The Deadly Hitwoman: The Heiress's Special Abilities

Chapter 957: Chapter 957: You Still Have a Biological Father!

Han Jing did not avoid letting Xiao Xue listen in. Since Xiao Xue was going to learn Spirit Control Technique from Lianwu, there was no harm in her hearing about related matters.

So she told Lianwu about Fengxi.

After listening, Lianwu was slightly surprised. ”So you actually have a biological father!”

Han Jing... what else would it be? Was she supposed to have popped out of a crack in a rock?

Xiao Xue, who was half‑heartedly walking while lost in thought and drawing talismans, looked up and asked, ”Then do I have two grandfathers on Mother’s side?”

Han Jing gave her a sidelong glance. ”Draw your talismans.”

Xiao Xue... is drawing.

Lianwu thought for a bit, and only after a good while did she answer, ”For a Spirit Cultivator whose soul is undamaged, rebirth is indeed possible.”

Lian Xichen instantly got excited. ”Really? There really is a way? No wonder Master was willing to give up the Beiming Pearl back then, yet insisted on preserving Adoptive Father’s soul. So there really is a way!”

Lianwu gave him a look. ”Don’t get worked up just yet.”

Lian Xichen looked at Lianwu somewhat nervously.

Lianwu explained, ”The saying ’the dead cannot come back to life’ isn’t just empty words. The so‑called ’rest in peace in the earth’ is because there is an underworld in this world, specifically in charge of managing Yin Souls. Only after paying the burial fee to the underworld will the Ghost Envoy come to hook the soul and bring it back to the underworld to line up for reincarnation. Because the underworld is only so big, it’s impossible for it to manage every single Yin Soul, so that’s how Wandering Ghosts and ghost spirits came to be. These are two different things, because the underworld cannot control ghost spirits; they are only responsible for the Yin Souls they themselves take away. For this reason, Spirit Control Technique exists in this world—because too many people die unnatural deaths, too many cannot rest in peace, and not only humans; other living creatures also have souls, and after death most of them will likewise become ghost spirits.”

”Aside from these two situations, there is another case where the soul and the body separate. Within seven days after death, the soul remains completely intact. If during this window the soul is preserved perfectly, or a new host body is found, as long as the fit is complete, rebirth can be achieved. Once seven days pass, the soul begins to suffer damage. If it is not taken away by a Ghost Envoy from the underworld, it will slowly become a Wandering Ghost. After three years, it will completely lose all memories from its former life, either becoming a spirit-type being, or drifting on until its soul scatters and is utterly erased from the world—of course, except for those rare ones who have fortunate encounters. Humans have fated opportunities; spirits also have fated opportunities. It all depends on fortune.”

”In the situation you described, where his remains are intact and it was only because his Spirit Core was damaged that his soul and body separated—so long as his soul has been preserved in full, and his corpse is also intact, then rebirth is not difficult. But the prerequisite is that his soul must have cultivated to be strong enough to repair his Spirit Core.”

”What does that mean?” Han still understood the earlier parts, but the latter half was starting to sound foggy to her. After all that roundabout talk, what exactly did it mean?

Lianwu explained, ”You know what Spirit Cultivators rely on to maintain longevity, right?”

Han Jing nodded.

Spirit Cultivators absorb Spiritual Energy, Gathering Spirit as Flame to form a Spirit Core. The Spirit Core is the fundamental thing that sustains a Spirit Cultivator’s life and is what sets them apart from ordinary people. Once a Spirit Cultivator’s Spirit Core is damaged, death is inevitable.

”The Beiming Pearl contains Divine Power. With Divine Power protecting his soul, his soul can completely cultivate a new Spirit Core. As long as he cultivates a new Spirit Core, he can once again merge body and soul into one and obtain rebirth.”
