The Dark Rebirth of Pandora: Revenge of the Abyss

Chapter 619: Both Sides

”Pandora, I always thought you were truly terrible, even if youʼre a friend I love dearly, but this time... this time youʼve really impressed me... I take back every bad thing Iʼve ever said about you!! Youʼre incredible,” I say to Pandora with a smile.

”Obviously,” she answers boldly before making a somewhat annoyed expression.

”Iʼm going!! Iʼll be gone a while, so please donʼt call me!!” I start to leave, heading back to my house. Iʼm so excited.

Iʼve been feeling very lonely ever since Pandora entered the abyss. I had to end a relationship, and then I spent many years just watching Pandora get trapped by that tentacle girl, and after that I spent even more time, etc.

In short, I stood still just watching for way too long! So I was really anxious for someone to talk to, to the point where I even struck up a certain friendship with Pandoraʼs older sister.

”...” I arrive inside my house and look around, seeing Blayze standing still in a corner.

”?”

”I was waiting. I wanted to know if I may use something from here? And may I place my weapon next to yours?” She asks politely, and it immediately lifts my spirits. Itʼs very different from Mesumari, who would invade my house out of nowhere and take up space without asking permission.

”Of course! You can use whatever you want, and you can also place your weapon next to mine.” When I say that, she smiles with gratitude, materializing a scythe and placing it on a stand next to a sword, which is basically me.

”You are very kind. I know we donʼt know each other well, but Iʼve been alone for so long that I admit Iʼm a bit starved for socialization,” she says timidly as she sits on the sofa.

”Well, I understand. Not as much as you, of course, but I spent a lot of time alone before I met Pandora.” Loneliness is tedious and frustrating.

”Well, I suppose we are in a relationship now? I hope Iʼm not being intrusive. I would like to know where my room will be? It doesnʼt need to be very spacious, just private.” She, who hasnʼt explored around out of politeness, asks with sweet gentleness.

ʼSheʼs perfect!!ʼ This is what I needed in my life! A girl who isnʼt rough like Pandora, Mesumari, and everyone I know! As incredible as it seems, finding someone gentle and polite is harder than finding cold psychopaths!! Isnʼt that something?

Itʼs so absurd that 70% of everyone Iʼve ever seen are lunatics with a few screws loose in the head!

”I have a room for you! You can also use any other room, and the things in the house! The kitchen is also always being stocked by Pandora with delicious ores and magical cores!! Not to mention my wonderful presence in the house!!” I try to be hospitable to her.

”Alright... ah, I hope you donʼt mind, but I can be a bit... strange with food. In the abyss, there wasnʼt much I could absorb, and... nearby monsters had a strange use for my scythe body,” she blushes with embarrassment.

”Donʼt worry! I wonʼt judge.”

”Perfect then. I hope we have a wonderful coexistence,” she comes over to me, lowering her head.

”Besides, you have beautiful legs,” she suddenly gives a compliment that makes me embarrassed.

”Y-You too...”

”How kind. But Violet, I see that you spend a lot of magic. That is a little sad. If you need it, I can provide you with an extra magic reserve. I have plenty anyway, and Pandora wonʼt want to use me in combat, so at least I want to help you two.”

ʼDivine... yes, this woman is divine!ʼ Her kindness really makes my heart race! Why canʼt Pandora be like this? If Pandora were as pleasant as this woman, the two of us would be incredibly close.

”Thank you! You donʼt know how much this will help me... but Blayze, why did you agree to live with me and stay with me?” I didnʼt quite understand that part.

”A blade that never breaks is fated to eternal solitude,” she says only that phrase with a sad smile as she walks away, heading to one of the rooms in the house. When she says that, the mood even becomes heavy.

ʼ...Yeah... I guess... in the end, I was lucky...ʼ I understood. A special-grade weapon, said to be unbreakable, will last forever. But since all of them have consciousness, that means eternal solitude.

However, unlike other weapons, I am connected to Pandora for eternity, so I will never truly be alone. Even when Pandora dies, I will accompany her in death, following her soul wherever she goes.

”I guess in the end, even weapons like us are affected by the prospect of being eternal... how does Pandora manage to deal with that concept so easily?” I really get curious. Pandora, who has already revealed she was once a human in the past, how can she accept eternity so easily?

ʼI wonder if... Pandora thinks of me as someone who will accompany her forever?ʼ I try not to think about it, but now I think maybe I have found another eternal companion.

”Alright! Enough thinking about that! I should choose the best ores for a meal with Blayze!!” Mesumari will be angry and jealous when we return to the planet. I hope they donʼt fight.

I really liked Mesumari, but she was bad for me, and Iʼm not someone who would let my blade lose its edge when I need to always be ready for Pandora.

ʼI wonder how Mesumari is...ʼ I will probably never be romantically involved with her again. She was my first failed love, so sheʼs still a memorable milestone in my mind.

...

...

...

”Mesumari, whatʼs wrong?” Mikael asks me while cleaning the blood from my blade, but I just stay silent.

”You havenʼt said anything since Pandora left. Did something happen? Itʼs unusual to see you quiet. Normally you enjoy our hunts together and have fun when weʼre killing strong things.” Mikael pours a kind of mermaid oil to clean the dried blood and leave the blade shining.

”Nothing to say? Weʼre a duo. Youʼve never been silent for this long. It was even annoying how you sometimes talked too much in the past, but I prefer the Mesumari who talks too much over you being quiet.”

”[Iʼm... not well, thatʼs all... Violet broke up with me...]” I speak for the first time in a long while since she left.

”Pandoraʼs sword? Ah yes, you two were having some kind of relationship.” When Mikael says that, I think about what Violet said when I proposed staying with her, connecting myself to her.

She was disappointed. She talked about how I was betraying Mikael, and thatʼs so frustrating, because on that day I lost two relationships I thought were solid.

I lost Violet, and I lost confidence in my relationship with Mikael. A traitor like me didnʼt have the right to talk to Mikael, who, despite his flaws, is a good master who fulfilled my requests and desires.

”Something else? Youʼre not the type to stay silent. If it were just this breakup, you would have come to complain to me. After all, you never stopped talking about Violet before, so youʼd talk about a breakup too.”

”Tell me, did you do something wrong?” Mikael, despite being a brute, is very perceptive. Itʼs no wonder I chose him in the past.

”[I did something wrong... but I donʼt want to talk about it.]”

”...Do what you want, but donʼt stay silent when I talk to you. Weʼre still a duo, even if you messed up.” He finishes wiping a cloth over my blade, drying it.

”[Youʼre not going to question me further?]”

”No, why would I? You are my weapon. Your blade still cuts, and as long as your blade cuts what I want to cut, Iʼll have nothing to question. Your feelings and your actions are exactly that: yours.”

”Itʼs not me who defines what you do with your life. Besides, I have a very jealous wife; I already have enough questioning from Pandora.” He lets out a laugh when he says that.

”[Youʼre lucky.]”

”Lucky? To have Pandora? If thatʼs what you mean, I guess so. Pandoraʼs cool. I canʼt say Iʼm madly in love with her, but yeah, I like her, and sheʼs crazy about me.”

”In the end, sheʼs perfect for me. She loves fights, sheʼs strong, and sheʼs a hot girl who can keep up with me in bed. Plus, sheʼs ʼfaithfulʼ as far as she can go, since sheʼs not monogamous and has several partners.”

”But she always gives me attention. In the end, I think a relationship works if the people are compatible.” When he says that, I get frustrated.

ʼ[So Iʼm the problem? Iʼm not compatible with Violet?... thatʼs... so unfair...]ʼ If even someone like Mikael found a compatible partner, what am I missing to achieve the same? And why isnʼt Violet compatible with me?

Sheʼs pretty, sheʼs my type, sheʼs fun, and sheʼs exactly the kind of girl I like. So where does the compatibility fail?

”I know you well, Mesumari, and I imagine what youʼre thinking. Do you know why I said everything I said? Because youʼre not compatible with Violet.”

”And the reason? Simple. Your attitude and behavior are bad for a girl like her. Youʼre rough, intrusive, and worse, youʼre someone who consumes everything around you.”

”Iʼm not saying thatʼs bad. You donʼt do it on purpose. But that attitude demands someone who accepts it and doesnʼt suffer from it. After all, your power is based on [Devouring] everything.”

”[Thatʼs so unfair to me...]”

”Life isnʼt fair. Get used to it and go back to being the talkative sword, Mesumari.” He stops talking, storing me back inside my home. I look at the empty ”house”—too big, but completely empty.

This place looks like a plain stretching infinitely with stone pillars. My lonely home.

”How annoying...” I mutter as I lie down on the cold floor, my angry voice echoing into nothingness.
