The SSS-rank Guide Doesn't Need Saving

The engagement between her and Prince Soren should be over now.

Aisha glanced at her account balance.

25 million star credits. It’s not a large sum compared to how much wealth the Novalis family possessed, but to a soul transmigrator like Aisha, this was good startup money for her future. With how things are now, she has no plans to depend on anyone but herself.

”Miss Aisha, is this going to be alright?” Her maid calmed down after the prince left.

Aisha knew what she was worried about.

Currently, Aisha is publicly known as Prince Soren’s fiancée. This engagement was made by her grandparents and Prince Soren’s grandmother, who was a consort back then. They saved her from an attack, and as compensation for their honorable action, the previous emperor rewarded them not only with an official pass for free trade but also with a connection to the royal family.

In all honesty, both of them cannot just decide on their annulment without their elders’ approval.

However, Aisha and Prince Soren are no longer children.

Now at eighteen, Aisha can decide for herself. It was just that she stubbornly held on to the prince despite the latter showing his dislike of her and threatening to break their relationship several times already.

”Don’t worry, Daisy. Once His Highness submits the papers to the Civil Affairs Ministry, no one in this world can object to it.” Aisha patted the young maid’s head, smiling consolingly.

Before she obtained the memories stored in this body, Aisha didn’t know how to act toward this innocent maid, but now, reflecting on how the previous owner had acted before, she realized how disgusting and horribly blinded she was.

It was to the point that she was willing to drag the entire world down with her.

Although she was not a native of this world, she could understand the perceptions of other people of Aisha Novalis.

Aisha calmed down. They could hate Aisha Novalis all they want. She didn’t give a damn about them anyway.

”What are you?”

Her attention was stolen by the tiny creature clinging to her index finger. It never let go when it finally latched onto her.

It was like a clingy child who had always been in its mother’s embrace. Once they let go, they feel lost and anxious.

She already asked Daisy what she thought this creature was, but the young maid didn’t know either. Spiritual beasts are creatures of many mysteries. Once they’re born and manifested, they can evolve into anything. But it’s very common to have a spiritual body that has a very distinct shape and kind.

A guide’s mind and their spiritual beast are one.

And right now, Aisha’s tiny silkworm was sending its thoughts to her.

”Guruguru.”

”You...”

It was telling her it was tired and sleepy.

A strange look appeared in her eyes. Aisha turned to Daisy, asking, ”Do spiritual beasts know how to speak?”

”Ah?” Daisy looked just as confused as she was.

Seeing that she knew nothing about this, Aisha no longer talked about it.

After the prince’s exit and her becoming a multi-millionaire, Aisha’s days at the hospital became even more peaceful.

Since the hospital officially said that she was an unstable patient and needed more observation, she wasn’t allowed to leave. Those who wanted to meet her were also turned away. But they can’t tell family members to leave since it is still within their rights to see the patient.

Yet Aisha never met any member of the Novalis family.

All the interactions she received from them since she woke up in the hospital were messages that were clearly automated and didn’t have any heartfelt curiosity about her well-being.

Their lack of affection and concern only cemented Aisha’s resolve to quietly leave them.

Everything was seemingly calm and harmonious.

But what Aisha did not know was that on the day she used her guiding ability, the entire city was thrown into chaos.

A widespread hunt has been started. It was all because of that mysterious and blinding light that appeared in a flash.

Those who have witnessed it couldn’t stop talking about it—on the news, to their family and friends, and even on their socials. While those who didn’t were in disbelief and tried to denounce the rumors as untrue and demanded proof of the phenomenon.

Because of the unclear source of that light, many conspiracy theories appeared. For example, an experiment went wrong, and that light was the aftershock of the explosion. Or, a cosmic horror was reared by the rebels and was born, and the light was released after it broke out of its shell. And many more.

And at the center of it all was Gaia Hospital, where the light was observed to have come from.

”Are there still no leads to that light?” a middle-aged man asked.

A man in a doctor’s coat shook his head. In just two days, his usually combed hair was strewn all over with grey dusting from his scalp, and he hadn’t even had time to wash his face.

Looking extremely exhausted and sleep-deprived, he replied, ”From the accounts we received, there’s no definite lead. However, some witnesses who were at the hospital on that day said that they all saw it come from one of the rooms on the fourth floor.”

”And have you investigated the people who are staying on the fourth floor?” the executive asked. He wore a slate-grey tunic and white coat. A silver-thread pattern was written on his chest that read Chief Medical Officer. ”In today’s technology, how is it that we can’t find the source of it?”

A female doctor stepped forward, her brown hair bounced as she greeted the chief. ”After we received their testimonies, we hurriedly investigated. These people are the only ones on that floor at that hour and day.”

A holographic screen moved and displayed the faces of fifteen people.

”We’ve collected their information. Six of them are patients, and the nine came to the hospital as visitors,” the woman added.

Seeing unfamiliar faces, the chief medical officer pressed his temples, feeling a headache already. But just as he was about to turn away, his eyes caught a face he recognized.

”That is...”

Like everyone else in that room, they instantly recognized the fourth prince, Prince Soren Valerius.

”What is he doing at the hospital that day?”

An S-rank Sentinel and a prince at that, was at their hospital. Why didn’t anyone notice and tell him? Receiving them formally was only right.

The woman hesitated to speak. But with one glare from the chief medical officer, she spilled what she knew then. She couldn’t keep this from the hospital anyway since things had gotten out of hand.

”He came to see his fiancée.”

Once these words fell on their ears, everyone reacted simultaneously. They looked as if they had finally found a light at the end of a tunnel. They were relieved that their search was coming to an end.

They knew that Prince Soren was a high-ranking Sentinel. He is also one of the empire’s most promising and strongest young sentinels. With a powerful psychic level, surely his fiancée was also as talented as he was, right?

”Must be an S-ranked guide, right?”

”Has the empire produced another S-rank guide?”

”Wait... that light back then was too intense for just an S-rank...”

”Could it be...?”

But the heated and excited discussion was shut down by the female doctor.

”No. Actually, she’s just a D-rank guide.”
