Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 278: 278 on the road

”Wait, wait. I never said I didn’t want it.” The young man followed behind Yuanyuan and said.

Yuanyuan didn’t stop, she continued to walk forward.

”Are you a local?”

”Yes, I’m from the city.”

”Why do you need so much meat?”

”Do I really need to say? Alright, fine, I’ll tell you. I just want to resell it for a profit.”

”How about this, I can give you two thousand pounds of pork.”

”Didn’t you say four thousand pounds?” he interrupted Yuanyuan again.

Yuanyuan was exasperated. If she hadn’t sensed he meant no harm, she really wouldn’t want to bother with him.

”Four thousand pounds is fine too. I can offer you two dollars and thirty cents, but I don’t want money, I want goldfish, quality ones.”

”Goldfish? I don’t have that many. The exchange rate at the bank is definitely not enough. It has to be eight dollars.”

”I need to see the quality. If it’s good, eight dollars is acceptable.”

”Four thousand pounds of pork is nine thousand two hundred dollars, which converts to one thousand one hundred and fifty taels of goldfish.”

”Hmm, give me as many goldfish as you have, and I’ll give you the same amount of pork.”

”Alright, but how do we determine quality?”

”You go fetch a sample. Meet me here in an hour. If I like it, I’ll tell you the transaction time.”

”I’ll give you seventy-two pounds. Can you sell me some of what you were eating on the train?”

Yuanyuan nodded, ”Sure, I have a portion left, I’ll give it to you. Come see me in an hour.”

”Okay, I’ll be back soon.”

Actually, Cheng Zhonghua was quite distressed; he didn’t have that many goldfish. But he knew who did. So he hurried off, eating as he ran. It was so delicious; he’d craved it for two days.

Yuanyuan returned to the waiting hall, inquired about the train heading that way, and was told there was no direct train, she’d have to transfer at M City.

Transfer upon transfer, but if the pesticide issue isn’t quickly resolved, it won’t sit well with her. Better to tackle it head-on than worry later.

Seeing this situation, she might have to plant cotton long-term. She had to find cotton seeds too.

After buying the ticket, Yuanyuan sat in the waiting hall, hoping to trade for some good items.

The train was at four a.m. the next day. It meant the transaction had to happen tonight, and with such a large amount, it had to be near the train station.

At this thought, Yuanyuan stood up immediately, deciding to choose the location herself, not letting them choose it.

Yuanyuan exited the train station and scouted the area. There weren’t any secluded places here.

This wouldn’t do. It wasn’t safe, so she decided on a nearby alleyway.

After exploring, she found a spot behind the train station.

More than an hour had passed when she reached the agreed-upon spot and saw the young man pacing back and forth.

Seeing Yuanyuan arrive, Cheng Zhonghua sighed in relief.

”Comrade, I thought you weren’t coming and were just messing with me.”

”Why would I?”

The two walked into a corner; Yuanyuan examined the quality, ”The quality is mediocre; I’m not satisfied.”

Cheng Zhonghua hesitantly took out another one, saying the specified order was for goldfish, and they must be well aware of the quality. Second Brother even wanted him to fool them.

Yuanyuan looked amused at the young man, wondering what his motive was.

”This quality is acceptable. If they’re all like this, we can trade. If not, then I’m sorry.”

”Comrade, I have seventy pounds of this quality. Can I give you this quality one, with an extra two taels?”

Yuanyuan nodded, ”Alright. Tonight at ten, we’ll trade in that alley. We won’t wait if you’re late.”

Cheng Zhonghua quickly agreed, ”Okay, I definitely won’t be late. Don’t worry, make sure you aren’t late either.”

Yuanyuan nodded and turned to leave.

She didn’t mention the back of the train station, but referenced the alley she found earlier as a very concealed spot where she could later lead them after examining the goldfish quality.

Having made the arrangements, Yuanyuan stayed in the waiting hall, with a few hours to wait.

Sitting in the waiting hall, she enjoyed a free show.

She watched a young man catch a thief stealing a young girl’s purse.

Yuanyuan sensed something was off, so she began to pay attention. She noticed two men exchanging glances.

The girl was no ordinary person; she beat up the thief decisively. Normally, this would be the end. But with the train station authorities getting involved, the thief confessed everything without waiting to be asked.

The girl even took down the accomplice.

It was quite amusing. What exactly were those two men up to? It wasn’t clear until the girl mentioned not to covet her family’s things. It turned out to be a hero saving the beauty, with money, not attraction, as the real motive.

Two men were apprehended, and the girl left elegantly.

Yuanyuan found her time in the train station hall quite entertaining.

As night fell, she went outside to eat, having already located a restaurant. She hoped it wouldn’t disappoint.

The evening offering at the restaurant was satisfactory, with the porridge being thick and tasty.

Afterward, she wrapped herself in a coat and closed her eyes to rest in the waiting hall.

She waited until ten minutes to ten before bundling up to go out. On reaching the agreed alley, she spotted a large cart and two men.

Approaching, one man quickly came forward. ”I was afraid you wouldn’t come.”

Yuanyuan nodded. She had already used Divine Sense to check the goldfish quality, relieved they hadn’t played any tricks this time. ”Let’s go, follow me.”

Close to the back of the train station, Yuanyuan released four thousand pounds of meat, already prepared at rest.

She also brought out a hundred pounds of intestines.

Cheng Zhonghua rushed towards the pile of pork, excitedly running over.

”You can weigh it, hand over the goldfish. If there’s a shortage, come to the place we met earlier to find me. Don’t mistrust me; we’re all in this line of work, we understand the rules.”

Cheng Zhonghua handed a bag to Yuanyuan, and they started weighing it.

Yuanyuan gave an extra ten pounds, ensuring there’d be no shortage.

She turned and left with the bag. In the darkness, she entered the space.

Inside, she changed clothes, switching the coat and headscarf before coming out and heading back to the waiting hall.

She found a secluded spot and closed her eyes to rest.

Her Divine Sense kept track of Cheng Zhonghua and his associates. They worked quickly, not bothering to weigh it due to concerns about mishaps.
