Gardener of Eden

Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Slime Lord

Moving in a synchronized grid through the misty marshlands, Squad 07 spent the next several hours methodically clearing the endless pockets of slimes infesting the reeds.

With Caelen and Barney holding the vanguard line, Seraphina analyzing membrane weaknesses, and Mirei picking off stray level 3s from long range, Rowan repeatedly rotated through his agricultural combat skills. Wide sweeps of his Rank C Hoe, coupled with the occasional devastating activation of [Earthbreaker Plough], turned cluster after cluster of slimes into instant exp and floating mana crystals.

As Rowan brought his hoe down on another pack, a crisp system notification flashed across his vision:

[SYSTEM ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED]

Title: Slime Killer

Requirement: Defeat 1,000 Slimes (Completed)

Effect: Bonus damage against all Slime-type creatures increased by +15%.

”Got an achievement bonus,” Rowan noted, adjusting his grip as the light faded. ”Keep pushing, the spawn rate isn’t slowing down.”

The group pressed on, their coordination tightening with every wave. Beams of light periodically enveloped the squad as their level bars filled up from the sheer volume of monsters cleared.

By late afternoon, as Rowan struck down what felt like the final cluster in a sprawling peat bog, the total counter on their party log clicked over to a staggering milestone: 10,000 Slime Kills.

Suddenly, the ambient temperature dropped. The misty fog turned a jagged, electric violet.

CRACK-BOOOOM!

A blinding bolt of blue thunder violently struck the ground thirty meters ahead of the group, shattering the peat and sending scorched mud flying into the air. Before the thunderclap even faded, a second and third lightning bolt slammed into the exact same spot, ionising the atmosphere with the sharp smell of ozone.

From every corner of the marshland—the reeds, the mud pools, the surrounding trees—thousands of remaining slimes began to quiver uncontrollably. As if drawn by an irresistible magnetic pull, they surged toward the smoking crater where the blue thunder had struck, flowing together like a massive, gelatinous tidal wave.

The mass expanded rapidly, rising ten, twenty, thirty feet into the air. Membranes fused, cores melted into one another, and electricity crackled wildly across the surface of the rising fluid.

A deep, reverberating rumble shook the ground beneath Squad 07’s feet as the giant entity stabilized, raising three massive pseudopods that dripped with electrified acid.

[FIELD BOSS ANALYSIS]

Target: Slime Lord

Level: 5 (Field Boss)

HP: 12,500 / 12,500

MP: 3,200 / 3,200

Attributes: Electrified / High Mass Absorption / Acid Core

Barney immediately planted his heavy tower shield into the dirt, his knuckles white against the grip. ”That is... a lot of slimes in one body!”

Caelen drew his broadsword, his eyes locked on the glowing central core pulsating deep within the monstrosity’s translucent chest. ”Watch the lightning arc! It’s aggregating all the floor mana!”

High above in the tree line, the air rippled as their third-year monitor shifted her footing on a high branch, her hand resting on the hilt of her dagger as she watched the massive field boss tower over the first-year squad.

Rowan leveled his Rank C Hoe at the giant creature, his eyes narrowing as his new [Slime Killer] title resonated with his mana circuit.

”Form up,” Rowan commanded calmly. ”We take it down together.”

The giant monstrosity loomed over the marshlands, its translucent body crackling with blue electricity as a massive health bar materialized in Rowan’s vision:

[SLIME LORD]

HP: 12,500 / 12,500

MP: 3,200 / 3,200

”Barney, take the front! Seraphina, slow its movements!” Rowan ordered, surging forward.

The Slime Lord reared back a colossal, lightning-infused pseudopod and slammed it down toward the team. Barney drove his heavy tower shield into the mud, activating his defensive stance with a roar as the shockwave struck. The electric impact forced him back three paces, but he held the line.

”Now!” Rowan yelled, leaping past the shield into the boss’s immediate attack zone. He swept his weapon in a wide, vicious arc.

[Skill Activated: Scythe of the Harvester] Damage Dealt: -850 HP (Slime Killer +15% applied) Debuff Applied: [Reap] [SLIME LORD HP: 11,650 / 12,500]

The sharp, wind-infused edge sliced deep through the monster’s thick gelatinous outer layer, leaving a gaping, oozing tear that bled continuous damage. Enraged, the Slime Lord surged forward, its mass rippling as hundreds of tiny acid projectiles fired in all directions.

”Look out!” Caelen shouted, parrying a stray globule while Seraphina shattered two glass vials on the ground. A dense frost coat spread over the mud, freezing the boss’s lower base and pinning it in place.

Rowan slammed his heel violently into the frozen earth beneath the giant creature.

[Skill Activated: Terra Tilling] Damage Dealt: -450 HP Effect: Unstable Terrain / Accuracy Reduced [SLIME LORD HP: 11,200 / 12,500]

The ground beneath the Slime Lord churned into a sea of shifting mud and stone shards, throwing the creature off balance. Its crackling blue lightning discharged wildly into the dirt rather than targeting the squad.

Taking advantage of the opening, Mirei unleashed a volley of mana-infused arrows straight into the monster’s outer hull, opening a path toward its inner core.

The Slime Lord roared—a wet, guttural sound—and spent a wave of its own mana to trigger an explosive shockwave.

[Slime Lord MP: 2,400 / 3,200]

A surge of high-voltage acid swept outward. Rowan reacted instantly, gripping his hoe with both hands and discharging a dense cloud of energy.

[Skill Activated: Chaff in the Wind] Effect: Invisibility Granted / Attack Evaded

The acidic explosion tore through the air, but Rowan vanished into a swirl of sharp husks and dust. Reappearing directly behind the boss’s exposed rear flank, he channeled dense gravitational force into the flat of his hoe and drove it upward into the core’s defensive shell.

[Skill Activated: Threshing Strike] Critical Hit! Armor Shattered! Damage Dealt: -2,100 HP [SLIME LORD HP: 9,100 / 12,500]

The massive impact sent crackling fractures across the boss’s glowing blue core. The Slime Lord thrashed violently, its HP draining rapidly as the continuous bleed from [Reap] ripped through its remaining health pool.

[SLIME LORD HP: 6,400 / 12,500]

”It’s compressing its mass! It’s going to self-detonate!” Seraphina warned, her eyes darting across her alchemy readouts.

The giant boss began shrinking rapidly, drawing all remaining electric mana into its core as its HP ticked down under the party’s relentless focus fire.

[SLIME LORD HP: 3,200 / 12,500]

”Everyone behind Barney!” Rowan commanded, lowering his stance as his mana circuit flared with golden light. He drove the blade of his Rank C Hoe deep into the bedrock.

[Skill Activated: Earthbreaker Plough - Celestial Furrow]

BOOM!

The earth split wide open. A 30-meter wave of pulverized rock, mud, and raw earth mana erupted upward, catching the compressing Slime Lord right under its core. The sheer kinetic pressure shattered the inner core into a thousand glowing fragments before the self-detonation could trigger.

[SLIME LORD HP: 0 / 12,500]

The giant gelatinous mass dissolved instantly into a sweeping rain of clear liquid, before entire monster form disintegrated into a glittering shower of blue mana particles that drifted lazily into the damp air.

Where the monstrous entity had stood just moments prior, a heavy, ornate Silver Treasure Chest materialized on the freshly plowed earth, its polished metallic accents gleaming under the dim light of the marshland.

[FIELD BOSS DEFEATED!]

Target: Slime Lord (Level 5 Field Boss)

Status: Cleared

Reward: 1x Silver Treasure Chest Spawned

Barney lowered his heavy tower shield with a long, exhaling sigh, leaning his weight against the rim. ”Now that is what I call a reward. A chest straight from a Field Boss.”

Caelen wiped a fleck of mud off his blade and sheathed it, walking over alongside Seraphina and Mirei. ”Field boss silver chests on Layer 2 usually guarantee high-grade catalysts, rare equipment, or skill scrolls.”

Up in the tree canopy, the faint rustle of leaves settled as their third-year monitor adjusted her position, silently taking note of Squad 07’s flawless execution in downing a Level 5 Field Boss without taking a single casualty.

Rowan approached the chest, resting his Rank C Hoe against his shoulder as he placed his hand on the silver latch.

Placing his hand on the intricate latch, Rowan channeled his innate luck bonus into the silver mechanism. With a soft click, the chest unlocked, emitting a gentle, warm glow as five distinct items materialized inside—a perfect allocation tailored for each member of Squad 07.

Rowan reached in and pulled out his reward: an Enchanted Straw Hat. Though humble in appearance, woven from fine, golden-hued stalks that hummed with subtle nature mana, its stats were remarkable for a support-class asset.

[EQUIPMENT IDENTIFIED]

Name: Enchanted Straw Hat

Grade: Rare / Enchanted

Stat Boost: +1 to All Attributes (Strength, Agility, Endurance, Intelligence, Mana Pool)

Special Passive: [Farmer’s Vitality] — Significantly reduces physical and mental fatigue while engaging in farming, domain cultivation, or field labor.

Rowan placed the straw hat onto his head. Instantly, a cool, refreshing sensation washed over his body, instantly washing away the residual strain from maintaining his domain and wielding [Earthbreaker Plough].

”Looks like the chest delivered exactly what everyone needed,” Rowan said, stepping back so the rest of the team could retrieve their items.

For Caelen: A Silver-Edged Vangard Scabbard that passively recharges weapon durability and adds a quick-draw speed bonus.

For Seraphina: An Apothecary’s Flask Pouch lined with stasis runes, preserving the potency of volatile acidic compounds indefinitely.

For Barney: A Reinforced Tower Shield Boss that increases knockback resistance and heavy defense by 15%.

For Mirei: A Wind-Blessed Quiver that automatically imbues her arrows with a minor wind-elemental armor-piercing effect.

”A perfect haul,” Caelen said, examining his new scabbard with a grin. ”Every single piece directly complements our combat roles.”

With the rewards claimed and equipped, the chest dissolved into harmless light particles, leaving Squad 07 fully geared and ready to press further into Layer 2.
