Chapter 45: Chapter 44: Inside the Temple

Inside the massive Temple.

In the center, surrounded by towering stone pillars, stood an exquisite statue of the Goddess.

The Goddess’s robes flowed like molten liquid, twisting and contorting, until their ends, with a sudden twist, were sculpted into a variety of plants.

Her lower body was a coiled serpent’s tail, and from that tail sprouted a bizarre assortment of animal limbs.

This Goddess, a chimera of various creatures, had the head of a remarkably beautiful woman, her gaze fixed benevolently on the distance.

The Goddess’s hands, overgrown with all kinds of plants, were held out in front of her. A vine snaked upwards, and cradled diagonally in her palms was a strange spinal column.

The tall, square base of the statue was covered in carvings of a web-like grid of circles. In the center of each circle was a small dot, making them look like tightly packed cells.

The long spine extended past the base, coiling as it fell to the floor before finally burrowing deep into the ground.

The lifelike sculpture captured everyone’s attention, and Mo Ling found himself immersed in its grotesque beauty.

He suddenly realized that the spine in the Goddess’s hands looked just like one he had in his Block.

Mo Ling quickly took a look. They were indeed strikingly similar.

But the spine wasn’t the most important thing right now. What mattered was the figure on the ground in front of the Goddess.

It stood there ramrod straight, its back to the crowd, facing the Goddess.

It was the Sheep-headed Man.

What stood before it made everyone afraid to make a rash move, including the two races who had already arrived.

It was a huge wooden rack. Several intersecting logs formed a star-like shape.

This rack was stuck straight into the ground, and on it was a person, barely alive.

It was a Flesh Race person, their body completely red.

His arms and legs had been vertically split, sliced in two from tip to root. Each half was bound by vines to the upper parts of the star-shaped rack, leaving him dangling in the air.

The Sheep-headed Man had forcibly turned this Flesh Race person into a living rendition of the *Vitruvian Man*!

The chainsaw on its arm hadn’t even been retracted; it was still spinning rapidly.

Yet, the onlooking Flesh Race People didn’t intervene.

Because the wounds of the strung-up Flesh Race person were dripping with a transparent liquid!

The Flesh Race People stared at each other, looking at the rack in disbelief. They even carefully sniffed the air for the drifting scent.

The leader of the Transparent Race, however, wore a complex and very strange expression.

The Sheep-headed Man wasn’t finished. It kept fiddling with the dangling Flesh Race person.

It tightened the vines to keep the Flesh Race person from struggling. Although the person was still howling in agony, the Sheep-headed Man acted as if it heard nothing.

It also kept moving the rack, positioning it in the center of the Temple, directly in front of the Goddess statue.

This act of blasphemy against the statue was finally more than the Transparent Race People could bear.

”What are you doing? Get that thing out of here, now!” some of the Transparent Race People who had never seen the Sheep-headed Man before cursed as they stepped forward.

The Sheep-headed Man turned around, its two rectangular pupils staring blankly at the approaching Transparent Race person.

The person walked around the Sheep-headed Man and reached out to touch the rack, but just as his hand was raised, it left his body.

The Sheep-headed Man had swung its chainsaw in an upward arc, and an arm, dripping transparent liquid, fell straight to the ground.

It happened so fast that the Transparent Race person hadn’t even processed it, staring wide-eyed at his empty sleeve.

Only when pain shot through his entire body did he clutch the smooth cut at the root of his arm and scream in agony.

”AHHHH!”

A terrified howl echoed through the Temple.

The Sheep-headed Man didn’t attack again. Instead, it looked curiously at the dismembered Transparent Race person and let out a few bleats.

Then, it extended its own right hand and chopped it off with the saw.

A sheep’s hoof fell to the ground.

”BAA BAA BAA! BAA BAA BAA!” The Sheep-headed Man also cried out in pain, its voice echoing the other’s.

Seeing such a horrifying scene, the injured Transparent Race person forgot all about the desecrated statue and scrambled back toward his companions.

The Sheep-headed Man mimicked him, stumbling after the Transparent Race person while shouting, ”BAA BAA BAA!”

But after chasing for only a short distance, the Sheep-headed Man’s arm completely regenerated.

So it stopped mimicking. It came to an abrupt halt, turned, and walked back to the rack as if nothing had happened.

As if its previous actions had nothing to do with it, the Sheep-headed Man began carefully trimming the vines on the rack with its chainsaw.

The leader could no longer hold back and questioned the Flesh Race person beside him, ”You’ve found the culprit. Aren’t you going to deliver justice?”

A Flesh Race person shrugged and said nonchalantly, ”Culprit? It helped us find your spy. It should be considered a hero, if anything.”

The Flesh Race People didn’t even question why their kinsman was bleeding transparent liquid, instead directly branding him a ”spy.”

”I quite admire its work, actually. If you want to capture it, be my guest.” All the Flesh Race People looked quite pleased.

Just then, after enduring endless torture, the ”spy” on the rack finally breathed his last. His body began to turn transparent, the liquid constantly flowing downward.

The Sheep-headed Man grew frantic, ceaselessly tightening the vines, trying to hold the ”spy’s” body in place.

But the body was liquefying too quickly. The Sheep-headed Man’s efforts were ultimately futile, and realizing this, it finally stopped trying to salvage the situation.

It just stood before the rack, watching helplessly as its work of art reached its final moment.

After it was all over, the Sheep-headed Man picked up the empty rack and started walking out of the Temple.

At this point, a soldier in the group quietly asked Captain Su, ”Captain, should we attack it?”

”You want to attack it? You go. Do you think you can beat it right now?”

The soldier was choked into silence.

Everyone parted to make way. No one tried to stop the bizarre Sheep-headed Man.

As the Sheep-headed Man got closer, it seemed to recognize the Block floating in mid-air. It stood in place, lifted its rack, and gave it a little shake.

”Baa! Baa!”

After a few calls, it shouldered the rack again and walked away.

Noticing the soldier who had attacked it earlier was also there, it lifted the rack and waved it in the same way.

”What is it doing?” a soldier asked, confused.

”Greeting us?”

”Aren’t we its enemies? Why would it greet us?”

The soldiers whispered amongst themselves, guessing at the Sheep-headed Man’s intentions, but no one knew what it wanted.

When the Sheep-headed Man walked up to the Flesh Race People, one of them stepped forward to block its path and clapped it on the shoulder.

”Thanks for helping us get rid of the spy,” the Flesh Race person praised.

This scene startled everyone.

Just when everyone thought the Sheep-headed Man was about to attack, it simply let out two ”baas” and walked around the Flesh Race person, heading outside.

Mo Ling was shocked.

’Why didn’t it attack?’

Recalling the Sheep-headed Man’s previous actions, Mo Ling suddenly had a theory.

’It doesn’t proactively attack creatures with normal cells?’
