The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Solemn Oath

The servant, hearing Xia Wanqing’s interrogative tone, finally couldn’t hold back and shouted, ”How dare you! How dare you be so disrespectful to my young master!”

His young master was so noble; it was already enough for this commoner to be called father-in-law, yet this commoner was still so rude. How could someone like his young master be treated with such disdain?

Huangfu Yuxuan’s expression darkened, and he sternly shouted, ”Silence! Is this a place for you to speak?”

The servant, seeing his cold stern face, was so frightened that he knelt down with a thud.

The fear and panic in the servant’s eyes were contemptible, yet also a bit shocking.

Isn’t the rule in this Young Master Yu’s family too strict? With such strict family rules, how could a marriage proceed without parental consent? That alone is dubious.

Seeing Xia Wanqing’s changed expression, Huangfu Yuxuan quickly said, ”Honored Father-in-law, the servant was rude, please do not take it to heart. I must explain this matter myself!”

He turned his head to Xia Sichen and said, ”Brother Sichen, there seems to be a misunderstanding. I have no intention of concealing anything. There are many brothers in my family, and I am not the eldest son, so I do not need to inherit the family estate. Therefore, in terms of marriage, my parents have no particular requirements for me; I make the decisions myself! If it weren’t for my parents’ prior approval, how could I take the liberty of deciding my own marriage?”

Huangfu Yuxuan smiled slightly, speaking eloquently with elegance and sincerity, appearing very convincing.

Xia Wanqing frowned, finding this explanation plausible.

In ordinary families, a son who doesn’t need to inherit the family estate often faces fewer marriage requirements. If Huangfu Yuxuan’s parents had previously stated that he could marry freely, acting on their own would not be considered contrary to parental commands.

More importantly, the words left by the white-haired elder years ago have been fulfilled in him.

The time prophesied by the elder for Xia Wenjin is already running short. ℴ

This is why Xia Wanqing is more inclined to believe him in their heart.

Xia Sichen felt very conflicted. When his father mentioned Wenjin’s situation that day, he truly hoped Wenjin would be fine, and he genuinely wished Wenjin could marry a kind and loving husband.

If Huangfu Yuxuan is indeed that person and sincerely wants to marry Wenjin, he would be happy to see it happen.

However, if Huangfu Yuxuan is unwilling, no matter how suitable he might be, a forced union is never sweet, and he wouldn’t approve.

But now, Huangfu Yuxuan seems willing, yet this willingness itself made him uneasy, not to mention Wenjin also wasn’t willing.

And now, knowing Huangfu Yuxuan took it upon himself without his parent’s consent.

He scrutinized Huangfu Yuxuan with a skeptical gaze, not believing his words.

Huangfu Yuxuan smiled lightly and said seriously, ”Brother Sichen, I understand your love for your sister and your fear that she might suffer if married to me. Although I’ve only met Miss Wenjin a few times, her genuine nature is what I admire most. As a man, I have the responsibilities that come with being a man! I will give the woman I wish to marry all the care and strive to make her happy. Since Miss Wenjin is not in the village now, presumably because we were strangers before and she doesn’t want a blind marriage, I am willing to wait until the moment we meet again. I believe Miss Wenjin will change her impression of me. Please give me some time, Brother Sichen, and I will prove it to you!”

His words were powerful, direct, reasonable, and sincerely compelling, even softening Xia Wanqing’s expression.

Xia Sichen couldn’t find any flaws in his face and eyes, but it didn’t mean he believed Huangfu Yuxuan. He laughed and said, ”You speak well enough, but I still think you must be hiding something from me. Hmm, let me think, you said you are twenty years old, the age of maturity, in most families, a man marries by eighteen. Could it be that your family has already arranged a marriage for you?”

Huangfu Yuxuan replied seriously, ”Why does Brother Sichen say this? I can swear to the heavens that I am not yet married. If there is even a slight falsehood, may I be struck by lightning! I sincerely wish to marry Miss Wenjin. If Brother Sichen doesn’t believe me, I can make a solemn vow!”

With such serious words, everyone believed him.

Xia Sichen said with a mischievous smile, ”No need to be so formal, that would be embarrassing. Why not make a solemn vow then!”

Everyone: ”...”

Huangfu Yuxuan was not bothered at all and indeed raised his hand to vow, ”I, Huangfu Yuxuan, sincerely ask to marry Miss Xia Wenjin. If this is false, let me die from being pierced by a thousand arrows!”

Huangfu Yuxuan wasn’t concerned, as he was indeed sincere. After all, Gongyang Puyu had said that Xia Wenjin’s fate was special, and their horoscopes matched, which was a great sign. Marrying Xia Wenjin would certainly lead to the success of his endeavors! Why marry a mere ornament that would be of no help at home instead?

Xia Wanqing smiled.

The sliver of doubt in his heart also dissipated with Huangfu Yuxuan’s solemn vow.

Even Xia Sichen had nothing more to say.

He glanced grudgingly at Huangfu Yuxuan.

Huangfu Yuxuan gave a slight nod in gesture and smiled, ”Brother Sichen loves his sister, so having some hostility towards me is normal. If I had a sister about to get married, I would also give the person who wants to marry her a good beating first. Brother Sichen has been very lenient with me!”

This joke made everyone in the hall laugh.

Isn’t it true?

When a mother-in-law looks at her son-in-law, the more she sees, the more satisfied she becomes, whereas with the father-in-law and brother-in-law, the more they look, the more they dislike him, isn’t it?

Seeing everyone laughing, Huangfu Yuxuan courteously bowed to Xia Wanqing and said, ”Rest assured, honored father-in-law. This time, my father is returning home, and I will inform him of this matter. Surely, upon knowing that I have someone I like, he will be very happy! By the time I return, I will surely gain Miss Wenjin’s approval!”

Xia Sichen curled his lips; Huangfu Yuxuan’s responses were perfectly reasonable and impeccable, yet he still found this kid annoying.

Could it be because his sister is to marry this person, and as a loving brother, he instinctively feels repelled?

Thinking of what his father said, and the prophecy concerning his sister’s life, Xia Sichen felt a mess inside.

Is this kid going home to never return? Or does he really have matters to attend to, planning to return after they’re settled?

If he doesn’t return, it means he was deceiving, and Wenjin won’t be deceived by him, which should be a relief. But what if he truly is the one, wouldn’t Wenjin be delayed, thus putting her life at risk?

If he returns, even though he has made a solemn vow, Xia Sichen still feels something is off.

He hates his powerlessness, for there are no prophets in the world, and the thoughts of others are unknowable; he’s extremely uneasy.

Huangfu Yuxuan bid farewell courteously to the people of Haotian Village and descended the mountain with his family member.

Xia Wanqing watched them go until they disappeared from view. Only after his brothers went about their own business did he turn and shouted at Xia Sichen, ”Rascal, aren’t you going to give an explanation?”
