Desheng Inn.

Mao Dewang quickly ran over when he saw Yang Ruxin enter: ”Madam?”

”Two upper rooms.” Yang Ruxin nodded.

”Right this way.” Mao Dewang hurriedly led them inside, ”I’ll take the madam upstairs.”

”Not needed for now; my horse has a problem. Could you send two barrels of clean water to the backyard, please?” Yang Ruxin walked straight through the hall toward the back courtyard.

Mao Dewang frowned slightly and quickly called over two attendants, one to deliver the water to the back, and one to send a message outside.

Zhui Yun was originally a wild horse king and, after becoming Yang Ruxin’s steed, just like Xiaolun and Xiaohei, often had various medicine pills mixed into its feed. Its muscles and digestive system had long been tempered, so these poisons couldn’t trouble it; at most, it would feel uncomfortable for a while when the poison was active, including Yang Xiong’s steed, which was also a wild horse, so it would be much better. However, Chai Qin’s mount, Talan, couldn’t manage.

Though Talan was a top-grade warhorse chosen by Gu Qingheng and fed medicine pills, its constitution couldn’t compare to Zhui Yun’s. While the poison couldn’t kill it, the reaction would be much more intense once it kicks in, posing great danger to the rider.

That’s why she decided to stay the night, to ensure the horse’s safety before continuing the journey.

Choosing Desheng Inn was because it belonged to Prince Yun, offering naturally safer accommodations.

The poison affecting the three horses was called Drunken Fairy Grass.

This toxin causes horses to suddenly become frenzied when it flares up; if the rider’s reaction is too slow, they might be thrown off, possibly severely injured or killed, and the horse would keep rampaging, trampling the person to death. However, the toxic reaction lasts only about an hour, after which the horse slowly calms down, showing no signs of poisoning—making it hard for anyone to believe it was poisoned.

But at this moment, the two horses in the courtyard remained calm; they had consumed medicine pills, been force-fed two large barrels of water, and after urinating several times, were basically fine.

Yang Ruxin sighed in relief, patting the two horses: ”Have a good meal later, then rest for the night. Tomorrow, you’ll still be top horses.”

Zhui Yun, attuned to her feelings, shook its head at Yang Ruxin and snorted.

”Madam Ruyi personally tending to animals, quite rare indeed.” A teasing voice came from behind.

”Indeed.” Yang Ruxin didn’t turn her head, continuing to gently stroke Zhui Yun, ”Some people have even eaten things I’ve personally prepared.”

Qi Jingyun hesitated, then gave a wry smile; this girl was notoriously sharp-tongued. But it didn’t matter; many had eaten her dishes, including the Emperor and the Empress Dowager. If they’d become beasts, they would all be beasts together.

Yang Ruxin naturally didn’t know Qi Jingyun’s thoughts; if she did, she’d probably laugh out loud.

”How come Prince Yun, busy with numerous affairs, is here?” Yang Ruxin finally stood up, turning to look at Qi Jingyun.

”How come Madam Ruyi, who should be heading to the capital by now, decided to stay?” Qi Jingyun raised his eyebrow slightly.

”I’ve been set up.” Yang Ruxin spread her hands helplessly, ”Someone claims Haijin City is their territory, yet they’ve been thoroughly embarrassed.”

Qi Jingyun chuckled, innocently spreading his hands: ”But this person has never sought my protection or made use of my influence.”
