Gardener of Eden

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Delicacy

The high-pitched chime of Rowan’s alarm shattered the quiet stillness of 5:30 AM. He reached out, killing the noise instantly before it could wake his parents down the hall. Sliding off his bed, he felt a crisp, weightless vitality buzzing through his muscles—a lingering gift from [Primordial Renovation] and his newly boosted 13 Vitality.

He locked his door, closed his eyes, and focused on the mark pulsing gently against his mind.

[Domain: The Virgin Soil]

A breath later, the familiar, serene twilight of the domain washed over him. Rowan walked briskly down the marble path toward the colossal root cellar under the Great Tree. The ambient green stasis mist hovered over the shelves, preserving his first harvest in immaculate condition.

He selected a generous portion of his Peak Grade-E produce:

3x Verdant Crown Tomatoes — glowing with a deep, ruby luster.

1x Amethyst Solar Squash — heavy, firm, and striped with faint violet veins.

2x Ignis-Bloom Sweet Peppers — radiating a subtle, cozy warmth.

With the harvest resting securely in a small woven basket, he stepped back through the marble archway and returned to his bedroom.

Treading quietly on wooden floorboards, Rowan snuck down to the kitchen. He opened the refrigerator and carefully arranged the vibrant, mana-rich produce on the middle shelf, right beside the ordinary store-bought greens. He smiled to himself, imagining his mother Martha’s reaction when she opened the fridge to make breakfast and felt the rich, sweet aroma radiating off the Edenic crops.

With the morning sun still hiding below the horizon, Rowan stepped out into the backyard. The air was cool and crisp, carrying the damp scent of early dawn dew.

In the dim gray light, the small backyard trial plot he had planted the day before was already showing remarkable progress. Guided by his [Breath of Eden - Lv. 1] aura and [Green Thumb (Grade I)], delicate green shoots had broken through the dark soil, stretching eagerly toward the morning sky.

Rowan spent the next hour in peaceful concentration:

Clearing the Ground: He pulled small weeds, cleared loose pebbles, and aerated the surrounding soil with a hand trowel, ensuring the roots had maximum room to expand.

Channeling Mana: Kneeling beside the fresh sprouts, he extended his palms and activated [Nourish]. A faint, shimmering emerald light flowed from his hands into the earth. The soil absorbed the mana greedily, and the pale green stems visibly thickened, their leaves broadening in real-time.

Checking the Perimeter: He inspected the drainage lines and laid down a neat border of loose stone to protect the young plants from runoff.

By the time the first golden rays of sunlight crested over the suburban rooftops, Rowan stood up and wiped a light sheen of sweat from his forehead. His stamina pool barely registered the effort.

The backyard plot was thriving, the kitchen fridge held a surprise capable of shocking any lifestyle cultivator, and Rowan was completely ready to take on his first day at the Sol-Aethel Awakener’s Academy.

Wiping a light sheen of sweat from his forehead, Rowan took a step back to admire the backyard. With [Breath of Eden - Lv. 2] now radiating outward in a full 10-meter radius, the passive aura engulfed the entire plot easily. Under the rich, ambient pulse of life energy, the delicate shoots stretched visibly toward the morning sky, their leaves darkening into a vibrant, healthy green.

Just as he brushed the loose soil off his hands, a surprised gasp echoed from the kitchen window, followed by a loud, bewildered call:

”Rowan! Are these yours?!”

Rowan smiled, heading through the back door and sliding off his garden clogs. As he stepped into the warm light of the kitchen, his mother Martha was standing in front of the wide-open refrigerator, staring intently at the middle shelf. She was holding one of the Verdant Crown Tomatoes, its smooth, ruby skin catching the light with an almost crystalline sheen. Beside it, the subtle warmth radiating from the Ignis-Bloom Sweet Peppers had gently taken the chill off the fridge air, filling the kitchen with a sweet, invigorating aroma.

”Rowan...” Martha turned to him, her eyes wide as she gestured to the glowing spread. ”Where on earth did these come from? The aroma alone feels like... like something from a high-tier guild sanctuary!”

Rowan leaned against the doorframe, trying to play it cool despite the pride swelling in his chest.

”My experiments on the crops performed really well,” Rowan replied with a confident grin. ”That’s the very first batch of produce I harvested.”

Martha’s breath hitched as she carefully touched the firm, violet-veined skin of the Amethyst Solar Squash. ”First harvest? But... the seeds were planted so recently! And the mana density in these—Rowan, these have to be Peak E-Grade!”

”They are,” Rowan confirmed, walking over to the stove and pulling out a cutting board. He picked up a knife and gently nudged the produce toward her. ”Go on, Mom. Use them to make breakfast. Trust me, you’ve got to taste them fresh.”

Martha looked between her son and the immaculate Edenic vegetables, her hands trembling slightly as she picked up the chef’s knife. ”Peak E-Grade for a casual breakfast... If the neighbors knew what we were eating, they’d think we were imperial royalty.”

As the first slice of tomato yielded under the blade, a burst of rich, sweet juice and pure, soothing mana filled the kitchen, promising a breakfast like nothing the Vance family had ever experienced before.

The rich, invigorating aroma of sizzling peppers and caramelized squash filled every corner of the small kitchen, waking Arthur as he came down the stairs rubbing his eyes. He stopped dead in his tracks, blinking at the cast-iron skillet resting in the center of the wooden dining table.

”Martha... what in the world are you cooking?” Arthur asked, his gaze fixed on the vibrant dish. The Edenic Sunburst Skillet practically glowed: velvety, violet-veined cubes of Amethyst Solar Squash nestled alongside fiery-orange strips of Ignis-Bloom Sweet Peppers, all held together by a rich, ruby-red reduction of Verdant Crown Tomatoes. Three perfectly poached eggs rested in the center, their golden yolks shimmering under the morning light.

”Don’t look at me,” Martha said with a bright, disbelieving smile as she set down three plates and forks. ”Thank your son. It’s the first harvest from his trial plot.”

Arthur’s eyes snapped to Rowan, wide with shock. ”Rowan? These are... this aroma feels like a Grade-E mana density at minimum! From a suburban backyard?”

”My class abilities synced really well with the soil,” Rowan said modestly, though he couldn’t hide his grin as he pulled out a chair. ”Go on, Dad. Eat before it gets cold.”

The family sat down together, the morning sun casting warm golden light across the table. Arthur took his fork and broke one of the egg yolks, letting the rich yellow liquid mingle with the caramelized squash and tomato jam. He scooped up a bite and brought it to his mouth.

The moment the food touched his tongue, Arthur froze.

The Amethyst Solar Squash delivered an incredible texture—crisp and caramelized on the outside, but meltingly soft inside with a rich, nutty sweetness. Immediately following it, the Ignis-Bloom Sweet Peppers released a cozy, radiant warmth across his palate, perfectly balanced by the sharp, refreshing brightness of the Verdant Crown Tomatoes.

”Gods above,” Arthur breathed, his eyes closing in pure bliss.

Then, the true magic of the Peak Grade-E produce took hold.

A gentle wave of purified life energy erupted from the food, flowing smoothly from Arthur’s stomach outward through his limbs. The dull, lingering ache in his lower back from years of hard labor simply vanished. His posture straightened automatically as his stamina rapidly replenished, leaving him feeling twenty years younger.

Martha took her first bite and let out a soft, delighted gasp. She could feel her mental fatigue instantly evaporating, replaced by a crisp, serene clarity. ”Rowan... this isn’t just delicious. It’s restorative! The mana flow in these crops is completely pure. There’s no harshness or impurity at all!”

Rowan took a bite himself, feeling the familiar warmth of his own domain’s energy circulating through his system. His Mana and Stamina pools topped off instantly, humming at full capacity:

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

Consumed: Peak Grade-E Edenic Sunburst Skillet

Effect: All Stat Pools fully restored.

Buff: [Vitalizing Nourishment] — Stamina regeneration increased by +20% and mental fatigue resistance heightened for 6 hours.

”If this is what your class produces on day one,” Arthur said, shaking his head in awe as he eagerly scooped up another forkful, ”the Awakener’s Academy isn’t going to know what hit them.”

”Just make sure you don’t show off too much on your first day,” Martha added, her eyes shining with warmth and pride as she reached over to pat Rowan’s hand. ”Though... if you happen to bring home more of these tomatoes, your mother won’t complain.”

Rowan laughed, savoring the delicious breakfast alongside his family. With his body energized, his mana overflowing, and his parents fully supporting him, he knew he was completely ready for whatever awaited him at Sol-Aethel Awakener’s Academy.
