Chapter 461: Chapter 461: Fudge’s Secret Delight

Doujin Artist: Pfft, gave Lockhart Veritaserum? So he’s totally screwed, right?

Anyone who’s read Harry Potter knows Lockhart was just a useless old fraud to begin with. His best spell was ”Obliviate,” which he used to steal other people’s experiences and claim them as his own.

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Serves him right, the creep totally deserves it!

Machete Girl: Yeah, he deserves it, but it’s pretty rotten luck that he fell into a trap like this. I doubt even the Hogwarts professors will sympathize with him now, will they?

This is an Actor: It’s his own fault for being stupid and insisting he was allergic to Veritaserum.

That was just a desperate move.

If he had said he felt nauseous instead of allergic... or even said nothing at all, Professor McGonagall wouldn’t have just stood by and let Lockhart be force-fed the potion.

But now, everyone has realized Lockhart’s got some serious problems.

Following Jellall’s suggestion, Fudge’s push, Dumbledore’s silent approval, and Rita’s watchful eye as a professional reporter, Snape brought out the Veritaserum he personally brewed.

Ignoring the pleading in the man’s eyes and words, he poured it directly into his mouth.

Instantly, Lockhart began to tremble and gag violently. He tried to seize his last chance to spit all the Veritaserum back up.

But that clearly didn’t work at all, and Lockhart felt himself despairing as the potion slowly made its way into his stomach.

The young wizards nearby also felt a bit uncomfortable watching this. Ron whispered, ”That’s so scary! It feels like he’s being tortured! What even is Veritaserum, is it that terrifying?”

”It’s just a potion that makes you tell the truth!” Hermione stared intently at the pained Lockhart and replied softly, ”But legally speaking, forcing someone to drink it is a serious invasion of privacy.”

”If he really is a cheat, what else could we have done?” Harry shook his head. ”It would have been impossible to find proof otherwise.”

”But, but you still can’t go against the law like that, can you?” Hermione couldn’t quite understand at this point. Even though it was her admired Jellall who suggested it, she felt the method was a bit much.

The most baffling part was that even Dumbledore had silently agreed to this. It was too strange, and her opinion of Dumbledore dropped a few notches.

”The law only protects those who follow it, but Lockhart is a suspect right now!” Ron, though feeling a little sympathetic towards Lockhart, still thought the method was right. ”I think it’s very necessary to use some special little tricks on suspects like him.”

”We all know that what Lockhart said earlier, while a bit exaggerated, was the truth!” Hermione lowered her voice, rebutting, ”He’s not a suspect at all, he was just a bit too emotional.”

”But he did attack the Minister of Magic, didn’t he?” Ron blinked, asking back. ”If you were the Minister of Magic and had your hair burned off, could you just let that go?”

”That...” Hermione looked at Fudge’s bare head, and after a moment of silence, said, ”Even so, you can’t just... just take revenge like this, can you?”

While they were debating whether or not to force Veritaserum on Lockhart, Lockhart had already fallen into a dazed state. Clearly, the Veritaserum was starting to work.

Fudge, Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Snape exchanged glances, and finally, with a tacit understanding, decided to let Jellall conduct the interrogation. After all, as the former Deputy Head of the Auror Office, he was more skilled at questioning criminals than anyone else.

And as Jellall began to speak, the veneer over Gilderoy Lockhart was gradually stripped away.

”Oh my goodness!” Ten minutes later, Hermione’s mouth hung open, her expression one of utter disbelief and shock. ”Lockhart, he, he actually...”

”Fake? So it was all fake?!” Ron’s eyes were wide and his expression blank. ”Tampering with people’s memories, turning their experiences into his own, that guy is simply...”

”Simply inhuman!” Harry Potter’s face contorted with extreme indignation.

Stealing others’ experiences, distorting their achievements, and then claiming them all for himself. This kind of behavior was truly unforgivable. And who would compensate those wizards who had lost their precious memories?

”This is unbelievable, Lockhart.” It wasn’t just the young wizards; even Professor McGonagall’s face showed anger. ”You are truly bringing shame upon all of Hogwarts!”

That was a very harsh statement, as even Voldemort hadn’t received such an honor back in his day.

Although Voldemort and his Death Eaters also came from Hogwarts, and they were cruel and savage, they were evil openly. In a way, they had inherited Slytherin’s legacy.

But this Lockhart, who came from Ravenclaw, was so sinister and despicable! Committing such a disgusting act of taking credit, even the unscrupulous Slytherins would feel ashamed!

”I, I’m not... I...” By now, Lockhart was slowly coming back to his senses, looking completely deflated and afraid to look up. The memories from taking the Veritaserum wouldn’t disappear, so he knew he was completely finished.

”Minister Fudge, Lockhart is in your hands now.” After a long silence, Dumbledore said softly.

”Of course, it’s my duty,” Fudge straightened his clothes, saying calmly. ”The Ministry of Magic will certainly deal severely with a fraudster of Lockhart’s malicious nature! However, I also hope that Hogwarts will be more diligent in screening its educators in the future. After all, this concerns the future of the wizarding world!”

Fudge was filled with secret delight as he said this.

In the mainstream media of the wizarding world, his image had always been that of Dumbledore’s errand boy. Although Fudge didn’t show it on the surface, he had always harbored resentment about it.

No one in a high position wants to be someone else’s puppet, and Fudge was no exception.

While it was true that he had risen to power with Dumbledore’s support, he was now the genuine Minister of Magic. He wanted complete independence, to completely break free from Dumbledore’s influence.

With these words, he knew he had taken that step. This, of course, made him feel incredibly pleased!
