The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 92: Chapter 92: River God

Several women have disappeared from one place, whether by human hands or the River God, we must take a look regardless.

River Mouth Village is built along the riverbank, and because there is a mountain to the south, the river turns a corner here and flows towards faraway places. The villagers make their living by fishing, cutting wood, and hunting, very much a typical village.

As night deepens, Aunt Wang cries hoarsely, murmuring for her daughter to return home, as she reaches the village entrance of River Mouth Village.

At the entrance, a few families see Aunt Wang approaching again, and immediately someone exclaims: ”She’s here again, she’s here again, quickly stop her!”

An old man accompanied by his grandson comes out and says loudly: ”E’er, Liu’er has been taken by the River God as a bride. No matter how much you call, she can’t come back. You should return home! If you anger the River God, no one can bear the consequence!”

Then more people come out, and someone chimes in: ”Yes, originally only Liu’er had problems, but ever since Yue’er caused trouble here, the River God has been angry. Every time she comes, a girl disappears. Isn’t this sinful?”

From this tone, all the villagers believe it’s thanks to Aunt Wang calling her daughter that angered the River God, causing other girls to be taken.

Therefore, there’s considerable resentment towards Aunt Wang.

Aunt Wang is oblivious to it all, her hair disheveled, she staggeringly walks, shouting sharply: ”Liu’er, where have you hidden my Liu’er, give me back Liu’er... Liu’er, come back... Mother misses you. How can mother live without you!”

Someone curses under their breath: ”This lunatic, going to get how many people in trouble?”

A few people run over from afar, one of them, still at a distance, shouts sternly: ”Yue’er, we told you Liu’er never came to our village, but you refused to listen, causing the River God’s wrath. Do you intend for everyone in River Mouth Village to die for Liu’er?”

This was said loudly and sternly; this person is Aunt Wang’s brother.

Aunt Wang’s cry is so piercing, so penetrating, that even when she arrived at the village entrance, she alerted the villagers, and more people came out with torches and lanterns.

Someone says: ”Wang Dazhu, control your sister, if she continues to stir things up, can our village remain peaceful? The River God hasn’t punished us for several days, if she stirs things up again, who knows whose daughter will suffer!”

”Absolutely, this is too harmful. The county master invited a master to negotiate with the River God; the monks said that as long as Aunt Wang stops causing trouble, the River God won’t take anyone again. Now she’s causing trouble again, tie her up!”

”Yes, yes, tie her up.”

”I think we should drown her in the river and let the River God personally punish her!”

”Wang Dazhu, aren’t you moving? Are you going to protect your sister?”

”Wang Dazhu, understand this, your sister is married off, she’s like spilled water. If you protect her, we’ll deal with you too!”

”Tie her up and send her to the River God!”

...

The villagers are getting angrier, everyone accusing Aunt Wang. Aunt Wang is crazy, feels nothing, just cries out: ”Liu’er... Mother is here to take you home, come home with mother... Liu’er, where are you...”

Someone says: ”Get moving!”

Wang Dazhu separates the crowd, walks to Aunt Wang, his face showing some guilt, he says: ”Yue’er, don’t blame me, you’ve angered the River God terribly. Because of you, our village lost seven girls in the past two months. People’s hearts are flesh; Liu’er is human, other girls in our village are human too, we can’t let them become like Liu’er, can we? The master said, Liu’er was taken by the River God against her will. Since you miss Liu’er, you should go see her at the River God’s place!”

While saying this, villagers grab ropes and her arms and legs, ready to tie up Aunt Wang.

Aunt Wang struggles fiercely, her cries become even more mournful: ”Liu’er, where are you, come home with mother...”

Such mournful cries, as if a cuckoo were weeping blood.

Right as the chaos ensues, seeing Aunt Wang about to be tied up and drowned, a voice loudly calls: ”Stop!”

The villagers holding torches turn towards the voice and see two young men appearing at the village entrance.

These two youths are more attractive than actors on stage; even in the night, illuminated by torchlight, their extraordinary appearance is unaffected.

The one on the left, dressed in a moon-white robe, stands tall, every gesture carrying an aura of nobility.

The one on the right dressed in a sky-blue robe, slightly shorter, but equally fair and handsome.

The sudden appearance of these two people in the village is like two cranes among chickens.

The villagers are a bit dazed, their actions to tie people slow down.

After all, Aunt Wang is not from their village, and tying people up is private justice.

The old man first says: ”Where are you two from? What are you doing in our village?”

Huangfu Jingchen says deeply: ”You have such nerve! Even if Aunt Wang is crazy, you can’t deal with her as you please. This is private justice, taking lives recklessly!”

Xia Wenjin’s expression turns slightly stern, she takes out a badge from her sleeve, and says: ”We’re from the Government, sent to investigate the matter of the River God taking brides. Take me to see your village chief.”

She raises the badge, then puts it away, her expression proud, looking down her nose, with great demeanor.

Huangfu Jingchen looks at Xia Wenjin with some admiration; these villagers dare to use private justice casually, are single-mindedly believing that the River God took brides, thinking all faults are due to Aunt Wang causing trouble that would implicate the local girls, reasoning with them is futile.

At this point, a Government identity is more persuasive and deterrent.

Xia Wenjin, despite her young age, has perceived the key issue, in handling matters she eclipses him!

The old man hears and says with a smile: ”So it’s the noble lords, this old man is the village chief, please, sirs!”

He didn’t see the badge clearly, but seeing these two young people’s extraordinary demeanor, it’s clear they aren’t ordinary people, and he believed they were officers sent by the Government.

Upon hearing that officials from above have arrived, the villagers no longer dare to bind anyone, but they still eye Wang Dazhu. Wang Dazhu says reluctantly: ”Yue’er, you first come home with me, since officers are here, they’ll certainly find Liu’er for you.”

Perhaps Aunt Wang is tired from shouting, or these words soothe her, she appears dazed, allowing Wang Dazhu to pull her away.

Xia Wenjin says loudly: ”Wang Dazhu, if anything happens to Wang Yue’e before the investigation is clear, I will charge you with murder. Also, all of you listen carefully. Wang Yue’e is a key figure, if anything happens to her, not one of you in River Mouth Village can escape murder charges! With me, there’s no immunity for the crowd, everyone will be held accountable! Moreover, I love settling scores afterward! Understand?”
