Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 1200: Chapter 1200: Each on Their Own

Tan Shaoting and Su Yuanyuan were just sitting on the side drinking tea, as this had nothing to do with them.

Xu Guozhi was truly worried; the situation over there was not optimistic, but it was under control. Now he could think about other things.

Chengzi also started working, and Su Yuanyuan just reminded him to be punctual for work.

That noon, Daqing came by to deliver a letter, and after Su Yuanyuan read it, she frowned.

An Lixia also died? Human life is just so fragile.

The letter was full of complaints about her father, and the good days were turned into such a state by him.

Actually, as an outsider looking in, Zhao Tian didn’t really do anything wrong. How he wants to live is his own business. But why is the Zhao Family so chaotic? Could it really be that they can share hardships but not prosperity?

”What’s wrong?”

Su Yuanyuan handed the letter to him, ”Take a look.”

After Tan Shaoting read it, he said, ”When people age, passing away is very normal.”

”I just feel emotional, why are people like this, they can share hardships but not prosperity.”

”It’s all personal issues.”

Su Yuanyuan wrote a reply to Zhao Yanli, offering some comfort; so many years without seeing each other had made them feel much more distant.

This was an unavoidable situation. Being too far apart meant there was hardly any chance for meetings.

Even if the Zhao Family returns, the two sisters probably wouldn’t go back. After all, their home, their husbands and children are there; now that place is their home.

Since Zhao Yanli returned, she hadn’t felt well at heart, genuinely feeling troubled. Despite complaining about her father, she still missed him, as he is already of that age.

The children were also attending school, and she would visit them frequently. She was actually worried the children might have opinions.

Second Brother brought Zhixue corn, while the other two families mostly supplied the children with white flour.

Seeing the children were doing fine, she felt relieved. But how did Second Brother become like this? Is it really alright to be so calculating with siblings?

In the farm, Zhao Qingjie’s house remained quiet every day.

Since Zhao Tian was refused by his eldest daughter-in-law that day, he lay in bed, with meals brought in by his son.

He felt very down, certain regret overwhelmed him. Now he was essentially alone, feeling life was too dull without even someone to talk to.

Zhao Qingxiang and his wife hadn’t spoken because of this matter, even till now.

Sun Yun was not the same Sun Yun as before. After seeing through Zhao Qingxiang, her disappointment was immense, so the couple was silently warring.

Zhao Qingxiang felt very uneasy, but seeing Sun Yun’s expressionless face stopped him from speaking.

Now, with nothing much to do, Sun Yun was at home making clothes and shoes, while Zhao Qingxiang would spend time with his father.

The father and son would converse about the past, and Zhao Tian now wished to return. But given his age and the children being here, it was not practical.

”Eldest son, do you want to go back?”

Zhao Qingxiang was taken aback. He had never considered this, having lived here for over ten years; going back didn’t seem meaningful anymore.

So he shook his head honestly, ”I’ve adapted to here, and I’ll stay here for life.”

”But fallen leaves still have to return to their roots, your mom has already gone, buried here, so I’m thinking we should bring her home together.”

Zhao Qingxiang frowned, ”Dad, what do we have to return to? Here we can earn more money.” As long as you’re willing and hardworking, money is assured.

The three daughters at home want to go to college, and will definitely need a lot of money in the future.

”Moreover, we can’t leave easily; others wouldn’t agree either.”

”Find Su Yuanyuan, she can definitely handle this.” Zhao Tian had decided long ago.

Zhao Qingxiang shook his head, ”Dad, asking Yuanyuan won’t work. Besides, I don’t want to go back; my mom is buried here, so let’s just treat here as home.”

Zhao Tian was unwilling, but hearing his eldest son’s intention was clear, he didn’t wish to leave.

”Why wouldn’t asking Su Yuanyuan work? Let her arrange a job for you over there; it’s better than here.”

Zhao Qingxiang shook his head, ”Dad, I’m not going back.”

Listening to his son’s words, Zhao Tian felt sullen, especially when the second son brought meals at noon.

”Second son, have you thought about going back?”

Zhao Qingie was also taken aback. ”Going back?”

”Yes, we’ve been here for so many years. Still, go back; nowhere is better than home.”

Zhao Qingie nodded, ”Of course I want to go back. But we can’t earn money back there, Zhixue and the others need to go to school; it’s better to stay here.”

”You could ask Su Yuanyuan to find you a formal job; she already found one for Chunsheng.”

Zhao Qingjie had thought about it. But he knew that asking might not work, and if refused, what could he do?

”Dad, she won’t help. Jobs are hard to find; we should just stay here.”

Zhao Tian found himself unable to convince them, feeling even more upset inside.

Thus, he became even more deflated. After the second month, they began tidying the fields.

That day Sun Yun arrived, ”Qingjie, Xuemei, let’s divide that plot for planting crops this year, let’s not share it.”

Zhao Qingjie was not satisfied with this sister-in-law, so he just nodded. ”Sure, how should the division be? Half for each family?”

”Give you five more acres because father-in-law is here.”

Neither Zhao Qingjie nor his wife said anything, and hurried to eat.

Just then, Zhao Qingxiang came over and seeing Sun Yun being there, he was puzzled.

Sun Yun didn’t pay him any attention, and the couple acted as strangers.

After Zhao Qingjie and his wife finished eating, ”Brother, let’s go.”

”Where to?”

”Just now my sister-in-law said she wanted to divide the land for planting grain; give us five more acres.”

Zhao Qingxiang paused, anger rising immediately.

But looking at Sun Yun just staring at him, his temper suddenly disappeared.

”No division.”

Sun Yun sneered slightly, ”If not divided, I’ll leave.”

She turned around to leave.

Zhao Qingxiang grabbed her, ”What are you doing?”

”I’m not making a scene, but today things are getting clear; everything will be crystal clear from now on. Before, I agreed willingly, now I don’t, if today isn’t divided, I’ll go back; I told you back at my home, I, Sun Yun can live without you, don’t think you’re indispensable.”

All three families’ land was planted with herbs; the grain land was the reclaimed land.

Zhao Qingxiang appeared very embarrassed by the confrontation. Sun Yun was not like before, but he hadn’t done anything wrong.

He simply didn’t believe he was wrong.

Sun Yun shook off Zhao Qingxiang’s hand, turned to the second brother and his wife, ”Going or not?”

Zhao Qingjie nodded, ”Let’s go; doing it now saves us worry, and spring sowing is soon.”

With this, Zhao Qingxiang also fell silent, his wife was too forceful. For already a month, neither had spoken, and today she addressed him.
