Alchemy Master

Chapter 1140, Accepting the Promise

Translator: Silavin

In truth, the position of the Human Race upon the continent was something extraordinarily delicate.

That delicacy was of a kind that left virtually every Race scrambling to keep their distance.

Once they agreed to Qin Yichen’s request, they would be entangling themselves with the Human Race.

If the promise were honoured and the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race’s Ancestor made his appearance, it would certainly not end with a few simple words alone, with everyone going their separate ways unscathed.

However, Qin Yichen’s intentions toward the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race were not those of someone scheming against them. Far more than that, it was a feeling of kinship, of recognising in another a reflection of oneself, that had driven him to act as he did.

Had he not offered the Elf Fruit, the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race would have suffered a devastating blow, falling from their lofty standing as a Top Tier Race to being hunted down, and eventually vanishing from existence altogether.

And the single promise he was asking for, on the contrary, offered the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race a window of respite. Of course, the premise was that the Human Race had to survive their own tribulation first.

And as Qin Yichen had expected, after roughly half an hour’s time, Qing Luan came rushing back in from outside.

“Brother Qin!”

Qing Luan had not yet stepped through the door when his voice, barely suppressed, rang out ahead of him. Moments later, he was seen striding in with rapid steps, his face alight with an excitement he could scarcely contain.

“Brother Qing Luan.” Seeing how Qing Luan was acting, Qin Yichen gave a light smile.

“The Ancestor has said that so long as your Pill has the effects you claim, he agrees to the promise!”

Even Qing Luan himself could not quite keep his composure in this moment, his excitement getting the better of him.

The Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race’s generational gap was, among the Top Tier Races, hardly a secret at this point. Throughout this period, countless covetous gazes had been trained upon their Race without respite, and the entirety of the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race lived perpetually beneath an atmosphere of suppressed dread.

In truth, it was not that the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race lacked outstanding prodigies. On the contrary, their people were gifted to an exceptional degree. It was simply that the gulf between where they stood and the level of a Supreme Expert was far, far too vast to bridge easily.

Yet as a core member of the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race, Qing Luan also knew that there were in fact several among them who had every prospect of breaking through to that level within a century.

It was only that this century of time was something the original Qing Xuan had already struggled to hold on long enough to see through.

And now, Qin Yichen had produced Elf Fruits, which they had never managed to obtain no matter how hard they had tried. That, above all else, was what they cared about most.

Though they did not know what lay behind Qin Yichen, the thought that he might be a member of the Human Race had simply never crossed their minds.

After all, with every Race arrayed against them, who would believe that a member of the Human Race would dare swagger about so openly and brazenly in the Myriad Beasts City?

Furthermore, this promise was merely an appearance, not a compulsion to take action. That much, they could accept.

So long as the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race produced another Supreme Expert, they would be able to secure another ten thousand years of peace.

“Brother Qin, this token contains a trace of the Ancestor’s Divine Sense. So long as you activate the seal on this token, the Ancestor will naturally be able to sense your location and will surely come to your aid.”

Having said so, Qing Luan reached into his chest and drew out a jade-green token, presenting it to Qin Yichen with a solemn expression.

Upon this token was carved the lifelike image of a green marten. The marten reared its head toward the sky and let out a mighty roar, its bearing as though it would swallow the very Heavens whole.

[His standing within the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race is not low.] Gazing at the token, Qin Yichen’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly.

It seemed this token had been left by the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race’s Ancestor specifically for Qing Luan, and now, in order to trade it for the Elf Fruits, Qing Luan had handed it over to him.

A person who commanded such personal regard from the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race’s Ancestor, his standing within the Race was probably comparable to Qin Yichen’s own standing within the Human Race.

“Brother Qing Luan, until we meet again.” Qin Yichen laughed heartily and handed the two Elf Fruits over to Qing Luan.

…

Time slipped gradually by beneath the expectant gazes of countless onlookers.

During this period, Myriad Beasts City grew livelier by the day.

News of a Supreme Expert seeking a Disciple had drawn an endless stream of brilliant young prodigies, and with their arrival came untold numbers of others who had travelled vast distances simply to catch a glimpse of their splendour.

And among all of this, there was one particularly crucial factor.

The appearance of a universal Pill for every Race.

This news spread with astonishing speed, as though it had grown ears of its own. In little more than half a month, every Race with even a modicum of access to information had come to learn of it.

At first, everyone greeted the news with scepticism.

However, upon learning that the one who had proposed this universal Pill was none other than the very fellow who had defeated the Medicine Race’s greatest prodigy even in an Alchemy Duel, countless people could not help but feel a jolt in their chests.

The Medicine Race was, by its very nature, the greatest authority within the World of Alchemy.

Their prodigy was a rising star of the continent, and in the shadows, an untold number of powerful Forces had already been quietly preparing to bring him into the fold at any moment.

And yet he had lost an Alchemy Duel. This left countless people thunderstruck.

At the same time, the Heaven Devouring Green Marten Race had also lent their voice in endorsement. As a Top Tier Race expressing their support, this only further confirmed the credibility of the news.

For a time, countless Races that had previously harboured no expectations whatsoever regarding the Supreme Expert’s Disciple search now dispatched their people toward the Myriad Beasts City, and all for the sole purpose of obtaining that legendary universal Pill, said to be effective for every Race and possessed of multiple benefits.

During this same half-month period, Mei Ler had also given full rein to her remarkable gift for commerce.

In barely half a month’s time, with the assistance of Li Shan, Xiang Linzi, and the others, a considerable number of shops within the Medicine Market had been acquired under their control.

Moreover, during this same span of time, Mei Ler had reached out to numerous members of the Charming Fox Race, and a business alliance destined to one day shake the entire continent of Myriad Races was gradually taking shape.

Only, during this period, the one who suffered the most was Qin Yichen, who from the outside appeared every bit the idle hands-off proprietor.

Li Shan and the others had not laid eyes on him even once since he had parted ways with Qing Luan.

Only Mei Ler knew that he had not been slacking in the slightest. He had been refining Pills day and night without rest.

This was fortunate, as Qin Yichen had prepared no shortage of Withered Frost Grass, and other lower-grade materials could be purchased cheaply enough within Myriad Beasts City.

Although the number of Pills sold each day was capped at a figure that appeared, on the surface, to be not particularly large, even the most basic of Compound Pills required Qin Yichen to work at full stretch. He needed to labour away for the better part of a day, before that figure could be met.

Amid this relentless busyness, Qin Yichen could not help but recall the leisurely days back among the Human Race, when he had handed everything off to Ye Liangchen, Shu Ruyan, and the others, with hardly any need to toil himself away.

The Pill Formula for the Compound Pill had also been managed in an orderly fashion under their care, and even if it leaked, it would remain within the Human Race. There was simply no need to worry about that.

But here, Qin Yichen did not dare carelessly hand the Pill Formula to anyone.

Were it to be disclosed, it could very easily upset the careful balance he had been maintaining, allowing certain Races to grow enormously in strength. And that, for the Human Race, would be horrendous news.
