Reborn as a Weak Beauty Pampered by All

Chapter 773: Chapter 773: You, just act weirdly here for me!

”Mmm.”

”Why did they come to our house? Just because they wanted that spot, hoping to take the chance to leave our place. If it weren’t for your dad’s stubbornness, worried about people talking, and forbidding you, your younger brother, and Yangyang from even thinking about that spot, you might have already graduated from college by now!”

From Cai Xiufen’s words, it wasn’t hard to detect her resentment towards Captain Kang.

”What’s the big deal? As long as I have real skills and knowledge, just give me the chance to take the college entrance exam, and I guarantee I’ll get into a good university and make Mom happy.”

Kang Li spoke with a relaxed expression, her smile sweet yet rueful, but at that moment, in Cai Xiufen’s eyes, she seemed somewhat carefree and naive, prompting her to hum lightly, ”You talk as if getting into university is so easy!”

”Mom, don’t you have confidence in me, so why are you suddenly criticizing your darling daughter now?”

Feigning grievance, Kang Li pursed her lips, looking utterly heartbroken.

Cai Xiufen knew her daughter too well; she was amused by Kang Li’s obviously contrived act and couldn’t help but laugh out loud, ”You! Always playing the clown for me!”

”Am I? Am I really? Mom, don’t wrongly accuse your own daughter, please!” Blinking her beautiful foxy eyes, Kang Li looked completely innocent.

Cai Xiufen gently tapped her forehead, ”You little trickster!”

”Ah! Mom got me, but who made you love me this way?!”

Clasping her mother’s arm, Kang Li rubbed her head against Cai Xiufen’s arm, ”Mom, you shouldn’t blame Dad for that matter, after all, he is the team leader. If he really gave the spot to me or anyone else in our family, not just the educated youths at the Educated Youth Spot, but even the villagers from Aoli Village, would likely stir up quite a fuss.”

There’s an old saying: It’s not the scarcity but the uneven distribution that creates problems.

Given the limited spots at the Worker-Peasant-Soldier University, her dad, being the team leader, would certainly face many disputes if he kept the spots for his own kids.

”I didn’t ask Dad to keep the spot for our family; I’m just upset that he won’t even let you kids qualify for the recommendation.”

The educated youths and age-appropriate boys and girls in the village could participate, but only their own children were not allowed—what kind of father does that?

If they participated and failed to get enough recommendation votes to enter university, she would have nothing to say, but what was the old man’s reasoning?

Without discussion, he simply stripped his children of the eligibility to contend.

Indeed, since Aoli Village received the allocated university spots from the Commune, Captain Kang had held meetings with all the commune members and educated youths, first selecting the outstanding youths through the team leaders at the Educated Youth Spot and team officials, then letting all educated youths and commune members vote.

The final decision on who got lucky was determined by the number of votes.

As for Captain Kang’s approach, besides some from Old Kang’s family who had objections, the educated youths and commune members were all in favor of it.

Of course, some commune members felt sympathy for Captain Kang’s family, but ultimately, they were a minority.

Because people are inherently selfish; Captain Kang’s family had one of the better lives in the village, with one member an officer and another working at the County Transport Team. If they had yet another university student, wouldn’t that make everyone green with envy?

In the end, the voices pitying Kang Li and Kang Guoan, the famously studious siblings, were too faint, almost negligible, and stirred no waves.

”Oh dear, it’s all in the past now, let’s not bring it up, huh. Besides, I don’t bear a grudge against Dad, and I believe my little brother feels the same.”

Kang Li said cheerfully, comforting her mother.
