The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Saving Face

Xia Wenjin’s mouth twitched, and she turned over and got off the couch.

The door opened, and as expected, Bai Feichen stood in front of it.

He was clearly by the window just before!

With such ghostly skills, Xia Wenjin was no longer surprised.

In the backyard, there were only people from Haotian Village, but in the middle of the courtyard, a young man dressed in ordinary clothes and shoes, hair tied with a wooden hairpin, stood like a sturdy bamboo. He looked extremely handsome with tightly furrowed brows, exuding a sense of stubborn pride.

Yuan Gang yelled, ”Which brat is cursing at our... master?”

Xia Wenjin had always dressed as a man, and Yuan Gang, though rough, was attentive enough to speak with ambiguity, not revealing her identity.

With Yuan Gang’s loud voice, people from Haotian Village came out of the rooms, even the shopkeepers outside were alarmed. However, when Haotian Village rented the place, they said, don’t mind whatever noise you hear. So while they were shocked, no one dared to come and ask what was happening.

Bai Feichen glanced at Xia Wenjin, who was poking her head out, and said with a wide smile, ”Xiao Jin, someone is cursing at you!”

”I can hear it, Uncle Bai!” Xia Wenjin said helplessly. Did he think that by lowering his voice she couldn’t hear the teasing in his words?

Huang Zheng was interesting indeed, being so persistent for a jade pendant; it seemed really important to him!

But it was also a puzzle she didn’t understand in her past life, and she couldn’t return it to him yet so as to unravel this mystery.

Bai Feichen said with great interest, ”Did you promise to marry his sister or something?”

Xia Wenjin rolled her eyes, feeling exasperated, said, ”I owe him silver!”

Bai Feichen’s eyes widened, ”How did you end up owing someone silver?” Although Haotian Village wasn’t excessively wealthy, it was certainly well-provided for, wasn’t it?

Xia Wenjin sulked, ”Uncle Bai, when I ran down the mountain, I didn’t bring anything with me. What was I supposed to eat or drink? It’s normal to owe someone some silver, isn’t it?”

”As long as it’s just silver you owe!” Bai Feichen stroked his beard with a laugh, ”Now you know life off the mountain is tough and tiring, huh? Come back with Uncle Bai, get married early, and you’ll have everything you want again, wouldn’t that be great?”

Xia Wenjin was resentful, she originally lived like that, why must she get married now to continue living like that?

They all favored that person, but she didn’t.

But she had told her father several times, and it was like a scholar encountering a soldier, logic didn’t work. Uncle Bai, though fond of her, sided with her father nonetheless. Who knows what kind of spell Huangfu Yuxuan cast on them?

Bai Feichen placated, ”How much silver do you owe that guy? Uncle Bai will pay it for you!”

Xia Wenjin slowly said, ”It’s not that much, just eight thousand and ten taels of silver!”

”That’s not much, eight... what? Eight thousand?” Bai Feichen initially didn’t take it seriously, but he was stunned as he processed the amount.

Xia Wenjin spread her hands, stuck out her tongue, making a funny face.

Bai Feichen scrutinized her, seeing her clever expression, suspiciously, ”Is this real?”

Xia Wenjin grinned, ”Uncle Bai, think about it, you brought so many people here, and he still dares to trouble me under such conditions, unless it’s a huge amount, why would he risk his life like this?”

Bai Feichen believed her, sighed, ”Our Xiao Jin surely knows how to spend, spending money so generously! This is in line with the style of our village!” Eating large chunks of meat and drinking from big bowls, spending money should also be extravagant!

Xia Wenjin beamed with joy, ”Uncle Bai, you flatter me, just doing alright!”

After praising, Bai Feichen awkwardly rubbed his chin, somewhat embarrassedly said, ”Um... Xiao Jin, eight thousand taels isn’t much, but Uncle Bai didn’t bring that much silver, look...”

Xia Wenjin smirked, ”Uncle Bai, even if you brought that much silver, it wouldn’t be any use.”

”Why not? Just pay off the debt and it would be resolved, wouldn’t it?”

Xia Wenjin said apologetically, ”I promised to repay in three days, and now the due date has passed!”

”Then what will happen?”

Xia Wenjin hesitantly said, ”I pledged that if not repaid in three days, I’d be a servant for a year. Actually, I wouldn’t have to be his servant, but Uncle Bai, you brought me from Wan’an County to here, I tried several times to raise the silver to repay the debt but you blocked me, so now the silver isn’t the issue!”

Bai Feichen was dumbfounded, ”No, Xiao Jin, you didn’t mention this earlier?”

Xia Wenjin hung her head regretfully, ”Uncle Bai, isn’t this something disgraceful? Wouldn’t I want to save face?”

Bai Feichen thought for a moment, Xiao Jin is known for wanting to save face, so this might indeed be possible!

While they were quietly discussing, Huangfu Jingchen shouted again, ”Xia Wenjin, will you keep your word or not?”

Xia Wenjin popped her head out, shouted, ”I will, I will!” Retracted her head, lowered her voice to Bai Feichen, ”Uncle Bai, isn’t it okay for Haotian Village members to occasionally not keep their word?”

Bai Feichen immediately shook his head, righteously, ”No, the people of Haotian Village are as good as their word!”

Xia Wenjin hastily suggested, ”Uncle Bai, I have a proposal!”

”What proposal?”

”Since we have more people, let’s quietly eliminate him. This way, I won’t need to be a servant.” Xia Wenjin said with a playful grin.

”No way!” Bai Feichen rejected it without thinking, earnestly explaining, ”Xiao Jin, that’s too despicable. If it were we who were owed the silver and he couldn’t repay, Uncle Bai would immediately deal with him, but it’s we who are at fault now! Doing that would be too despicable! Instead, let’s seize him and force him to break the agreement, then it wouldn’t be our fault!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

Is forcing someone to break a contract not despicable?

She was only teasing Bai Feichen, she wouldn’t stoop so low, and neither would Uncle Bai. She didn’t miss the shrewdness in Uncle Bai’s eyes, he was testing her!

Xia Wenjin looked more helpless, speaking more somberly, sighed, and said, ”Uncle Bai, what if he refuses to break the agreement, what should I do?”

The members of Haotian Village surrounded Huangfu Jingchen. Though they didn’t act, they stood strong like little mountains, scaring those with weak resolve.

Under the daunting gazes from the Haotian Village members, Huangfu Jingchen stood tall and straight, with no fear or timidity showing on his handsome face.

Impatiently he said, ”Xia Wenjin, since you want to honour your word, aren’t you going with me?”

”Why should our... young master go with you?” Ding Qi nearly slipped, quickly corrected himself with a nudge from Yuan Gang.
