Scripture of Days Past

Chu Qiguang was meditating in the Ba Manor Daoist Temple when his eyes suddenly sprang open. He rose and walked out of the room, then looked up at the sky.

Without warning, fierce gusts of wind began sweeping through the entire temple, carrying flames that resembled fireworks. From a distance, it looked as if a fiery tornado were approaching the Daoist temple.

Chu Qiguang had already learned about the abilities of the five scourges from Ning Chigong, so he immediately realized what was happening.

The Desire Demon is using his wind to strengthen the Rage Demon’s flames and burn down the temple. These bastards from the Tribulation Religion really are insane! I wonder how Zhang Fengyun is going to deal with this.

Chu Qiguang leaped onto a wall to get a better view. Before long, he spotted a flash of golden light in the distance as Zhang Fengyun activated all the talismans in her body.

Clearly, the two sides were already locked in battle.

Chu Qiguang nimbly vaulted over several walls in succession, drawing closer and closer to the battlefield. Zhang Fengyun quickly came into view, and she was fighting a portly man clad in a suit of crude stone armor.

That must be the Ignorance Demon. He can encase his entire body in stone to create an almost impenetrable defense, and his strength is nothing to scoff at, either.

While the Ignorance Demon kept Zhang Fengyun occupied, the fiery tornado created by the Rage Demon and the Desire Demon continued sweeping toward the temple.

It wasn’t long before several buildings caught fire. The three Dao Comprehension Seeds rushed onto the scene, having already taken Bloodbath Pills and Ginseng Ganoderma Pills.

Their skin had turned bright red from the effects of the Bloodbath Pills, and tendrils of white steam rose from their bodies as their qi and blood circulated rapidly through their veins.

All three of them were clad in heavy suits of armor, and they charged toward the battlefield with spears in their hands.

Chu Qiguang’s gaze lingered briefly on their heavy armor, which was a signature of the Hunter Hand Faction.

The Hunter Hand Faction had been created specifically to deal with demon beasts. The most powerful demon beasts possessed enormous bodies and tremendous strength, allowing them to send humans flying with barely any effort.

To contend with such demon beasts, members of the Hunter Hand Faction wore heavy armor and were skilled in wielding all kinds of large, heavy weapons.

Their armor weighed a tremendous amount, and as the three Dao Comprehension Seeds charged onto the battlefield, the ground trembled violently beneath their feet with every step, making them sound like a stampede of galloping horses.

At the sight of the three Dao Comprehension Seeds, the Ignorance Demon let loose a thunderous roar. Vast amounts of dirt and sand rose from the ground and enveloped his entire body, further bolstering his defenses.

However, even that wasn’t enough to withstand the barrage of spear thrusts unleashed by the three Dao Comprehension Seeds. The rocky fortress encasing the Ignorance Demon’s body crumbled layer by layer, forcing him to stumble backward.

Zhang Fengyun seized the opportunity to bypass the Ignorance Demon and rush toward the Rage Demon and the Desire Demon.

A cold sneer appeared on the Rage Demon’s face as she swung a slender arm through the air, causing jets of fire to erupt from her skin. At the same time, the Desire Demon opened his mouth and unleashed a fierce gust of wind. The wind and flames combined to form a blazing wall that surged toward Zhang Fengyun.

Right at that moment, numerous giant warriors appeared on the battlefield. Each stood over thirty feet tall, clad in golden armor and wielding a massive golden sword.

Recognition immediately flashed through Chu Qiguang’s eyes.

Those are divine generals!

He had once seen Chen Zhu use a talisman to summon divine generals during his battle against Li Changqing. On that occasion, however, Chen Zhu had only summoned three divine generals, whereas nine had descended upon this battlefield.

Furthermore, these divine generals were even more physically imposing than the ones Chen Zhu had summoned. They swung their massive swords at the Rage Demon and the Desire Demon with tremendous force.

It looks like Grand Abbot Fu Haotian has arrived, Chu Qiguang thought. Zhang Fengyun suspected that he had already arrived at the Ba Manor in secret, and it seems she was right.

All of a sudden, the Rage Demon’s arms turned bright red, releasing such intense heat that the surrounding air began to shimmer and warp. At the same time, the Desire Demon let loose a thunderous roar, and a blast of wind akin to a shockwave erupted from his mouth.

The violent wind and flames combined to form a series of fiery shockwaves that swept toward the nine divine generals, while the Rage Demon and the Desire Demon turned and fled. However, before they could get away, an authoritative voice rang out from above.

”You think you can just come and go as you please? This is a Daoist temple, not a toilet!”

Immediately afterward, an elderly man in a black Daoist robe stepped onto the scene, holding a lit talisman in his hand.

A jubilant look appeared on Zhang Fengyun’s face.

It’s Senior Uncle Fu Haotian! I knew he would show up when it mattered! What is that talisman in his hand? It looks like... a Palm Lightning Talisman?

A deafening boom rang out as a bolt of lightning shot out of Fu Haotian’s palm. Before the Rage Demon could react, it struck her in the face and sent her crashing to the ground.

Meanwhile, the nine divine generals had already surrounded the Desire Demon, trapping him with their giant swords.

The Ignorance Demon was still trying to escape, but Han Jueyong stopped him. Having taken a Bloodbath Pill, Han Jueyong was now channeling the fourth level of the Primordial High Zenith Qigong.

”This is it,” Han Jueyong declared coldly. ”From this day forth, the five scourges will cease to exist!”

Chu Qiguang had been observing the battle the entire time, and he thought to himself, The members of the Hunter Hand Faction certainly have plenty of tricks up their sleeves. So far, they’ve only taken Bloodbath Pills, so I’m sure they still have more to give. It also seems that the talismans possessed by the provincial grand abbots are far more powerful than those used by ordinary abbots.

It looks like talismans, pills, and equipment can significantly bridge the gap between the fifth state and the Dao Comprehension state. Even at my current level, I still can’t claim to be invincible below the Dao Comprehension state.

The situation was clearly dire for the three scourges, but the Desire Demon suddenly burst into laughter, a deranged look appearing on his face.

”If I’m going to die, then I’m taking all of you with me!”

It was unclear what he intended to do, but no one wanted to find out. Fu Haotian and Han Jueyong immediately lashed out in unison.

The nine divine generals swung their giant swords, dismembering the Desire Demon, while Han Jueyong hurled his saber like a javelin and pulverized the Desire Demon’s head.

Even so, the Desire Demon’s lower body remained standing and a mass of tentacles erupted from within. At the same time, a terrifying aura began emanating from the Desire Demon’s remains.

The Ignorance Demon immediately fell to his knees at the sight of this. The rocky fortress around his body quickly crumbled away as he kowtowed toward the Desire Demon.
