The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 2042: The Overseer’s Pecarious Situation

Rex held Davina’s hand firmly, his fingers still intertwined with hers, and turned to look at Vadyn who was waiting by the portal. And then his gaze shifted to High Lord Rashal, the man who stood before the portal with a straight posture and an unreadable expression.

But there was something in his eyes—gladness, maybe.

It was vague, so Rex didn’t think much about it.

Once ready, the four of them stepped through the portal together.

Soon, their world twisted and folded before light devoured everything, and then it unfolded again into a familiar spacious hall. Rex had expected pettiness. Given High Lord Ursa’s nature, vindictive and also spiteful, he had assumed they would be deposited at the furthest edge of the pocket dimension—forced to walk the long, humiliating path to the centerpiece of the pocket dimension—High Lord Ursa’s abode.

A pompous and overblown structure.

It was the kind of petty power play High Lord Ursa would do.

Since the ruler of a pocket dimension dictated where the guests entered.

But they were not at the edge—they were in the hall itself. The place where the banquet was held and the Cluster Custodian’s arrival happened. Either the man had decided to forgo his usual games—or this Purgation Duel made him calmer knowing that he could dispatch High Lord Rashal once and for all.

It’s crowded like last time.

Rex swept the hall that was already, as expected, filled with witnesses.

High Lords from across the Primordial Meadow were mandated to watch the Purgation Duel.

All of them stood in clusters, their conversations a low murmur that died the moment High Lord Rashal arrived. Every head turned. Every eye fixed on them. There was surprise in their eyes—it was not from their presence, but it was the color that caught them off guard.

Pure white.

High Lord Rashal’s group was dressed in matching white.

It wasn’t High Lord Rashal’s usual color. He favoured other tones, but today, he wore white. And so did Rex, Davina, and Vadyn. It was a message that every High Lord understood. White was a pure color. A color that represents innocence. And more importantly, a color of a new slate.

Against High Lord Ursa’s pale blue, they would appear as the aggrieved, not the aggressors.

Naturally, this color was a statement. A visual argument.

Most of them kept their heads down at High Lord Ursa’s domination, but he will not.

Once he won, a new blank page would be opened, and he would be the one writing on it.

Seeing the unease that passed across several High Lords’ faces, it was working.

High Lord Leenim took the bold move to approach.

He was an older man, his face weathered by centuries of careful neutrality and wars, and he moved with the strong dignity of someone who was sick of the status quo and sided with High Lord Rashal. Behind him was his family—a wife, two sons, and a daughter.

Each trailed like his silent shadows.

He was the witness who sided with High Lord Rashal and formally kickstarted the Purgation Duel.

Seemed like he was already isolated, and now wanted a new friend.

”High Lord Rashal.” He stretched his hand for a handshake. ”I see that you are ready.”

”I am.” High Lord Rashal accepted the handshake.

”How are you feeling? You think you can take down High Lord Ursa?’

”Regretting your decision to help me? Naturally, I’m confident. I’ve never lost in a war, after all.”

”Regret is for the young, and I’m not anymore. I trust you’d do well, and wanted you to remember me.”

”Once this is over, we would be in a good relationship, High Lord Leenim. I won’t forget this.”

Just then, the doors at the far end of the hall swung open.

Finally, the rival group entered.

They moved as one—eight figures in matching pale blue uniforms with synchronized steps.

Each one bore a hard expression, and they radiated confidence. The kind of confidence that came from the thought of certain victory. And when their gazes fixed on High Lord Rashal’s group—they were not seeing enemies, but prey.

Almost instantly, the hall fell more silent and the air grew thick.

The Purgation Duel was about to begin, and everyone in the room could feel it.

”Both parties are here,” High Lord Leenim muttered. ”Now we wait for the Cluster Custodian.”

...

Sovereign Realm, Space Zero.

A figure with an uncanny white-mask face slowly knelt to the ground in reverence.

He took down the wide-brimmed hat he was wearing and placed it above his heart in deep respect.

”You summoned me, Supreme Lord?” the Cluster Custodian asked without looking up.

Across from him, the universe sat in silence.

It took the shape of a figure who didn’t and it also didn’t sit upon any surface. It simply existed—cross-legged, levitating above the ground as if nothing could ever restrict it. A white—translucent mantilla of divine craftsmanship draped from its head to its legs.

One look of its fabric alone showed that it was no ordinary mantilla.

And through the veil, a pale-blue skin was visible and ethereal, and within that skin churned something impossibly vast. A rift. A living tear in reality—that was contained within flesh, through which the vast emptiness between stars, galaxies, and the chaotic realms swirled in an endless, silent dance.

Around its forehead hung a ring.

It was composed of more than a dozen beads. Each one was large and luminous, and each one swirled with the slow, magnificent rotation of a galaxy. They moved independently from one another, condensed cosmos that orbited a being that had no face.

For beneath the mantilla, there was nothing. No eyes. No mouth. No nose.

Just the smooth, featureless shape of where a face should’ve been.

As if the entity had deemed such mortal details beneath its presence.

Even then, it was not blind. Four slit-shaped dimensional tears hovered around it—positioned at angles with the entity as their pivot. And within these tears were more rifts. Each one swirled with the familiar swirling and churning cosmos.

But there was something more in them.

Something that moved and watched. Eyeballs, perhaps. Or the suggestion of them.

Pupils of pure void that drifted through the rifts like fish through water, tracking everything and nothing all at once. They could see vast distances throughout the God Realm—and the countless layers of reality in between. They could see everything.

From its back, millions or perhaps billions of pale blue strings extended outward.

They stretched upward, connecting the entity to a swirling mass of energy that encompassed the entire Sovereign Realm that consists only the vacuum of space save for the sacred white and blue platform on which the entity resides.

No entity, no matter how powerful, could sustain such a vacuum within this Sovereign Realm.

And yet, as the architect and owner of this Sovereign Realm, the entity lived.

Only Gods could see the entity directly, but others who felt this power would know who it was.

It was the Overseer of Realms—the impassive entity who controls the connections between realms.

Sovereign realms, realms within the God Realm, lower realms, and any realms in existence.

And then, slowly—the Overseer’s attention shifted. The rifts turned. The void-pupils within them fixed on the kneeling Cluster Custodian below. The featureless face tilted downward, and the sheer weight of its gaze pressed like the gravity of a collapsing star.

”Cluster Custodian Gamma.”

A powerful voice reverberated through the air in a crawl. It travelled as fast as a normal sound would— however, there was an aftershock that followed right behind it that shook the air and forced submission into those who heard it.

”You have not asked for my directions and moved on your own. What is your reason?”

For a second, Cluster Custodian Gamma frowned.

Confusion swept across his face.

”Supreme Lord Overseer, I don’t believe I have met a problem that required your attention.”

”I can see your every move, and you still lie to me? I did not create you for this blunder.”

”... Are you referring to the Scions, Supreme Lord?”

Rumble—!

Instead of answering, the Overseer answered by shaking the entire Sovereign Realm. He merely grunted at Cluster Custodian Gamma’s slow response, but the impact was catastrophic enough to mistake this— as a sign of wrath.

”I am aware of the Scions’ standing—but I do not think any involvement with them would warrant your attention, Supreme Lord. I thought they were simply troublemakers with immense connections. Entities who are beneath you.”

”Then you thought wrong.”

”What...?”

Cluster Custodian Gamma couldn’t help but raised his gaze, eyes widening in shock.

He wasn’t expecting to hear this from the Overseer.

”Many of the Scions are weak. Far beneath me, but there are a handful who even I could not battle with ease. Some of them has come to meet me in the far past, and I could not see through them clearly. Have you heard the nickname the Unmaker of Gods?”

”I have heard it, Supreme Lord. He had killed more than two dozen Gods and three Ancient Gods.”

Of course, Cluster Custodian Gamma knew about the Unmaker of Gods.

Not only did this entity go on a killing spree across the God Realm, leaving chaos in his wake, but he was also the one the Overseer had discussed with Cluster Custodian Alpha. Cluster Custodian Gamma overheard this conversation and was aware that the Overseer was wary of the Unmaker of Gods.

Something about that entity was wrong as he has power that the Overseer couldn’t see through.

”Yes... He is a Scion, too,” the Overseer said. ”And he is not one of those handful Scions.”

”How is that possible?” Cluster Custodian Gamma shook his head. ”But Supreme Lord—I was careful in dealing with those two Scions. I didn’t provoke them, and even gave them what they wanted. I gave them face.”

”And that’s exactly why it’s wrong. Before you were even created, the strongest present Gods, including me gathered, and agreed on a decree. Any hostile forces that disturbed the balance of the God Realm are not welcomed.”

”...?!”

”The Scions of Vertex fell into that category, and now you hosted them. Do you understand the situation you put me in now?’

”I... I made a mistake.”

Hosting the Scions to duke it out within the scope of the Primordial Meadow breached that decree, and that meant the other strongest Gods would look at the Overseer of Realms with a raised brow. And they would want an explanation.

From their perspective, there would be two assumptions.

One was that the Overseer intentionally hosted the Scions of Vertex without their approval.

And the other would be that the Scions of Vertex had threatened him.

Naturally, the first one would put the Overseer in a lot of trouble by the other Gods, and the latter would make the strongest Gods turned their slow gazes—at the Scions of Vertex. And they would confront the Scions without a doubt.

Soon, the Scions would know the reason why, and that would place the Overseer in their crossfire.

It was a precarious situation to be in.

Of course, the simple fact that the Overseer had made a mistake would never cross their minds.

A Cluster Custodian is the representative of the Overseer of Realms, so this would be taken seriously.

”I will handle the situation swiftly, Supreme Lord.” Cluster Custodian Gamma bowed his head deeper. He had accepted this battle out of obligation to an old law, but it was clear now that the Overseer’s very difficult situation took precedence over the Purgation Duel Law. ”I will cancel the duel and find another way to settle their dispute.”

”No, you most certainly will not.” The Overseer commanded with a stern voice. ”If you cancel the battle the other Gods would still conduct their investigation—while also offending the Scions of Vertex more. Let the Purgation Duel continue, and we’ll handle the aftermath.”

”Yes, Supreme Lord.” Cluster Custodian Gamma bowed again and then excused himself.

Since the decision was to continue, he needed to leave and oversee the Purgation Duel.
