Chapter 1039: Restrained

Sebastianʼs existence was distorting more and more. The Spacetime Lightning was taking control, turning him from a human into an Elemental.

At the same time, Sebastianʼs Elemental was also starting to become restless. Since Sebastian couldnʼt control it anymore, it started to behave like a normal Elemental.

Luckily, Kyle had already restrained it with his Domain. The Elemental only had the power of a Unique Sage, while Kyle was an Advanced Spirit Lord.

ʼFuck!ʼ Kyle thought as he saw Sebastianʼs Energy becoming more chaotic. The logic of a human mind was slowly being replaced by the instinctual actions of Elemental Energies.

Kyleʼs will kept Sebastian suppressed. He was trying to keep the Spacetime Lightning as calm as possible. Sadly, doing that sounded easier than it was.

ʼIf I push too little, Sebastianʼs state will keep deteriorating. If I push too much, my own Spirit will take control of the lightning. I have to keep a balance!ʼ

The Karmic Line between him and Sebastian was distorting more and more as time passed. Yet, instead of breaking into tiny lines, the Karmic Line just became misty and irregular. It was slowly vanishing!

Energies left Kyleʼs body and entered the Karmic Line. He still didnʼt know what he was actually doing, but he didnʼt have the time to make sense of it.

ʼI need to try something!ʼ he thought as concepts of the Major Laws of the Aspects flooded into Kyleʼs mind. He knew how a human functioned. Sadly, he didnʼt know how every part worked in detail. If he knew, he would have already comprehended the True Laws of the Aspects.

ʼFirst, the Center!ʼ Kyle thought as he commanded the lightning to gather in Sebastianʼs abdomen. ʼI know how a normal Center works, but I donʼt know how Sebastianʼs Center works! He works with Spacetime Lightning, not Neutral Energy!ʼ
ʼI know how a Center works, and I know how Spacetime Lightning works, but I donʼt know how the two of them interact. Fuck! What do I do?!ʼ

Kyle forced the Spacetime Lightning to compress further, and moments later, a shining ball of lightning appeared in Sebastianʼs distorting body.

And then...

ʼWhat now?!ʼ Kyle thought as he looked at the ball of lightning in panic. ʼHow do I turn it into a Center?! Itʼs just a ball of lightning! Itʼs not a Center! I donʼt know how this works!ʼ

ʼI canʼt recreate his Center. If I had the time, I might succeed, but I donʼt have the luxury of time!ʼ

Kyle looked at Sebastianʼs head. ʼNo choice. I have to use his Spirit to reconstruct his existence. I donʼt have access to his Spirit, but his mind does. I somehow need to recreate Sebastianʼs mind, but...ʼ

ʼI donʼt know how it works! I know how my mind works, but I donʼt know how his mind works! Fuck!ʼ

Kyle gritted his teeth as the Karmic Line kept deteriorating. He had already tried everything in his power to recreate Sebastianʼs mind, but nothing worked. After all, he simply didnʼt know how Sebastianʼs mind worked, and he definitely didnʼt have the time to find out!

ʼIf I keep going like this, he will die!ʼ

Kyle took a deep breath.

ʼOr, heʼs already dead...ʼ

An idea popped into Kyleʼs head, but committing to the idea meant discarding all other options. If he started the process, he would have to finish it.

ʼI canʼt think of anything else. Sorry, Sebastian, but Iʼm really running out of options here. I donʼt know how this will turn out or if it will even work, but I have to try it!ʼ

Kyle gathered a big part of the Spacetime Lightning and forced it into Sebastianʼs head. Afterward, he used his own Energy and summoned the other Elements.

Elemental Energies of all the Elements gathered to fill Sebastianʼs head. The Energies were fusing, and slowly, small bits of brain formed around the Spacetime Lightning.

Kyle was not trying to recreate Sebastianʼs mind anymore. He was making a new mind.

ʼSebastianʼs existence isnʼt purely made of Spacetime Lightning. If it were, it wouldnʼt be able to retain physical form. Itʼs just working with Spacetime Lightning. It can use Spacetime Lightning as a source of fuel!ʼ

From time to time, the Spacetime Lightning returned to form Sebastianʼs brain as his Spirit held on. Yet, as the new brain grew, the images of Sebastianʼs old mind became fainter and fainter.

Kyle was slowly replacing Sebastianʼs mind with a blank one. As Sebastianʼs old mind couldnʼt materialize anymore, the lightning that used to form it became more chaotic. It had lost its hold.

The Karmic Line became more ethereal and transparent as Kyle watched it with focused eyes.

When half of Sebastianʼs new brain was done, Kyleʼs Energy focused on the Karmic Line. He moved it around chaotically, trying desperately to manipulate it.

The Karmic Line shook with intensity as more of Kyleʼs Energy entered it, and moments later, it broke into countless small lines.

The mind was the gateway to the Spirit, which was why the Karmic Lines led from Kyleʼs mind to Sebastianʼs weakening mind.

Yet, as Kyle looked at Sebastian, he saw two realities.

He saw physical reality and Sebastianʼs new brain.

He saw karmic reality and Sebastianʼs old brain.

The Karmic Lines were connecting to Sebastianʼs old brain, which was fading more and more. That was also why the Karmic Lines were so misty and ethereal.

The Energy in the surroundings turned chaotic as Kyle pushed all of his Energy into the Karmic Line. He remembered when he had accidentally broken the Karmic Line between him and Star Genesis.

CRK!

One of the tiny threads broke. This time, it was not accidental.

A red burst appeared in Kyleʼs vision, and he felt a sharp pain in his Core, Spirit, and mind. Luckily, since he had only broken a tiny Karmic Thread, the pain wasnʼt nearly as bad as last time.

When the Karmic Thread broke, Kyleʼs Spirit grabbed onto his half of the broken Karmic Thread.

Suddenly, a strange feeling of oppression rose in Kyleʼs perception. He felt like he was trying to move a bound limb.

The feeling told Kyle where it came from, and he looked at his own Spirit, or more precisely, the black chain around it.

The three anchors and the white chain were gone.

Yet, the black chain was still there.

The white chain stopped outside forces from manipulating Kyleʼs Spirit, while the black chain restrained the power of Kyleʼs Spirit, keeping its powers away from physical reality. As long as the black chain was still there, Kyleʼs Spirit could only interact with physical reality in a limited sense. It could only do what a Soul could do.

A Soul was a part of a Spirit in the same sense as an arm was a part of a human body. The body could interact with the world by moving the arm, but only to a limited degree. Breaking the black chain represented unlocking the remainder of the body.

And what Kyle was trying to do right now couldnʼt be done by a Soul.

He needed a Spirit...

But it was still restrained by the black chain.
