Scripture of Days Past

Chapter 309: We’ll Meet Again

In the blink of an eye, Li Yaofeng had turned the tables using the demon refining formation he had set up over the course of the battle. As they watched Bai Shihe’s hulking body erupt into flames, Fu Haotian and Zhang Fengyun were overcome by a sense of helplessness and despair.

At this point, I don’t think there’s anyone in Shu Province who can stand against Li Yaofeng, Fu Haotian said inwardly. It looks like this is where I fall. I can only count on Pope Huang to avenge us all.

Meanwhile, Qiao Zhi was observing Bai Shihe with a surprised expression.

What are those hand seals he used just now? I don’t recall there being any hand seals in the Sumeru Strength Scripture. It looks like he’s been gathering relics from the Vajra Temple over the years in an attempt to rectify the Sumeru Strength Scripture. Unfortunately, the gap between a Dao artist and a martial artist at the Dao Comprehension state is simply too vast for him to bridge.

Qiao Zhi then noticed Bai Shihe’s legs were completely still, and he thought, That said, it seems he hasn’t completely lost his mind yet. Is he planning to launch a sneak attack once Li Yaofeng lets down his guard?

Elsewhere on the battlefield, Chu Qiguang was locked in battle with the crimson panther conjured by Li Yaofeng.

Like Li Yaofeng, the crimson panther seemed able to predict its opponent’s attacks in advance. It could also disintegrate into blood at will, making it a very troublesome opponent.

To make matters worse, Chu Qiguang couldn’t use his most powerful cultivation arts and techniques in this feline form. Ideally, he would have had Qiao Zhi take control of his body, but Qiao Zhi was currently busy keeping watch over Liu Yao and Ning Chigong.

Despite this, Chu Qiguang remained largely unconcerned. He still had his two biggest trump cards up his sleeve: the Ring of Ignorance and the Demon Refinement Technique.

Without those two trump cards, Chu Qiguang knew that he stood no chance against Li Yaofeng. That was why he had never considered relying on his martial arts prowess to challenge Li Yaofeng directly.

As he fought the blood panther, Chu Qiguang constantly darted around and made subtle adjustments to his position, aiming to place himself so that only Li Yaofeng would be caught within the range of his Ring of Ignorance.

He had thought that he would have plenty of time to find the perfect position, but in the blink of an eye, Li Yaofeng had gained a decisive advantage over Bai Shihe. Bai Shihe’s spontaneous combustion reminded Chu Qiguang of the Vajra Monastery diary entry that described monks suddenly bursting into flames.

With no time to waste, Chu Qiguang quickly moved into position, ensuring that only Li Yaofeng and the blood panther would be caught within the range of his Demon Refinement Technique.

A peculiar force surged out of Chu Qiguang’s body and spread through the air in all directions.

The blood panther instantly fell still, having succumbed to the Demon Refinement Technique. As a demon that possessed the ability to disintegrate into blood, it came as no surprise to Chu Qiguang that it was susceptible to the Demon Refinement Technique.

At the same time, Li Yaofeng let loose an agonized cry. However, thanks to his lofty cultivation base, he was able to remain in control and immediately began resisting the effects of the Demon Refinement Technique.

The Demon Refinement Technique had been created three to four thousand years ago by Zhao Ji, the transmigrator from Earth who had also possessed a Ring of Ignorance.

The fact that Li Yaofeng could resist the Demon Refinement Technique made Chu Qiguang even warier of him, and he immediately activated his Ring of Ignorance as well.

This time, he didn’t hold back at all, releasing a vast amount of forbidden knowledge through his Ring of Ignorance, all of which came from the books he had read in the archive building on Jade Face Mountain.

Li Yaofeng had just begun to steady himself and ward off the effects of the Demon Refinement Technique when his entire body abruptly stiffened, and he let loose a bloodcurdling shriek.

Clutching his head, he slammed his forehead into the ground with enough force to make the earth tremble violently. His body began to writhe and bulge as if countless demons were threatening to tear their way out of his flesh.

The veins on the back of his hands bulged as he clawed at the ground. However, it took him only an instant to begin reining in the demons within his body, and he slowly rose to his feet, clearly shaken but completely unharmed.

This was the first time that Chu Qiguang had seen anyone withstand the effects of the Ring of Ignorance so easily, particularly given the quality of the knowledge he had released.

”What’re you waiting for, Bai Shihe?” Chu Qiguang yelled urgently.

Without Li Yaofeng controlling the blood formation, Bai Shihe was also able to suppress the demonic tainting within his body. He let loose a thunderous roar and forcefully brought his palms together.

An explosive burst of gale force erupted from between his palms and swept over his body like an avalanche, smothering the flames.

Meanwhile, Li Yaofeng had yet to fully regain his bearings, and Bai Shihe certainly wasn’t going to let such a golden opportunity slip away.

A sinister grin appeared on his face. He opened his mouth and let loose a mighty roar, causing the air before him to ripple visibly.

At the same time, he swung a giant fist at Li Yaofeng, sweeping up a ferocious gust of wind that lifted the latter half a meter off the ground.

His fist and the gale force struck Li Yaofeng’s head simultaneously, completely shattering his skull and sending intracranial fluids flying in all directions.

The rest of Li Yaofeng’s skeleton began to collapse under the immense force of Bai Shihe’s fist, and that was only the first punch.

Bai Shihe’s massive fists blurred as he unleashed a rapid barrage of punches. Within mere seconds, Li Yaofeng’s entire upper body had been pounded into a mass of bloody pulp, which then evaporated under the blazing heat radiating from Bai Shihe.

However, in the next instant, a series of runes on the ground radiated with a golden light as the Dao art Li Yaofeng had set up earlier took effect.

The golden gate opened up behind him once again, and countless giant hands reached out from within. Some held Bai Shihe at bay, while the others enveloped Li Yaofeng in a protective cocoon before dragging him back into the Buddha Realm.

Bai Shihe roared in fury and frustration as he tore apart the giant hands before him one after another, but by the time he reached the golden gate, it had already closed.

He stared silently at the gate, seemingly waiting for something. Some time later, Li Yaofeng’s voice rang out from behind the gate.

”Knowledge will always attract, just as it has today. We will meet again, everyone.”
