmland before she placed the Qi Gathering Formation, they could start planting the fruit trees soon.

Besides the farmland, animal farm, and orchard, only the dormitories were currently under construction.

The workshop area was put on hold due to the lack of manpower. Once they finished building the dormitories, they would build the workshops, granaries, and warehouses next.

Yao Zhi spent several hours checking the progress of the project. When they finished, the sun had slanted toward the western horizon.

Fu Chen’an accompanied his wife to collect the empty large vats and escorted her to the estate’s main gate.

Only after watching her horse carriage leave the southern outskirts did he return to the military barracks to report the work progress to his superior.

As the night deepened, Northeast City slowly returned to tranquility. When the clock struck 9 o’clock in the evening, the curfew was enforced, and most people had already gone to sleep.

In the blink of an eye, several days had passed. The letters sent by Xue Ya’er finally arrived at the General Mansion at dawn.

As the messenger knocked on the side gate, the guard opened it and saw the messenger’s token. Noticing that this person was the messenger who often followed the Madam, he quickly opened the gate wider and said, “Sir, please come in.”

The messenger nodded and handed the horse’s reins to the guard. Afterward, he went to the side yard near the backyard, where the servants’ quarters were located.

This was not the first time he had arrived at dawn. So, he went to the kitchen with familiarity and got some hot water to freshen up before going to sleep.

In the morning, the guard went to find Steward Han.

Seeing him coming, Steward Han asked, “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”

The guard cupped his fists and replied, “Uncle Han, Sir Wu Gang arrived at dawn.”

Hearing this, Steward Han nodded and waved his hand. “You can go back to your post.”

“Understood.”

After sending the guard away, Steward Han went to the servants’ quarters and walked toward the courtyard reserved for the messengers.

When he arrived, he met several messengers who were on their way to the kitchen. Seeing him, they cupped their fists and greeted him, “Good morning, Steward Han.”

Even though he was the General Mansion’s steward, these messengers were skilled martial artists personally hired by the Marquis. So, he didn’t dare put on airs and returned their greetings.

“Good morning, everyone.”

After the brief greetings, they parted ways and went about their own business. Steward Han entered the courtyard and knocked on the only door that was still closed.

Soon after, he heard a hoarse voice coming from inside. “Who is it?”

“Xiao Wu, it’s me.”

Recognizing the steward’s voice, Wu Gang opened the door with a yawn. Meeting Steward Han’s gaze, he took several letters from his clothes.

As he handed the letters to him, he said, “Uncle Han, these are letters from Madam for you, Dong Mei, and Qiu Yue.”

Steward Han accepted the letters and nodded. “Thank you for your hard work, Xiao Wu. You can go back to sleep. I won’t bother you anymore.”

Wu Gang let out another yawn before replying, “Okay.”

After leaving the servants’ quarters, Steward Han went to the courtyard located between the front yard and the backyard, where he usually handled the mansion’s affairs.

Sitting behind his desk, he asked a servant to call Dong Mei and Qiu Yue over. While waiting for them, he opened the letter addressed to him.

There was only a single sheet of paper inside, but the instructions were concise and clear. From the writing style, he knew that the letter had been written by Ah Jun under the Lady’s orders.

He noted down the instructions and put the letter away.

Half an hour later, both Dong Mei and Qiu Yue arrived.

After entering Steward Han’s office, both of them curtsied to him and said in unison, “Greetings, Steward Han.”

Steward Han nodded and gestured for them to enter. “Both of you are here.”

Soon after they stood a few steps in front of his desk, he handed the letters to them while saying, “These are letters from the Lady addressed to both of you.”

Both Dong Mei and Qiu Yue exchanged glances before accepting the letters. Instead of reading them privately, they opened the letters and read them on the spot.
