MIGHT AS WELL BE OP

Chapter 551: Anxious energy

Within Vega’s room, she and Veronica were frantically going through various brands and sets of clothes. Vega had started panicking a little as she couldn’t find anything that seemed good enough for the date.

All her clothes, which were once the epitome of beauty and design, suddenly seemed subpar, as if they couldn’t match her standards anymore.

”Veronica, what should I do? It’s almost 6 p.m., and I have nothing to wear!” Vega exclaimed as she sorted through more clothes with desperate hands.

”We wouldn’t be in this mess if you had listened to me and picked out some clothes two days ago,” Veronica replied, rolling her eyes. ”But no, you wanted to learn how to cook and also spent your time flirting through messages.”

Veronica remarked with mild frustration, though she, too, felt helpless with the situation. Clothes were scattered everywhere, and the atmosphere in the room was filled with anxious energy.

”At least I’m already a good chef within the span of two days. You didn’t even believe in me from the beginning,” Vega replied, her purple eyes dancing between which pair of heels to wear.

”Hey, I’m a supportive friend!” Veronica retorted. ”If it wasn’t for the crash course cooking videos I showed you, you might have spent a week brewing poison concoctions or something equally terrifying.”

She flopped onto the bed with a heavy sigh, sinking into the softness of the mattress.

”Giving up already?” Vega teased, waving her hand. Another wardrobe of clothing shimmered into existence within the room from her space ring.

”Why bother? You look good in anything and everything. You’re just nervous, that’s all,” Veronica replied with a huff, glancing at her best friend.

”Don’t try to trick me. You always pick out seven outfits for every day of the week, a whole week before your date, and then choose one from the seven on the day itself,” Vega stated with calmly like it was an undeniable truth.

”I do that because I don’t have your face. If I had such flawless skin and a perfect face, why would I bother with such effort?” Veronica replied as she lifted herself from the bed and shifted into a sitting position.

”If you don’t want to wear these clothes, I have a lot of dates to wear them to,” Veronica added slyly, eyeing the clothing littered across the bed and floor.

”Don’t even think about sneakily taking any of them,” Vega warned, narrowing her eyes.

”You make it sound like I’m a thief or something,” Veronica replied with a playful pout.

”Well, at least today I get to see your boyfriend,” she continued with a grin.

She genuinely wanted to see the man who had her best friend, Vega, giggling at her phone like a lovestruck teenager. The same man who had somehow turned Vega into a chef, something that had never crossed Vega’s mind in her entire life.

”And you’ll only see him from afar,” Vega replied with a mischievous smirk.

”What do you mean, from afar? You’ve met and even spoken to my boyfriend. How can you push me away now that it’s your turn?” Veronica asked, mock-offended.

”I don’t have time for you. Only twenty more minutes, and he’ll be here,” Vega replied as she finally picked out a dress and began changing into it.

She walked to the mirror and began adjusting the strap of her sleek black dress. The fabric hugged her figure perfectly, with a high slit running along one leg and a neckline that hinted at allure without going overboard.

Silver accents shimmered faintly across the surface, catching the light like stars twinkling in a midnight sky.

Her purple hair cascaded down her back in soft, flowing waves, with a few strands framing her sharp and elegant features. Wrapped gently around her neck was a simple black choker with a purple gemstone embedded at the center, mirroring the deep hue of her eyes.

She stepped into a pair of black-heeled shoes, the kind that only made a sound when she wanted to be noticed. After one last glance in the mirror, she turned to Veronica with a soft, proud smile and asked,

”How do I look?”

Veronica stared at her for a few moments before replying with a sigh, ”I simply have no words for anything I want to say.”

They laughed together as Vega picked up her perfume, spritzing a light mist onto her neck and wrists. A soft beep sounded from her phone, and she looked down at the screen.

Anthony: I’m outside.

Vega: I’m coming out.

After replying, she turned to Veronica and said, ”He’s here.”

Veronica nodded, and together they stepped out of the room, heading toward Anthony’s location with confident, steady strides.

Heads turned as they passed, but both Vega and Veronica ignored them all, walking side by side like twin angels descending from the heavens. Their presence radiated elegance, grace, and undeniable beauty.

Ahead, Anthony stood near a car that hovered gently just behind him, his eyes locked onto Vega. To him, it felt like her charm and beauty had only grown stronger over the past few days.

”You make the word perfect seem imperfect,” Anthony said softly as Vega arrived before him.

”You really have a way with words,” Vega replied, her smile glowing brighter.

She turned slightly to introduce her best friend Veronica, only to catch her staring into Anthony’s icy blue eyes as though nothing else existed in the world at that moment.

Veronica had heard Vega’s descriptions of Anthony many times before, but those descriptions had not done justice to such a face.

”It seems you’ve stolen my friend’s heart,” Vega remarked, her voice snapping Veronica out of her daze.

”I’m only good with one heart, which is yours” Anthony replied with a chuckle, offering a lighthearted smile.

”Sorry for the stare,” Veronica said quickly, recovering her composure. ”It’s nice to finally meet the man who stole Vega’s heart.”

”She stole mine instead,” Anthony said, his gaze warm. ”And might I say, your white eyes are unique.”

”Thank you,” Veronica said softly, smiling politely.

Anthony then turned his head to Vega and spoke, ”Shall we?”

Vega nodded, and Anthony stepped forward to open the car door, allowing her to enter with grace. She seated herself elegantly, the dress moving with fluid beauty. After closing the door, Anthony walked around to the other side. As he opened his door, his eyes briefly shifted to Veronica.

”Until next time, Veronica,” he said with a nod, and then entered the vehicle.

With a low hum, the car rose higher into the sky, floating gently before shooting forward at sonic speed, vanishing from view within seconds.
