Chapter 4015: It’s Human Nature To Be Selfish

When Commander Xia knew that Ye Jian saw her comrade stab a knife into Little Six’s chest with her own eyes and couldn’t stop herself from vomiting blood, his expression had immediately turned sharp. He quickly called a psychologist to ask about the potential psychological problems she would face.

It could be said that Commander Xia had been waiting for Ye Jian to wake up. He wanted to enlighten Ye Jian immediately so that she wouldn’t have any sequelae after the battle. That was what often happened when a soldier saw their comrade collapse.

He would never allow Ye Jian to have this kind of sequela that would trouble her for life.

Commander Xia was relieved now. His son and future daughter-in-law, who he was so proud of, had returned safely. He could finally have a good sleep tonight.

Zhou Yijin was sleeping soundly. Her sleeping posture wasn’t proper. Commander Xia covered her with a blanket and quietly sat at the side to rest.

The three children were fine. He felt at ease sitting down.

Zhou Yijin had never suffered much since she was young. Although she entered the military unit and became a military arts soldier, she didn’t suffer as much as Little Ye did during her month of training. However, this time, she had received a big shock.

She seemed to have lost a lot of weight. She needed to replenish her energy.

Commander Xia sat quietly for a while before getting up to leave. He had been in Yun Province for many days. It was time to return to the military.

Zhou Yijin, who was woken up by hunger, opened her eyes in a daze. She looked at the side of the bed unintentionally. Then, she saw a black shadow and screamed.

The armed police officer outside had already placed his hand on the door lock. He thought for a moment and retracted his hand.

The chief probably didn’t turn on the lights, which scared the female soldier.

Zhou Yijin was shocked. Commander Xia, who was thinking about something, got a shock too. He said in a low voice, “Yijin, it’s me, Third Uncle.”

The lights were turned on with a click. Zhou Yijin’s face was pale. She looked at her uncle with shock in her eyes. Her teeth were trembling. “Third Uncle, you scared me so much that my soul left my body! I thought I had been kidnapped again!”

“There are a bunch of people guarding you outside. Why are you afraid of getting kidnapped? Who can kidnap you?” Commander Xia rubbed his temples that were hurting from the scream. He wanted to ask her where she was feeling unwell, but Zhou Yijin had already opened her mouth anxiously.

“Third Uncle, have you seen Sixth Cousin-in-law? Is she back? How is she now? Is she in the hospital too?”

After a series of questions, Commander Xia couldn’t help but laugh. This woman was two years older than Little Ye, but she addressed Little Ye as ‘Sixth Cousin-in-law’ so easily.

“Your sixth cousin-in-law is fine. She’s in the same hospital as you. I just saw her. Everything is fine. You just need to take care of yourself.”

When Zhou Yijin heard this, she fell back onto the bed forcefully. She started talking about her own affairs.

In the end, she sobbed softly and said to Commander Xia, “Third Uncle, I feel that I’ll never be able to become a female soldier like Sixth Cousin-in-law. I won’t be able to be like Sixth Cousin-in-law who came to save me without any fear because of my words alone.

“Third Uncle, am I very selfish? Sixth Cousin-in-law can risk her life to save me, but I’ve asked myself many times if I can do the same. There’s only one answer. I can’t do it. I really can’t.”

It seemed like the person with the most psychological trauma wasn’t Little Ye. It was his niece, Yijin.

Commander Xia poured a glass of warm water and passed it to her. He said kindly, “Silly girl, how can you think that way? Your responsibilities are different from your sixth cousin-in-law’s. Everything is different.

“It’s human nature to be selfish. Besides, if you’re selfish, you’ll know how to protect yourself. Let me ask you. If you know that your sixth cousin-in-law is in danger one day, will you find someone to save her? Will you be afraid of retaliation?”
