My Sister Insisted on Swapping Marriages, and I Became a Marchioness Instead

Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Seventh Princess Fu Yun

By lunch, Qin Yuan had already finished writing and left it laid out on the table to dry.

Hong Ye and Cui Ming returned, washed their hands, and set the table.

With Marquis Gu absent, the two, along with Qin Yuan, as usual, distributed the dishes. Qin Yuan said, ”Take some to Shen Changle and say it’s a gift for him, nothing more.”

A person like Shen Changle, if he had a tail, would become a great sage, he truly is quite bright.

Hong Ye nodded and said, ”Alright.”

Qin Yuan knew she wanted to get close to Shen Changle and smiled.

Soon, Hong Ye returned, and as she sat down, she said, ”Miss, Xiao Hong told me that the Marquis’s adopted son asked her to help write a letter, saying he wants to send it to the Marquis.”

”Oh?”

Qin Yuan raised an eyebrow, picked up a piece of rhombus-shaped rouge goose breast, dipped it in sauce made with yellow wine, and put it in her mouth.

Her neat, white teeth gently bit down; the chef did an excellent job. Without much effort, it separated, and the rich flavor instantly filled her lips and tongue.

”The red goose with wine is truly flavorful,” Qin Yuan softly praised.

Cui Ming continued Hong Ye’s words, asking, ”What did he ask Xiao Hong to write?”

Hong Ye said, ”Xiao Hong said he listened to what Miss said, and plans to study hard. In the future, he wants to become an Advanced Scholar to show Miss, saying he promised the Marquis to study at the Imperial College.”

Qin Yuan hurriedly swallowed the goose breast in her mouth and drank some water, which prevented her from choking.

It seems Brother Cheng wants to enter the Imperial College to become an Advanced Scholar, and I’m the reason.

Hong Ye said, ”I don’t know if the Pang Family has any scholarly talent or not, but regardless, this is something for the Marquis to consider.”

Qin Yuan nodded and said, ”Having ambitions is always good.”

In the past life, Pang Cheng seemed to have become an Assistant General, always serving beside Marquis Gu.

She still remembered, after Dingbei Marquis’s great victory at the Northern Border, floods and droughts were frequent, and the court was too weak to continue fighting. The Yelv Family dared not enter the Central Plains again, only constantly causing disturbances at the border.

Marquis Gu never seemed to leave the Capital City again. The military hadn’t fought for years, and the civil servants repeatedly petitioned the court to suppress the military generals. Military pay was continuously cut, and five or six out of ten soldiers returned to their fields.

It must be said, Old Madam Gu’s choice to abandon military for civil service was correct.

However, if the Yelv Family attacks in the future, there would be no prominent generals or soldiers to call upon.

Even Lin Ziqi, who had climbed to the Prime Minister’s position, said the Yelv Family would be the downfall of this dynasty in the future.

But on the court, he was the loudest about suppressing the military generals.

A clear image of ”After my death, let the floodwaters rise” so to speak.

Qin Yuan chuckled softly, picked up a piece of eggplant stewed with wild chicken, soft and flavorful, a perfect complement to rice.

The things she just thought about were too far removed from her. As a woman in the inner chambers, she needed to live her life well; she could see through the court affairs, but had no influence over them, having power without the ability to use it.

Thus, there’s no need to worry about such idle matters.

...

In the military camp, General Jin frowned, intensely staring at the young scholar in a blue scholar’s robe beside the gentle and jade-like Prince Qi.

Though this scholar was not as handsome as Prince Qi, he was still good-looking, albeit with a somewhat delicate demeanor. His speech and actions were somewhat feminine, with fair and tender skin, and his phoenix eyes were intently fixed on his general, seemingly filled with deep emotions.

Does Prince Qi favor men?

Has Prince Qi’s male favorite set his sights on the general?

General Jin, already burly with a full beard like a big bear, staring unwaveringly at someone, indeed resembled a clumsy bear eyeing prey. The scholar angrily glared back, asked indignantly, ”What are you looking at?”

General Jin: ”...”

Can’t he even look? Who cares if you look effeminate?

Gu Jinghui frowned deeply, his sharp gaze swept over General Jin, then toward Prince Qi, coldly saying, ”What are you doing bringing outsiders to a military camp, a place of importance?”

Even bringing a scholar with a delicate air.

This is the Great Camp, after all.

Prince Qi, good-humoredly, chuckled, ”This is the Seventh Princess, Fuyun. When my third brother went to the Northern Border, she was just starting to remember things. Upon hearing I’m visiting the military camp to see my third brother, she insisted on coming along.”

”A woman?”

General Jin, shocked, couldn’t control his mouth, exclaiming in surprise, and promptly covered his mouth.

This is a princess!

Gu Jinghui’s face darkened further, impatiently saying, ”This is a military camp, not a place for women and children or a site for amusement and sightseeing. By rights, you shouldn’t have been allowed in.”

Princess Fuyun quickly stepped forward to pay respects, holding her jade-like face up, softly saying, ”Third brother, you saved me when I was a child, have you forgotten? Hearing Brother Qi was coming to the military camp, I insisted on seeing my savior. If there’s any misunderstanding, I ask third brother for forgiveness. Brother Qi also had no choice but to comply due to my insistence, so blame me instead.”

Gu Jinghui had already stepped aside, not daring to accept her courtesy.

General Jin wished he could shrink away and hide somewhere.

”Third brother.”

”Savior.”

This Seventh Princess is greatly favored by the Emperor, and she’s of the same mother as Prince Qi, both children of the late Empress.

Truly troublesome.

After Princess Fuyun finished speaking, Gu Jinghui raised his gaze, giving a frosty look to the smiling Prince Qi, then calmly said, ”That was a matter of the past; I can no longer recall it. It was likely not a significant event, just a casual act. I’m hardly a savior, nor should the Seventh Princess concern herself with it. Princess, you are of noble status and should not step into a military camp; it’s better to return with your brother as soon as possible. This is no place for a princess.”

Prince Qi laughed, ”Third brother, I truly came to see you about your sister-in-law’s situation. Fuyun was simply mischievous and wanted to visit. Back then, by the Peach Blossom Pond near Jiaofang Palace, when you pulled her away, it saved her from falling in. During that chilly spring, with no one else around, if a child like her had fallen, she might not have survived. You truly qualify as a savior.”

Gu Jinghui puzzledly frowned, unable to remember, he said, ”That was just something I happened upon and casually did. In my youth, I often entered the palace and saw the Seventh Princess a few times when she was little, but I can’t remember too clearly anymore; I didn’t expect her to grow up so much.”

Joy appeared on Princess Fuyun’s face.

Prince Qi sighed, ”Yes, she’s grown so much. This little girl has always kept in mind it was you who saved her. The last time you returned triumphant, she reserved the Chunfeng Deyi Building beside Horizontal Street just to watch you enter the city.”

Gu Jinghui’s expression softened, but he continued to insist, ”It would be best for Prince Qi to take the Seventh Princess away soon; this isn’t a suitable place for you to stay long.”

General Jin nodded to himself.

They’ve toiled for many years in the Northern Border to make progress, not fit to be too closely associated with the princes.

Besides, the Crown Prince born of the new Empress is frail, and many believe he may not have long to live.

Marquis Gu should avoid getting entangled in dangerous waters.

Prince Qi helplessly said, ”I’ve come this far, and everyone who needs to know already does, but if I leave without saying anything significant, wouldn’t it be a waste of time and effort?”

Princess Fuyun also said, ”Third brother, I promise not to cause trouble, I just want to sit for a bit and leave. After all, it’s proper to thank a savior in person; even if I shout it to the heavens, I have reason.”
