My Sister Insisted on Swapping Marriages, and I Became a Marchioness Instead

Chapter 93: Chapter 93: The Wind Is Blowing All to One Side

”Marquis, you’ve just gotten married; why not take a longer leave? With peace throughout the land, there’s not much happening, and the Emperor would understand your situation.”

General Jin brought up the topic, curious about the happenings at the Marquis Mansion these days.

He couldn’t attend the wedding banquet that day due to his duty, but his wife had returned and told him how Lady Zhao, in mourning, caused a scene in Marquis’s nuptial chamber, only to be asked to leave by the beautiful Marchioness.

General Jin was unsure if the back courtyard of the Marquis Mansion would remain peaceful.

However, there hadn’t been any rumors these days.

General Jin still wanted to hear what the principal had to say.

Gu Jinghui sighed and said, ”As a general, I cannot indulge in love affairs; national matters must take precedence. With significant threats still looming, how can we sheath our swords and relax?”

The battle at the Northern Border, though a great victory, had drained both sides of strength, and the Yelv Family, once recovered, would surely make a comeback.

The Gu Family had already lost several lives at the Northern Border.

Such deep-seated hatred cannot be set aside.

General Jin sighed in response, abruptly changing the subject, ”General, while national matters are important, you should also think about having a son so Old Madam Gu can be at ease sooner.”

Gu Jinghui replied, ”My sixth brother has many sons, who have now shifted to literary pursuits. The Gu Family has successors, but as for me...”

He still hadn’t consummated the marriage yet.

How could he say that?

General Jin immediately seized the opportunity, ”What’s the matter? Is it discord with the Marchioness? Though not particularly talented, I have some insights into marital relations. We, following the general, risk our lives for our future, not neglecting marrying and having children or taking concubines. When it comes to battles, none of us measures up to the general, but regarding matters between men and women, we are all veterans.”

In truth, he was deeply concerned about the general having an heir soon.

But the general insisted that as long as Yelv existed, how could he prioritize his family?

Though the Yelv Clan had been driven into hiding in the mountains, the Marquis had now married and should consider having children soon, shouldn’t he?

If Marquis Gu had no sons, who would their descendants follow in the future?

The Sixth Master was like a fledgling, never having set foot on the battlefield.

Not to mention those children of the Sixth Master who have taken a literary path.

General Jin looked down on them all.

Marquis Gu hesitated, finally lamenting, ”My wife is extremely clingy, her heart full of me, but she’s young and tends to hold grudges. Well, I don’t know what to do.”

Clingy as she is, her holding grudges can be intimidating, to the point that he hasn’t been able to return to the main chamber to sleep.

General Jin was taken aback.

This...

This was not what he had thought.

”It seems the Marchioness holds deep affection for the Marquis. How is she toward Lady Zhao and her children?”

The question was already straightforward enough.

It only stopped short of asking if the Marchioness could tolerate Lady Zhao.

Madam Jin had returned and scolded Lady Zhao thoroughly, saying she was shameless for behaving that way toward the bride.

Moreover, she commented that the Marchioness was no pushover.

When two tigers fight, one is bound to get hurt.

The Dingbei Marquis Mansion was sure to face turmoil, and Madam Jin planned to visit less or not at all to avoid getting entangled.

General Jin said it wouldn’t happen, but inwardly he thought it was either the east wind prevailing over the west or vice versa.

Marquis Gu sighed with sentiment, ”Things are well. Speaking of which, Lady Zhao truly doesn’t know how to raise children. Brother Cheng and Sister Yu are both over five years old and haven’t learned any manners. I think Brother Cheng should start schooling, and Sister Yu should have a nanny.”

General Jin: ”...”

This...

Marquis Gu added, ”I’ve sent Sixteen to Jizhou to find relatives of Brother Pang, to bring them to the Capital to help look after Lady Zhao’s two children. Lady Zhao staying alone with children in the Capital is not ideal. After all, I’m only a godfather and cannot make decisions for them.”

General Jin was greatly surprised.

Marquis Gu continued, ”We, being busy with commendations and dealing with the Ministry of Personnel, have neglected this. Lady Zhao should also think about informing the Pang Family, yet she hasn’t mentioned it.”

General Jin asked in shock, ”Does Lady Zhao know the general has sent Sixteen to Jizhou?”

Marquis Gu hesitated, ”I’m not sure if she knows or not. Brother Cheng and Sister Yu were ill just a few days ago, and after they recovered, she fell sick too. It’s my mother who’s been arranging everything.”

General Jin was even more shocked.

In just a few days, Marquis Gu’s attitude toward Lady Zhao had completely transformed.

This is...

Has the Marchioness completely overpowered Lady Zhao already?

He thought, after Lady Zhao’s efforts over the years, she would finally succeed.

The followers all believed that seeing the two children, the Marquis would agree to make Lady Zhao a concubine, but since she hadn’t completed mourning, it would be bad for her reputation.

After all, the flower is willing, but the flowing water is heartless.

General Jin took a deep breath, realizing how extraordinary this delicate, clingy, and vengeful Marchioness was.

”In my opinion, if Lady Zhao finds out about this, there may be trouble.”

Gu Jinghui was puzzled, ”Why?”

General Jin explained, ”My wife said that day Lady Zhao went to the nuptial chamber during mourning, upsetting the Marchioness, which required the Sixth Madam to ask her to leave. Lady Zhao even claimed... claimed that the Marquis is the father of her two children and questioned how she could continue staying in the Marquis Mansion like this.”

He glanced at Marquis Gu’s gloomy face, then added, ”Such behavior is improper not only in the Capital but even at the Northern Border. While the Marquis is generous to Lady Zhao for the sake of the children, Lady Zhao’s actions are...”

To act inappropriately suggests other motives.

General Jin watched as Gu Jinghui’s face changed from shock to red, then pale, and finally, nostalgia.

”So, the Marchioness suffered such grievances...”

Gu Jinghui let out a long sigh.

Only now did he realize how much Red Leaf and Cui Ming meant by suffering grievances.

Even Madam Jin secretly sympathized with her.

And all those rumors...

Gu Jinghui solemnly said, ”General Jin, Brother Pang has done me a great favor, so I must care for his wife and children. Lady Zhao is still young and may not wish to remain. When her family arrives, we do not know what she plans. If she wishes to remarry, I will help prepare a generous dowry. You should also keep an eye out to find a good husband for her.”

General Jin agreed, understanding that Lady Zhao had met her complete defeat and would be swept out by the Marchioness.

From now on, their families should stay away from Lady Zhao.

To avoid her unwillingness causing more trouble, which would be embarrassing for everyone.

In the future, his wife should visit the Marquis Mansion more and speak often with the Marchioness.

A soldier guarding outside loudly reported, ”General, Prince Qi’s envoy has delivered a letter outside the Great Camp, requesting a meeting.”

”Hiss...”

General Jin took another deep breath.

Why has Prince Qi come?

Gu Jinghui frowned, displeased, ”This is a military area. Has Prince Qi explained the reason?”

Meaning, if it’s official business, he’ll meet him; otherwise, he won’t.

Last time, he listened to that man’s nonsense, leading to a misunderstanding with Yuan’er. Luckily, it was all a mistake.

He hadn’t confronted him yet.

And now that man came again.

The soldier said, ”It’s about the Marchioness.”

Gu Jinghui: ”?”
