I'm Trapped in the Block

Chapter 425: Chapter 422: Universal Container

’The last one.’

Mo Ling quietly watched the pavilion on the other side of the mirror’s surface.

In the antique pavilion, only one person remained.

The capable-looking young man—Shen Ping.

He looked very hesitant at that moment. His gaze toward the blue Olive held both fear and longing.

Finally, after a moment of struggle, Shen Ping walked under the blue Olive and, imitating the Immortals before him, made an oval gesture with his hands.

On the Olive, Shen Ping’s wish slowly began to manifest...

His family had once been well-off, but an accident changed everything.

His younger sister had been infected with a rare abyssal disease called Light Deficiency Syndrome. She could only cling to life by taking medicine, and after they could no longer afford the expensive miracle drugs, their family fell apart.

He was left alone to care for his sister...

Amidst the golden light, a relic slowly emerged.

It was a very quaint-looking Bronze cup.

Without hesitation, Mo Ling sent the Bronze cup to the other side of the mirror.

The water on the blue Olive rippled again. The Bronze cup fell from the air. Shen Ping hurriedly reached out to catch it, but the cup passed right through his palm and fell to the ground.

After witnessing this final scene, the blue Olive in front of Mo Ling violently burst apart. The scattering water completely blurred the mirror’s surface.

When the water gradually calmed, Mo Ling could no longer see what was happening on the other side. It was as if everything that had just occurred was merely an illusion...

’Is it over?’

The surrounding golden light rippled gently. No more relics appeared, and the mirror’s surface became indistinct, as if nothing had happened at all.

But the turbulent emotions in Mo Ling’s heart had not yet faded.

’I’ve fulfilled so many wishes, so why do I still feel so empty?’

Just as Mo Ling was lost in his turmoil, another beam of golden light suddenly grabbed him, pulling him away from the mirror and down into the depths.

The currents of the Golden Light Sea seemed to want to carry Mo Ling away, but the beam of golden light held him tightly, preventing him from being swept away.

”Don’t resist. Come with me. We’re almost there.”

A soft, ethereal voice, seemingly familiar, traveled up his arm.

Following the golden light, Mo Ling plunged deeper and deeper...

It was then that Mo Ling realized the sea wasn’t entirely golden. The deeper he went, the closer the currents seemed to be to a normal blue.

The golden light seemed to be concentrated in the upper part of the water; the farther down he went, the less of it there was.

Finally, as the sea’s color gradually returned to a deep blue, Mo Ling got a clear look at the golden light that was holding him.

It was a golden humanoid figure with a Block for a head.

”Little Elf?”

The figure before him was indeed the Little Elf, looking just as it had when they last parted ways.

”We need to go a little deeper, or they’ll grab you to do more work.” As the Little Elf spoke, it pulled Mo Ling deeper into the sea.

It only slowed to a stop when their surroundings became completely dark.

”What are you doing here?” Mo Ling asked anxiously the moment they stopped.

”This is my race’s gathering place. Of course I’m here.”

”The Sea of Creation is your race’s gathering place?” Mo Ling found that a bit hard to believe.

But he quickly figured out the connection.

”You fulfill the wishes of other beings here?”

”Yes. Our individual power is limited, so we must gather together to grant those races’ ’god-making’ wishes.” The Little Elf pointed upward. ”All those up there are my kin.”

Mo Ling glanced up at the golden light congregating at the sea’s surface. ”They’re all from the wish-granting race? Why did they ignore me when I tried to communicate with them before?”

”They ignore me, too. It’s normal,” the Little Elf replied with a shrug of its hands.

”Why do they ignore you? Aren’t you the same race?”

”I don’t know.” The Little Elf shook its head.

Mo Ling was stunned. He thought that meeting the Little Elf would solve all his problems, but it turned out the Little Elf only had a partial understanding of things itself.

”What did you mean just now when you said they were grabbing me to do work?”

”It’s the literal meaning. They think you’re useful, so they grab you to do work. They’ve grabbed me before, too, but I ran away. They’re too busy granting wishes to bother with me.”

Listening to the Little Elf’s explanation, Mo Ling nodded repeatedly.

”They really have been grabbing me to work ever since I entered the Sea of Creation...”

Mo Ling told the Little Elf everything that had happened to him since arriving in the Sea of Creation.

He became the god of the petrified stones, fulfilling their wish for petrification. Then he became the god of the sponge-like creatures, satisfying their desire for slaughter. Finally, he was brought before the mirror to haphazardly ”distribute” relics.

Rushing from one thing to the next, Mo Ling didn’t even know what he was busy with. He just felt like he was constantly ”becoming a god” only to fall from the Divine Altar, and he was starting to feel numb to it all.

Now he was being inexplicably pushed around by the golden light, leaving him dizzy and disoriented.

”It’s because you’re a very useful universal vessel. Wishes can easily converge on you, so they’ll keep seeking you out,” the Little Elf explained helplessly after listening to Mo Ling’s complaints.

”Universal vessel?”

”Yes. They need to gather the wishes of those races onto a vessel. It makes granting the wish more convenient and easier to focus their power. That’s the purpose of the divine items those races bring.”

The Little Elf raised its hand and pointed to the Block on Mo Ling’s head.

”The wishes of different races are different, and their natures vary. To gather wishes, you need different ’containers’.”

”You use a cup for water and a basket for vegetables. The wishes of different races need to be held in different containers. That’s why their divine items are all different, but their function is the same.”

”If you use the wrong container, you can’t gather the wish, just like you can’t use a basket to hold water.”

”But they discovered that you’re a universal container, a very useful one. So they’re taking you everywhere to hold wishes, without any regard for what might already be in the container...”

At this, the Little Elf paused.

”That’s why they ignore you. They just see you as a very useful tool. No one talks to a tool.”

Hearing the Little Elf’s explanation, Mo Ling first had a moment of realization, then felt a surge of anger.

”I thought they were just asking for my help, but it turns out they were just using me. They don’t even see me as someone they can communicate with.”

The Little Elf sighed as well. ”That’s just how they are. After I discovered we were the same race, I tried to communicate too, but they just grabbed me and put me to work with them. When I asked why we were doing this, they didn’t answer...”

As it spoke, the Little Elf scratched its head, seeming genuinely perplexed. ”I always feel like... they’re just like machines.”
