Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 1053: Chapter 1053: Letting Go

Su Yuanyuan was just thinking about Hu Chunhua, who was lying on the kang, unable to get up.

She was angry, angry at Zhou Minli’s parents.

Yang Minggang was cooking, trying to comfort her. ”Don’t be mad. It’s not worth it. Who are they? They have nothing to do with us. Now that our eldest is a stranger to them.”

”I’m angry about how I agreed back then. I feel like I harmed Zhiqiang. It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t agreed to Zhou Minli, this wouldn’t have happened.”

”What does this have to do with you? Who would have known their Zhou Family was like that? We did investigate, but found nothing.

Enough, Chunhua, don’t take it to heart. Zhiqiang’s doing quite well in the county these days.

We’ll do what we can. From now on, it’ll just be the two of us.”

Hu Chunhua sighed on the kang. Others envied her children’s jobs, but only she knew it wasn’t all good.

The job found for her daughter was something everyone envied, and their family even fought over it.

Even so, no one dared to snatch the young woman’s job, because of the maternal family, with two brothers with formal jobs.

Actually, she didn’t know if it was a good or bad thing. Now, she just hoped her daughter would hurry up and set up her own home.

The same went for the eldest, who seldom returned since entering the county town.

Even when they did return, they just bought some snacks and left in a hurry.

As for Chunsheng, it was even more so. When the daughter-in-law had the second grandson, they didn’t let her come to take care of the postpartum period. She hadn’t seen the second grandson yet.

Why is there not a single thing going smoothly? How come at this age, life has turned into this?

Yang Minggang was also helpless. It’s understandable the children didn’t want to farm at home. People move up, water flows down.

But despite having enviable jobs, life wasn’t going smoothly.

Outsiders thought everything was perfect, but only they knew the truth. He had always wondered if it was because their family wasn’t meant to have such fortune, so they couldn’t handle it?

He didn’t dare speak of this to his wife. The past couple of years, because of the eldest’s situation, she often got angry, and her health wasn’t what it used to be.

”Minggang, do you think if they all stayed home farming, there wouldn’t be so much unhappiness?”

”What are you thinking? Isn’t this what we as parents wished for the children? Stop overthinking it. We’re at this age, we should be taking a break. Let the kids handle their own problems, we can’t control everything, and even if we could, they might not listen.

Chunhua, I know you’re strong-minded, but do you realize how many people envy us?

You’re always like this, but have you thought about what I would do if something happens to you?

You’re always worried and angry for them, but I’m at this age too, how many more days do I have left?”

At this, Hu Chunhua fell silent. She suddenly felt she was being too sentimental. Yes, the children were born by her, and now they’ve all set up their families, they have children. What is there left for her to worry about?

She needed her spouse by her side, counting on others was unrealistic. They had to lean on each other and get through the rest of their lives together.

”Minggang, I was wrong. I’ll stop worrying about them. Let them do as they please.”

Yang Minggang was relieved to hear his wife’s words. She had seen the light. That’s good. Otherwise, he feared losing his wife to the stress. Who would he rely on if he became immobile?

They had come to terms with it, but Yang Zhiqiang and Yang Xue’s days were really not going well.

Zhou Minli had already found where Yang Zhiqiang lived and wouldn’t budge.

He and his son had no way out.

They didn’t even know what to say to her anymore. Zhou Minli wasn’t looking to come back, she wanted the money she had taken last time.

Now Yang Zhiqiang didn’t have that much money. The house had been bought, and although he’d earned some over the year, he and his son had expenses too.

Besides, why should he have to give up that money? The money was his to begin with.

He was very curious, almost a year had passed, Zhou Minli even married a new husband. Why was she thinking of asking back for that money now? She had already signed the papers that night. Wanting to go back on it was wrong too.

But now it was impossible to reason with Zhou Minli. She just wouldn’t listen, she only wanted the money.

There was really no other way; with things like this, life was unbearable, so he went to the police station.

When Zhou Minli saw the police, she ran away, only to come back once they left.

The father and son were exhausted, they couldn’t keep up with her.

So that day, they didn’t go home. Instead, they returned to the village.

They arrived just as Hu Chunhua was cooking.

”Grandma.”

Even though she was upset, this was her son and grandson. She quickly added more rice to make sure they were fed.

And also, late at night, she made pancakes for them, knowing the father and son wouldn’t have the time to make such labor-intensive food. She mainly wanted to improve their meal.

Yang Zhiqiang sat beside the stove fire, watching his mom cook, thinking, no matter what, it was always his mother he could depend on. No one else could match up.

He told her about the matter with Zhou Minli. ”Mom, do you know what’s going on?”

Hu Chunhua frowned, ”I don’t know either. Yesterday, Zhou Minli’s parents caused a scene too, wanting me to give them money, saying their precious daughter married into our family and gave you a son, yet you’re driving her away.

Their family wasn’t the type to cling on shamelessly, they said, but it wasn’t fair to have given herself for nothing. They just want money.”

Yang Zhiqiang frowned, ”What’s this all about?”

”You two should stay over for a few days, I’ll find someone to ask around about what’s going on. There’s no smoke without fire, we’ll find some clues.”

”It must be that their family is short of money, that’s why they’re acting like this. Zhou Minli is quite oblivious, claiming the money she wants is Shubao’s in the future. By taking the money now, she’s taking Shubao’s money.”

Hu Chunhua sighed, her son was quite naive, they’d already parted ways, why was he still thinking about this? Money was good, of course people wanted it.

But she didn’t say this to her son; at this age, what could she say that would make a difference?

That night, the old couple watched their son and grandson wolf down their food, but felt no joy.

”Zhiqiang, if you find someone suitable, marry again. The way you two are living isn’t feasible.

But remember, when you pick, ensure that your job will belong to Shubao, and the house in the county is his too.”
