Chapter 446: Imperial Edict, Rewards, Relocation ( 2 )

Gao Yan and his brothers-in-arms didn’t want to depend on a woman, but right now, they had no other choice. The General’s wife was a good negotiator and a very wise person.

Since they needed a huge amount of materials, they couldn’t ask for them for free. In the end, they would need to spend money to buy them. Since it was a business transaction, it was best to leave it to the expert.

After they reached an agreement, they went to gather the troops.

As the sound of drums echoed throughout the military camp, the soldiers dropped what they were doing and rushed to the main field.

In less than 10 minutes, all of the soldiers stood in neat lines with their armor and weapons.

Not long after, Lu Qianxuan walked onto the tall platform, followed by Wen Liyan. Standing in front of almost 100,000 soldiers, he glanced at them.

Donned in his armor, his gaze was sharp, and he exuded the majestic aura of a General. As someone who had killed countless enemies, his killing intent was thick, making others feel pressured.

Besides the sound of the wind blowing the sand, the entire area was silent.

Taking out the Imperial Edict, Lu Qianxuan handed it to Wen Liyan and said, “Read it.”

Accepting the Imperial Edict with both hands, Wen Liyan opened it. The next moment, all of the soldiers knelt with their heads lowered in unison.

Wen Liyan cleared his throat and said in a clear, loud voice, “By the Mandate of Heaven, the Emperor decrees that Lu Qianxuan, the Great General of the White Tiger Army, is valiant, loyal, and wise.”

“His fierce determination, efforts, and sacrifices in defending Great Yan’s lands from enemy aggression are commendable and should serve as a model for all of Great Yan’s sons for generations to come.”

“Thus, he is granted the title of Marquis of Zhongyong. This title shall be hereditary and passed down to his descendants for generations.”

“Along with his title, he shall be granted the Northeast City and all lands within a radius of 10,000 li surrounding it as his fief, including, but not limited to, its towns, villages, and natural resources.”

“He will also be granted the authority to promote and reward the soldiers and military officers who served in the White Tiger Army and contributed to the Great Yan Kingdom.”

“Let this be proclaimed throughout the realm so all may know. So be it.”

As soon as he finished reading the Imperial Edict, all the soldiers exclaimed in unison, “Long live the Emperor! Long live the Emperor! Long live the Emperor!”

Only after they finished thanking the Emperor did Lu Qianxuan say, “Everyone, rise!”

Following his command, all the soldiers moved in a uniform motion.

Now that the Imperial Edict had been read, Lu Qianxuan opened a scroll made of animal skin and said, “Those who are called, step forward!”

“Gao Yan, Bai Yunxiao, Lei Fu.”

Hearing their names, the three of them took several steps forward, knelt on one knee, cupped their fists, lowered their heads, and said in unison, “This subordinate is here!”

Lu Qianxuan glanced at them and said, “From today onward, Gao Yan, Bai Yunxiao, and Lei Fu will be promoted to the position of Prefectural Commander.”

“Each of you will command 2,000 soldiers and be responsible for defense, training, and recruiting troops for the Northeast City barracks. The three of you will report directly to Vice General Jiang Fei.”

“On top of the promotion, each of you will receive 1,000 taels of silver and 200 dan of grain as a reward.”

The moment they heard this, the three of them replied in unison, “Thank you, General!”

After the three of them, Yan Shu and several Centurions were also promoted to the position of Battalion Commander to fill the vacant ranks. Even Xiao Wei was promoted to Centurion and now commanded 100 soldiers.

But out of all those being promoted, Fu Chen’an was the one who stood out the most.

“Fu Chen’an.”

Hearing his name being called, Fu Chen’an walked forward and knelt on one knee. “This subordinate is here!”

“From today onward, Fu Chen’an will take the position of Battalion Commander and command 500 soldiers. You will report directly to Prefectural Commander Gao.”

“On top of this promotion, you will receive 1,000 taels of gold and 500 dan of grain as a reward for gathering enemy intelligence, obtaining the city defense map, and beheading the barbarian Great General.”

As soon as Lu Qianxuan finished his words, everyone was stunned.

They had heard that the person who beheaded the enemy’s Great General was a Squad Leader. But there were thousands of Squad Leaders in the army. They didn’t know who it was until today.

With this discovery, they couldn’t help but look at him a little longer.

Fu Chen’an had already been informed about his promotion, but he never expected to be rewarded with money and food. So, it took him a moment to respond.

“Thank you, General!”

After the announcement of the promotions and rewards, Lu Qianxuan said, “Now that the Northeast City is no longer under the Imperial Court’s direct jurisdiction, it’s time to establish the military barracks.”

Turning to the side, he called out, “Gao Yan, Bai Yunxiao, Lei Fu!”

“This subordinate is here!”

“I will leave the matter of recruiting soldiers and clearing the southern area of the Northeast City to the three of you.”

Since this was their first task after being promoted, they were determined to do a good job.

“This subordinate obeys!”

After delegating the tasks to his subordinates, Lu Qianxuan left the area, followed by the high-ranking officers, including Fu Chen’an.

When they had left, the soldiers dispersed and returned to their own tasks.

Now that they planned to establish military barracks there, they needed to distribute the tasks and responsibilities clearly to avoid confusion in the future.

Those who were assigned to take posts in the Northeast City were given time to write letters to inform their families. The letters would be delivered to the White Tiger Army’s main barracks by messengers.
