Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 944: Chapter 944: Waiting

Qi Hong sincerely didn’t want to, but he knew his father was right.

”Dad, how about I cultivate one? I can’t bear to give them the big ones.”

Tan Shaoting nodded, ”Alright, as long as you’re willing.”

Tan Shaoting broke off a branch of the Vermilion Fruit Tree from his own space and handed it to Qi Hong.

”Go now, without fruit it doesn’t look like a Vermilion Fruit Tree. Just plant it in the yard.”

Qi Hong nodded. ”Dad, I’ll give it a bit of Spiritual Spring Water, so it grows well.”

Tan Shaoting had no objections, letting the kids decide for themselves. Although they were young, they weren’t kids who couldn’t distinguish right from wrong.

The three kids gathered together, and after Qi Hong planted the Vermilion Fruit Tree Branch, he poured two drops of Spiritual Spring Water, immediately channeling Spiritual Power into the branch.

Indeed, the branch visibly spread and grew a little larger, which excited Qi Wen, and she watered the Vermilion Fruit Tree a bit more.

”Big brother, you can’t do anything, you better not get close to the Vermilion Fruit Tree,” Qi Wen said and burst into laughter.

Qi Yan also nodded. ”Yeah, better not have you near it, it still has a chance to live.” Having a domineering Spirit Root isn’t always a good thing.

Qi Wen turned to Tan Shaoting, ”Dad, do we still need to involve ourselves with others’ karma?”

”Others don’t have such strong karma, it’s alright.”

The three kids thought about it, too. Since arriving here, their dad had taught them to be cautious and not get too close to others to avoid getting tangled in karma. They obediently stayed away from forming any karmic ties.

”Dad, does the Peak Master have karma with big brother? Even though he didn’t formally take him as a disciple, big brother was probably under his protection, right?”

Tan Shaoting was taken aback by his daughter’s words. It was true, he hadn’t given it much thought.

”Leave ten Vermilion Fruits for Sword One Peak’s Peak Master. Perhaps also leave those six stones and that message for the Peak Master at Sword One Peak.

He’s someone with responsibility and integrity.”

The three kids had no objections, this was fine too. Qi Yan prepared ten Vermilion Fruits and placed them in a Jade Box.

”Dad, how should we give it to Master Ye?”

”I don’t know either, let’s wait for the right opportunity. Anyway, we’re prepared, I feel there’s some reason behind this. They may have only told part of the story, not the whole truth.

So let’s just wait, a significant figure will surely come by.

The battle with the Demon Realm is nearing its end, I think the most likely person to come would be Master Ye from Sword One Peak.

If not, no matter which master comes, let’s entrust them to hand it over, although that may lead to mistakes.”

”Then let’s pray for Master Ye to come over.”

Now they weren’t worried about not being able to go back. Because there’s a great deity here.

With everything decided, Qi Wen and her brother Qi Hong were tasked with taking care of the Vermilion Fruit Tree. They were willing, after all, they had spent a year working on Spirit Plant cultivation in the Shushan Sect.

While they were busy, the Second Farm was even busier.

It was indeed the busy season for the autumn harvest, and Zhao Qingxiang and his wife were so busy they barely had time to eat.

This is when Sun Yun realized the value of their two daughters. She didn’t think much of it before, but this year made her realize how important daughters are.

She was left to feed the poultry and livestock and clean up the manure. The cooking and the laundry were all left to her alone.

She used to think they were just eating else’s food, just useless expenses. But once she started busy from the moment she opened her eyes, she understood it was truly exhausting and difficult.

At first, she had caused a fuss, wanting the three daughters to come back, but it ended with Zhao Qingxiang ignoring her.

After three months, she got used to it, her mindset changed, and she no longer thought about having the three girls come back.

But when harvest season came, although they officially had one hundred acres, it was actually one hundred thirty acres, which was twenty acres less than last year.

They hired three people, and seeing how exhausted his wife was, Zhao Qingxiang let her handle what their eldest daughter did last year at home.

This made Sun Yun even more miserable. She felt tired as an adult who worked regularly, let alone her daughters who were under ten years old.

Sun Yun felt terrible, wondering what was wrong with her before? Was it just because others had sons and she didn’t?

But which son compares to how capable her daughters are?

Every morning she would take meals to her in-laws, but An Lixia refused her. ”If you have the time, do more work at home. Your dad and I can manage ourselves.”

They used to live close, so delivering meals wasn’t a big deal, but now it was quite a distance away, wasting too much time.

Sun Yun actually thought the same, but as a daughter-in-law, she couldn’t say that openly. It was good when the parents-in-law said so.

After Sun Yun left, Zhao Tian sighed, ”Now she understands how hard it was for the two kids, right?”

An Lixia sighed too, ”It’s hard for everyone. Actually, Xiao Yun is really good, she just doesn’t appreciate the three girls.”

”Enough, after this year’s work, let’s return the land and go to our eldest. There’s still wasteland there. We’ll develop it slowly, do what we can.”

”Okay, I’m worried about you exhausting yourself.”

Zhao Tian nodded, ”Can’t pretend anymore to be strong. If we have any stability, we wouldn’t want to burden the kids.”

”Right, that’s how it is. Let’s take it easy so we can save them some worry.”

This year the old couple hired fifteen people; the old lady rarely went out but stayed home tending to the pigs and chickens, doing some odd jobs.

Age really caught up with them, things they didn’t care about when young now became obvious.

This year, it wasn’t much different from previous years, just two days shy, but all the grain from the fields had been harvested. With that, it eased the mind, as once it was home, there was no rush.

Last year it was Zhao Qingxiang and his wife who hauled back the corn stalks, but this year they simply hired someone, it was too tiring otherwise.

The fields were all cleaned, and even the manure in the wheat fields was spread by hired help, costing nearly one hundred yuan slightly less.

In the evening, the couple ate dinner, ”Qingxiang, should we ask Yuanyuan to help find a job? We can’t let you work yourself to death. We fear for your health.”

”Yuanyuan is not here, let me ask Xiao Li. Maybe her husband can help, even if it costs some money, it’s worth it. If they can’t, we’ll figure it out later. My parents told me this year that after the harvest, they’ll return the land and come live with us.”

Sun Yun was slightly taken aback. Since she got married, she had never lived with her in-laws. She had seen her parents’ interactions with her sisters-in-law and knew that living close to in-laws wasn’t good.

But she knew her in-laws were decent people, without much hassle. They were going to move in, so let them. Raising kids to guard against future troubles was nature’s way.
