The Master and His Wealthy Fiancée

Xuan Kexin was a bit surprised that Li Huiran wasn’t angry. She didn’t dwell on it, though. Perhaps Li Huiran’s temper had changed since they’d last seen each other.

”If he doesn’t know how, I can teach him. I guarantee he’ll learn everything within two months,” Xuan Kexin said, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

Li Huiran couldn’t figure it out. ’Why is Xuan Kexin so fixated on Chen Dong? Didn’t he just come back today?’

She glanced back at Chen Dong’s attitude. ’He’d never agree to actually be a secretary.’

So Li Huiran tried again with Xuan Kexin, her tone pleading. ”Sweetie, can we please not use him? He’s clumsy, and he has a bad temper!”

Xuan Kexin was puzzled as well. ’Why not Chen Dong?’

Her gaze shifted suspiciously between Li Huiran and Chen Dong. ’Do they have some kind of secret? Or is Chen Dong her kept man? Otherwise, why would he be so brazen? A mere deputy team leader daring to sit in the general manager’s chair, with such a terrible temper, even talking back to the finance manager. And Huiran keeps trying to stop me from making him my secretary.’

Then, Xuan Kexin said suspiciously, ”If he lacks skill, I can teach him. If he has a bad temper, I can discipline him. Those aren’t real reasons. Unless, between the two of you...”

Li Huiran quickly cut her off. ”Don’t let your imagination run wild! I’m thinking of you. It’s better to have a secretary who’s competent and easy to work with! Besides, I never told you about the people in his department. They’re all backed by the board of directors—a few rich young masters just coasting here. For the company’s sake, it’s best not to offend them.”

Hearing Li Huiran’s explanation, it all clicked for Xuan Kexin. ’No wonder he’s so arrogant, and no wonder Huiran tolerates it. He has powerful backing.’ Since she was new to the company, she didn’t want to make things difficult for Li Huiran, so she immediately dropped the idea of making Chen Dong her secretary.

She nodded. ”Alright, I’ll just pick a new secretary then. Huiran, I’m going to get back to work!”

With that, she stood up to leave, shooting Chen Dong a threatening glare on her way out. Clearly, she wasn’t going to let this go so easily!

Chen Dong shook his head in resignation. ’Women these days are so much trouble.’

He took his feet off the desk and said to Li Huiran, ”Sign the contract. Then find some people to take over the Huang Company.”

Li Huiran was taken aback. ’What did this have to do with the Huang Family?’ When Chen Dong had come in, he’d tossed a contract at her, and she hadn’t had a chance to read it carefully.

She walked over to her desk and picked up the contract again. A quick glance was enough to leave her stunned. It was a transfer agreement for the Huang Company and all its assets.

She shot Chen Dong an incredulous look before carefully reading through the contract.

She read it line by line, clause by clause. There was nothing wrong with the contract. The Huang Family’s signature and seal were already on it; all that was needed was a signature on their side for it to become effective. And it could be anyone’s signature.

In other words, if even a beggar were to find this contract and sign their name, they would instantly become a tycoon with a net worth of nearly a hundred billion.

This made Li Huiran doubt the contract’s authenticity. ”This can’t be fake, can it?” she asked. ”Chen Dong, are you messing with me?”

Chen Dong picked up Li Huiran’s coffee mug and took a sip, his brow furrowing slightly. ’This doesn’t taste good.’

He met Li Huiran’s angry gaze and said nonchalantly, ”Huang Biehe gave it to me personally. Is there a problem with the contract?”

Li Huiran instantly forgot about him drinking from her mug and pressed, ”The contract itself is fine, but why would Huang Biehe give this to you? Is this another one of the Huang Family’s schemes?”

Chen Dong chuckled. ”If there’s no problem with the contract, then there’s no problem. What scheme could there be? Huang Biehe said it was his fault for relentlessly targeting the Li Family in the past. He’s giving his family fortune to the Li Family as a token of his apology.”

Li Huiran’s face was a mask of disbelief. ’Even if Huang Biehe had gone senile, he wouldn’t do something like this!’

But Chen Dong just urged her, ”Sign it! Someone’s handing you a fortune, and you’re going to turn it down? Besides, it’s their apology!”

Li Huiran picked up the pen but couldn’t bring herself to sign. ’What if this is a trap?’ she worried. ’And whose name should I even sign? Chen Dong brought the contract, so if this is legitimate, it should be in his name. But if it is a trap, I can’t sign his name. Chen Dong has already done so much for the Li Family. My conscience wouldn’t be clear if I let him walk into another trap.’

She hesitated for a long time. Unable to watch any longer, Chen Dong stood up, took her hand in his, glanced at her signature on a nearby document, and guided her hand to sign her own name, perfectly replicating the strokes.

Li Huiran let out a huge sigh of relief. ’If it’s a trap, it’s best that it’s in my name. If not, I can always transfer it back to Chen Dong later.’

Her mind made up, she took her personal seal from a drawer and stamped it firmly over the signature.

Looking at the signature on the contract, a perfect replica of her own, Li Huiran suddenly felt a pang of shyness, her heart thrown into a flurry. She glanced at the coffee mug he had drunk from, feeling incredibly flustered in his presence.

Blushing, she said, ”The contract is signed. I’ll have someone test the waters with the Huang Company. You can go now.”

But Chen Dong showed no sign of leaving. He casually flipped through a file on her desk and asked, ”Want to go home together after work?”

Hearing those simple words, it was as if a string had been plucked in Li Huiran’s heart, and she was overcome with shyness. ”I know, I know!” she said hurriedly.

At the same time, she snatched the file from his hands and pushed him out of the office.

After Chen Dong had gone, Li Huiran sat in her chair for a long time, her expression downcast and sorrowful. She muttered to herself, ”It’s a shame he already has another woman.”
