Forty Millenniums of Cultivation

The young man’s heart almost stopped beating.

The illusionary world in front of him shattered like butterflies in a storm.

The broken bodies of the butterflies formed a glamorous picture again.

In the endless sea of stars, a road that looked like a galaxy extended to the other side. The silver road was covered in burning thorns. The burnt thorns were secreting venomous liquids that were more painful than death.

This was the road to ‘truth’.

This was the road leading to ‘human beings’.

Was he really going to embark on such a path?

Gus swallowed hard. He felt that molten steel was spurting out of his chest.

Although he knew that it was probably the work of the devil, he could not say anything, nor did he want to.

“Let’s go.”

Lu Qingchen smiled and grabbed the young man’s wrist, not caring what Gus was thinking. “Let’s go to the final battlefield!”

Disoriented, Gus returned to the casualty camp.

At this moment, the battle at the frontline was getting more and more intense.

Although they were still dozens of kilometers away from the frontline, the thunderous noises on the battlefield were still echoing like surging tides. Everybody felt numb from their ears to their feet.

The flames on the horizon were burning all the way from the battlefield to the sky, illuminating the night sky like an upside-down pot that was about to be burnt through at any moment.

It had been a long time since a wounded soldier was sent down.

On the other hand, many panicked soldiers abandoned their armor and armor and passed by the wounded camp.

Realizing that there were only the old, the weak, the women, the children, and the wandering ghosts in the camp, the defeated soldiers were too lazy to bother them and simply continued fleeing southwards in a panic.

The two siblings, Gus and Grey, summoned up their courage and asked them about the situation at the frontline. The defeated soldiers could not explain it clearly, either. They only knew that the two armies were engaged in a fierce battle. Surrounded and counterattacked, they collapsed, gathered and collapsed again.

The army of steam was a ragtag mob that was hastily formed. Whether it was discipline, morale, or training, they were far from being able to compete with the Iron Fist Army. Once a small force was defeated and collapsed, it would be very difficult to assemble it again. In the confusion, as long as one or two cowardly soldiers got cold feet, it would often trigger a chain reaction, leading to hundreds of people fleeing together.

It was not unusual for a lot of soldiers of the Steam Legion to run away without knowing who their enemy was.

The Iron Fist Legion was, after all, a well-trained elite legion that had been through hundreds of battles. Even if they were injured or crippled, as long as they didn’t lose their mobility, they would be able to regroup and enter the battlefield without batting an eyelid.

Then again, this was the southern territory after all. It was sort of the home ground of the Mechanical and Steam Sect.

As the saying goes, when there are too many ants, they can bite an elephant to death. When the number of mobs exceeds the limit, it is possible for the quality to be overwhelmed.

It was true that many mobs collapsed after the first clash or even without a fight. But as the news that the main force of the two parties was engaged spread out, more mobs were arriving. As the number of mobs grew larger and larger, the advantage of numbers was brought into play, and the battlefront was gradually stabilizing.

Therefore, it was hard to say who would win.

Maybe, both of them were getting closer and closer to the limit of life and death. They were like two fighters who were gritting their teeth and waiting for the last heavy punch to knock each other down and make it impossible for them to stand up again.

“We should go to the frontline!”

Gus and Grey found Andre.

The remaining soldiers of the steam army from the north were tasked to protect the wounded camp and did not participate in the final battle of the main force.

But during their journey to the south, they had witnessed the ‘miracles’ performed by Gus more than once, and their admiration for him had reached a fever pitch.

Besides, Gus did have a point.

“Right now, the war has entered the most critical phase. The main force of both sides are holding on to their last breath. Whoever gets a new bargaining chip at this moment—even an insignificant bargaining chip—may trigger a chain reaction and cause the scales of victory to shift to their side!”

Gus gnashed his teeth. “Although we don’t have many hands and we are not strong enough, who says that we can’t be the key bargaining chip to determine the outcome?

“As for the dangers, of course, there are dangers. But we have come all the way south to this place. Besides taking a risk, do we have any other options?

“It must be noted that the defeated soldiers were all from their hometown. Even if the Steam Legion suffered a crushing defeat, as long as they hid in the dense reeds and mountains, nobody would be able to find them.

“As for us, we are all from the north. On our way to the south, we’ve killed countless Iron Fist Soldiers and priests of the Temple of Fist, too. We’ve made up our mind in the Temple of Fist a long time ago. If the Steam Legion is defeated and the Iron Fist Legion pursues the victory, there will be no hope for us to get away.

“Therefore, in order to defeat the Iron Fist Legion and the Temple of Fist, to completely control our own destiny, or just to survive, we should march against the current to the battlefield of the final battle!

Gus’s words touched every soldier’s heart.

Of course, it was also possible that the remaining soldiers remembered the earthshaking, destructive power of the storm bolter, the Vulcan Machine Gun, and the honeycomb launcher.

If they marched out as a surprise troop when the two armies were anxious and helped Gus destroy the core of the Iron Fist Legion with the terrifying weapons, it was very likely that the victory would be secured.

Everything was decided then.

The remaining soldiers were originally responsible for protecting the wounded camp, but that was when the wounded soldiers, the old and the weak, and the supplies were sufficient.

Right now, the wounded camp had almost turned into a wasteland. It was meaningless to stay there any longer.

The remaining soldiers were ready for battle in the first place. Now that the last bit of their vitality and desire for survival had been triggered by Gus, they were the only rebels among the countless soldiers.

The refugees were naturally surprised to see the remaining soldiers.

But at this moment, order had completely gone out of control. Even the defeated soldiers were not stopped, let alone the remaining soldiers who were rushing to the battlefield to “die”.

Not all the defeated soldiers were cowards.

Many of them were fanatics of the Steam Clan and the Mechanical Church. Their entire family had been slaughtered by the Iron Fist Legion, and there was an unresolvable hatred between them and the Temple of Fist.

But they were carried away from the battlefield because of the chaotic torrents.

After running dozens of kilometers, the defeated soldiers finally calmed down and regained some of their organization and discipline.

At this moment, with one look and one question, he knew that even the remnants of the army from the north were marching against the current and preparing to fight to the death with the main force of the Iron Fist Legion.

Looking at their own performance, the fanatics were truly ashamed.

Besides, the name of ‘Holy Son’ had been publicized a long time ago. Many fanatics had heard of it.

Even if they were skeptical and did not take the ‘Holy Son’ seriously, it was an undeniable fact that the ‘Holy Son’ was marching against the current.

Illuminated by the torch and perhaps enchanted by the devil, Gus looked young but sacred and magnificent.

Therefore, after dozens of kilometers, the followers behind Gus and Grey turned out to be not just the remnants of the northern army led by Andre, but also the zealots of the dozens of legions that had been routed. The number of followers suddenly increased by ten times!
