The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 2015: A Goddess Undone

”How would you like to take revenge on the children who betrayed you?”

Rex’s suggestion was direct—perhaps too direct.

But considering the situation right now, he didn’t have the time to idle around. He couldn’t stay for long, as the Great Pale Court was going to be shredded at any moment now. Empathy, understanding—Rex could offer none to her at this moment.

Not that he was planning to, even if he could.

”Revenge...?” Aylith let out a small sigh and turned away. ”If you can’t tell how I feel after my mistake, then you can’t offer me much. Leave my realm. Return to wherever you came from, Rex Silverstar. I’d like to spend my last moment peacefully and alone.”

Rex nodded his head.

He was making sure whether there was any anger inside Aylith, and this proved that there was none.

Despite what the Lunirich Gods did, she bore no hatred.

None at all.

Initially, Rex was planning to coax her into making a pact with him by using a common enemy—as an excuse. After all, anger and hatred are the natural things most entities referred to when they were used and betrayed by people closest to them.

Even Lilliana and Davina were not an exception to that, as shown by how they killed Duke Lorcan.

But since Aylith wasn’t like that, he needed to change his plan.

”You lost your heart. You lost a big portion of your power. And now, you’re losing your home. Yet you are not angry? You don’t want vengeance for what they did to you? All of them are greedily basking in your power, and that didn’t upset you?”

”I have always planned for them to wield the power of the full moon... No matter. You won’t understand even if I explained. I can see that you’re young from the way you talk. Once you have your own children, you will understand why I’m choosing this.”

”A mother’s love knows no bounds, they said.”

”No. A mother’s love knows its bounds well. She simply chooses to stretch them again and again.”

Rex frowned.

Not because he didn’t agree, but because this situation was worse than he thought.

She already accepted death... That’s a problem.

From the way Aylith talked—it was clear that she was waiting for death to come take her. She no longer had any will to live after being betrayed by her children. A cloud of great depression loomed overhead, and Rex needed to somehow get rid of it.

Fortunately, he knew exactly how.

Even though he was quite sure that Aylith would hate her children, he wasn’t so short-sighted as to not anticipate otherwise. Every waking second while he was in the God Realm was spent thinking of every single possibility.

Unexpected variables that might happen.

Rex considered all.

Ever since he learned—that the Lunirich Gods were the offspring of the Goddess of the Greater Moon from the Warden, he had anticipated that she wouldn’t want to pursue harm for her children. Despite everything that she suffered, they were still her children.

So, Rex knew exactly what to do as he already envisioned it.

Instead of leaving, he began to circle the platform with slow and steady steps.

His footsteps echoed against the deafening silence.

And he spoke once he felt Aylith’s confused eyes were fixed on him.

”I came here with the intention of making a pact with you, thinking that we had a common enemy. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, or something like that. And I was quite confident that you’d be glad to be absorbed into my side, but it seemed I was wrong.”

”I’ll never do that. You’re thinking too highly of me. I’m not that strong to go against my own blood.”

”Do you love them?”

”Yes, I do.”

Rex stopped and turned towards Aylith—his gaze was blank, impossible to read.

Like he was an enigma that exists not to be known or understood.

”How much do you love them?”

”I love them more than my Godhood.”

”If that’s the case, aren’t you supposed to be a little worried here?”

”Hm?”

”I mean—” Rex cackled and then placed both hands against his chest like he was presenting himself to Aylith. ”Did you not hear what I said? A stranger, me, came waltzing into your crumbling realm in order to invite you to take vengeance on your wretched children. Doesn’t that make what I want obvious?”

Just then, Aylith paused, and her body visibly stiffened.

Perhaps it was the depression clogging her ears—and clouding her mind—but she only now realized Rex wanted to bring harm to her children. He wanted to make a pact with her simply because he thought she would also be eager to participate.

Had he known that she wouldn’t, then he might not have come here at all.

He only came in order to make the process easier.

”You—?”

”Yes, I have a problem with your children,” Rex smirked devilishly and continued to circle the pale platform like he was strolling in a garden, soaking in its view and scent to refresh his mind. ”You see—Your children dared to touch what’s mine, and I do not take that kind of thing lightly. So, I will accept nothing but their deaths.

”I’ve struck a blow several times, hence why you even mistook me for one of your children.”

”What...?” Aylith blinked her eyes and shook her head. ”Don’t do that. There must be a better way.”

”A better way? Perhaps there is. But you said it yourself—I’m young, and I’d do whatever I want.”

”You can be wiser now by learning to forgive.”

”They almost killed my family, the people I love, and you want me to forgive them? I don’t think so.”

Rex stopped and then raised his index finger, counting.

”First, I’m going to most certainly kill your naughty but loving Kaiser.” He noticed the clear shock on Aylith’s face, and pretended to misunderstand. ”No—Not a quick death, of course; I wouldn’t give that mercy to him. I’m going to kill him slowly. Torture him. Make him beg for death before I even think of giving it.

”And then, there are two that I am still undecided. But I think I’m going after Meloriana next. I was not really sure what her role was among the Lunirich Gods—but I’m guessing she’s the one who supported the others, so she needs to die next.”

”How dare you?!” Aylith’s voice was shaking—from the anger rising inside her chest. ”You dare speak of killing them in front of me?”

Her eyes shimmered with bad intentions, but it didn’t scare Rex at all.

”Oh?” Rex looked at Aylith in her eyes through the blindfold, and then tilted his head a little. One brow was raised tauntingly—as if he was daring her to do something. ”What are you going to do? What can a walking corpse even do to me?”

Swoosh—!

Aylith reached out her hand as if she was trying to grab Rex’s head through the distance.

A glinting silver hue flowed from her shoulder down to her hand, seemingly activating her power.

But Rex didn’t move.

Instead, he spread his arms to the side, waiting for Aylith to do something.

Just as the silvery light gathered brightly on the palm of her hand—it tried to form something but failed. It dispersed into nothing, and the air returned to normal again. She retracted her reach and looked down at her palm.

Her brows furrowed into a hard frown, and frustration crept to her face.

All of her divine sources were gone at this point.

And since she couldn’t pay the divinity points required to keep the Great Pale Court within the domain of the God Realm, that meant her reserves were utterly depleted. A God’s power was solely dictated by their divinity points, and with none left, she was no more powerful than a mere Demigod.

Even though she was a Goddess, she was helpless.

Didn’t even have the power to break Rex inside her own Sovereign Realm.

”Nothing? In that case, where was I?” Rex asked with a condescending chuckle, dropped his arms, and then continued on his walk again, ignoring the Goddess of the Greater Moon. ”Oh, right, Meloriana. I was thinking of doing the same thing to her as I would to Kaiser, but it’ll be boring. Instead—I’ll target her mind instead.

”I’ll come to her realm and ravage every single living being that worshipped her as a Goddess.”

”You will not!” Aylith roared in anger. ”I am commanding you to never do that!’

”Command me?” Rex laughed. ”I bow to no one. Even if it was you before their betrayal, you won’t be able to command me, much less right now.”

Reason snapped from Aylith’s mind.

Driven by her love for her children, wanting nothing more than the best for them despite what they did, she leapt down from the crescent moon artifact and then charged straight at Rex. She balled her fist and threw it toward Rex.

At the same time, Rex transformed into his werewolf form.

Fueled by the anger that was raging inside, his body swelled to the point of matching Aylith’s height.

Aylith punched Rex in the face, but it did nothing.

Her fist landed squarely against Rex’s jaw, but it didn’t move him at all.

Surprised by the sight, she bit her lower lip and threw more punches.

Realizing her attacks weren’t working, she shifted her target and began pounding on Rex’s chest with everything she had. But he didn’t move. He didn’t flinch. Every desperate strike only hurt her more, her fists meeting something far harder than flesh.

Once again, Aylith threw a punch at Rex’s face, but he caught it before it could land.

Rex’s crimson eyes peered into her blindfold, and then he pushed her gently.

Like a weak damsel, she stumbled back and fell to the moonlit platform hard with a meek yelp.

”Don’t hurt them!” Aylith exclaimed—but she was still powerless on the floor. Unable to prevent Rex from doing anything. ”No matter what they did, no matter what their mistakes were, you must not hurt them. Don’t do it.”

Even though she was catastrophically weakened, she could tell that Rex wasn’t a God.

Killing the Lunirich Gods should be impossible for him to do.

But the fact that Rex wielded their powers, was capable of entering the Great Pale Court, and also contained a scent that was familiar made her fervently believe that he was a dangerous foe. Not a man who was worth making an enemy of.

Aylith might have lost her power, but her experience was still there.

Ascending to Godhood is not easy, and she had gone through many impossible things to achieve it.

Because of that, she could tell that Rex wasn’t someone simple.

Had this been back when she still dreamed of becoming a Goddess, she would have befriended Rex—or kept her distance. Men like him did not leave survivors in their wake. She had seen it too many times to pretend otherwise.

There are people out there who are destined for more.

Going against those people would only be shooting her own foot, barring her way to become a Goddess.

In this case, she knew that her children shouldn’t be playing with him.

Unlike her—or any God who ascended through the proper path—the Lunirich Gods simply seized a deity’s power and made it their own. Their rise was meteoric, but stolen divinity came with a cost: they lacked the sharp judgment and instinct that true Gods spent ages honing.

”Tell me what you want.”

”You know what I want, and you made it clear that you can’t be aligned with it.”

”You must’ve wanted something else.” Aylith looked up at Rex. ”If you hadn’t, then you wouldn’t waste time instigating me. So, tell me what you want. Tell me the alternatives.”

”Smart.” Rex approached and then raised her face by her chin with his hand. ”Bond with me, and I will give you a chance to convince the Lunirich Gods to surrender. If they still refuse, then you should not have a problem with me killing them.”

Aylith hesitated.

But Rex could already tell the answer before she said it out loud.

A smirk crept to his face.

And now a Goddess bent to my will.
