Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 264: 264 Decision

Zhao Yanli contributed ten pairs of shoes this time. This money is still enough to buy things.

After walking around, neither of them mentioned going to the building, so they directly took the carriage back home.

”Yuanyuan. Actually, I also want to settle down,”

Su Yuanyuan was a bit taken aback, ”Don’t settle down just for the sake of it.”

”But I feel like I’m redundant.”

”How could that be? You’re overthinking. Your sister-in-laws shouldn’t exclude you. After all, you’re a strong labor force.”

”Yeah, but emotionally it doesn’t feel right. I just feel uneasy.”

”You’ll get used to it. Don’t overthink.”

”Yuanyuan, do you think it’s possible for me to live independently?”

”The requirements are higher now. You need one hundred acres to get a house and a small donkey.

Managing one hundred acres alone is exhausting. I’ve been through it; I didn’t even want to continue.”

”Yuanyuan, can you come with me tomorrow to ask Director Feng if it’s possible to give me some convenience?

Honestly, the thought of marrying a stranger makes me feel unwilling. But I don’t want to stay at home anymore.”

Su Yuanyuan looked at Zhao Yanli with a complex expression, ”You should first discuss it with your brothers and sisters at home.

If they agree with your idea and the farm doesn’t provide a house, just build one yourself. I can lend you money for the donkey. Those aren’t big issues, the main thing is they have to agree.”

”Alright, I’ll go back and discuss it with my older and second brother, but I’ll skip talking to the sisters.”

”Xiao Li, living independently is really not easy; I’ve experienced it, so I’m advising you.”

”But since I don’t want to get married or stay at home, this is the only way.”

Su Yuanyuan was still puzzled about why this girl suddenly had such thoughts. Wasn’t she fine on the way here?

”Yuanyuan, I think I really can do it; I can definitely manage fifty acres.” Zhao Yanli spoke softly, saying it for Su Yuanyuan, but also to reassure herself.

”Okay, since you’ve made up your mind, then let’s do it this way. There’s still one hundred acres that they wanted to give me next to Tan Shaoting’s land; let’s split fifty acres from there.

Go home and discuss it with your family. Once everyone agrees, I’ll accompany you to find Director Feng.

Don’t worry about the house and the small donkey. If it’s something money can solve, it’s not a problem.”

Zhao Yanli smiled and nodded firmly. She remembered this sentence well in her heart. Yes, as long as money can solve it, it’s not a problem.

They got home just at night, and Su Yuanyuan brought Zhao Yanli to Zhao Qingjie’s house, where her things were.

Su Yuanyuan still had to light the fire when she got home, which is what she hated the most now, as it was too cold. She could hide in the space, but she could only imagine how others felt.

By the time it was past eight, the temperature in the room came up. Just as she was about to sleep, she heard Zhao Yanli’s voice outside. Did she manage to persuade the family?

As she went out, she saw Zhao Family’s three siblings coming over together.

”Hurry, come in. It’s too cold outside.”

The four of them sat by the iron stove in the room. There were potatoes and sweet potatoes on top.

Su Yuanyuan poured them some brown sugar water.

”Yuanyuan, my older and second brother both agreed.” A smile was on Zhao Yanli’s face.

The expressions on the brothers’ faces weren’t too good, but they didn’t object either.

”Xiao Li, I told you before, living on your own is very difficult. If you really want to live independently, you’ll have to rely on yourself for everything. We all have our own land, and during the busy farming season, no one will be able to help you.”

Zhao Yanli laughed, ”I understand this, don’t worry about me. I know it, and besides, I can work.”

”Alright, I believe you. Big brother and second brother don’t have objections, right?”

Zhao Qingxiang sighed. Honestly, an unmarried sister going out alone wasn’t good for their brothers’ reputation, but she insisted on it, and persuasion was useless. So, they should just agree; what’s the use of reputation?

”Alright then, Xiao Li wants to, so let’s let it be.”

Zhao Qingjie nodded too. Their little sister was stubborn; otherwise, they wouldn’t have come over.

”Since it’s decided, let’s go to the farm and talk to Director Feng together.

Xiao Li, have you made up your mind? Do you want to stay on our side or return to the original group?”

”I’ll come to your side.”

”Alright.” Troubles won’t be few in the future, but this girl has always been kind to her; she will definitely help where she can.

Su Yuanyuan also harnessed the donkey cart, so they wouldn’t need to send her back later.

Zhao Yanli sat on Su Yuanyuan’s cart, full of hope for the future. Su Yuanyuan felt a bit reluctant to dampen her enthusiasm.

”Xiao Li, you came here on a whim before, and you really regretted it once. How about now? Will you regret it in the future?”

Zhao Yanli smiled, ”Regret may come in the future, but at least I don’t regret it now. Isn’t that good enough?”

Su Yuanyuan paused and then laughed, ”Yes, that’s enough. Who knows what the future holds?”

They reached the farm and found Feng Baoshan, with Zhao Yanli speaking for herself.

”Director Feng, I’m already seventeen, and I want to live independently.” In fact, she was only sixteen years old, but many people count the year in their mother’s womb, so seventeen is also acceptable.

”Alright, Comrade Zhao, you have a high level of awareness. Go find Mr. Lv to handle the procedures in a while.”

”Director Feng, can I get the land next to Comrade Li Hongxiang’s? But I can’t manage one hundred acres.”

Feng Baoshan nodded knowingly, ”I understand; don’t say our farm lacks human kindness. Well, you can live in that house, but there’s really no way to get a small donkey.”

They were very satisfied with this arrangement. Building a house costs money, and hiring workers isn’t cheap either.

”Thank you very much for Director Feng’s help; this is already a lot of consideration for me.”

Zhao Yanli handled everything herself without relying on anyone else.

Su Yuanyuan just stood on the side, smiling. Zhao Yanli was capable, and given the chance to teach her to read in the future, she didn’t possess the usual shyness of female comrades, which was quite precious. Plus, her good nature made her liked everywhere.

The procedures here went very smoothly; Zhao Yanli kept a smile on her face throughout.

The farm staff came over to measure the land and did an on-the-spot handover.

The two Zhao brothers followed behind throughout, watching their sister be happy, not knowing what to say.

Arrangements were all set, ”Yuanyuan, accompany me back to move things.”

”Alright, I’ll accompany you back. No need to worry about firewood; I have it here.”

”But how many corn stalks can you possibly have? I’ll still have my older brother send over a cart.”

Thus, they spent the entire day helping Zhao Yanli move house. The Zhao family’s two sisters-in-law also gave quite a few things, as she was the only sister left.
