Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1478: Chapter 863: Part 2

”Mayor...”

”Come in.” Luo Feng glanced at Li Zejun, who was standing nervously at the door, and pointed to the sofa, ”Feel free to tell me, just say it. If it’s hard to talk about, then forget it, I trust your character.”

”She and I never really made any promises...” Li Zejun started speaking to himself, ”In junior high school, Miao Lihua was my desk mate. She was pretty good in her studies, but unfortunately, she underperformed in exams and didn’t get into high school or college.

After repeating a year, coincidentally, that year repeat students were banned from taking exams, so she had no choice but to give up on studying and work in the city.

During the winter holiday, I also worked and happened to be at the same restaurant as her. She took good care of me, and when the school term started, she told me she liked me.

But she had an older brother and a younger brother. Her parents had already said they would rely on the dowry money from her and her sister to marry off her three brothers. Considering my family’s situation, I rejected her.

But she kept writing to me and visiting me at school on Sundays. When I graduated, I was moved by her sincerity and agreed to be with her.

She told me not to tell anyone, including my family. She said she was afraid her family would pressure mine, and she wanted to wait until she was older to reveal it.

I disagreed at the time, feeling it was wrong to keep dragging her along, but she insisted. I had no choice but to agree with her.”

However, after working in the town for a while, her attitude completely changed. She stopped visiting, didn’t let me visit her, and at first, I thought it was to keep her family from finding out, so I went along with it.

But after a year of this, I felt something was wrong. What couple would go a full year without contact or meeting?

So I took some time to find her and ask what she meant. She told me she hadn’t made money yet, and neither had I, so she couldn’t let her family know.

Since she said that, I stopped doubting her, deciding to go along with her wishes, while also angry at myself for being unskilled.

Two years later, I was in the city for business and ran into a junior high school classmate...” At this point, Li Zejun covered his head and remained silent for quite a while before continuing, ”My classmate told me casually that Miao Lihua had become quite significant now, having connected with a boss from the south.

What he said about Miao Lihua made me angry, so I shouted at him, ’How could a classmate spread such rumors?’

My classmate was stubborn, and that night he took me to the shop Miao Lihua and the southern boss often visited. The result... Mayor, you can pretty much guess.

From then on, I lost hope. I kept my promise about the relationship and never spoke of it, and Miao Lihua and I haven’t been in contact for five whole years.

To the extent that I don’t even know when she went to Beijing. Mayor, now she comes to question me, isn’t it laughable?”

”Ah!” Luo Feng sighed, with a bitter smile, ”You’re an honest guy. All right, stop overthinking it. If Luo Feiyin misunderstands, just tell her the truth.”

”Yes, I just don’t want the Mayor to think that I’m... think that I’m dishonest.” Li Zejun let out a long sigh, ”As for Fei Ying, I trust her, she’s understanding.”

Meanwhile, Miao Lihua was sitting across from Luo Feiyin’s desk, staring at her gravely: ”Feifei, Kunzi is my man, don’t compete with me, okay?”

The two other female teachers in the office, busy grading assignments, paused their pens in unison, instantly attentive to eavesdrop.

”Miao Lihua, you...” Luo Feiyin’s face flushed with anger, ”How can you say such things?” She had returned from class to find Miao Lihua sitting across her desk. As she was classmates with Miao Lihua’s sister, Miao Qinghua, she often visited the Miao Family. Naturally, she was happy to see Miao Lihua, not expecting such a fiery statement.

Her first instinct was to take Miao Lihua outside to talk, but then she thought about it and realized it might lead to more rumors.

After all, she hadn’t done anything wrong and didn’t fear judgment. Since Miao Lihua wanted to speak, let it be in front of everyone.

She believed in the clarity of others’ judgment; surely they’d see the truth!

”Feifei, I have no choice.” Miao Lihua sighed softly, tears in her eyes, ”I’ve been with Kunzi for six years. You know my family’s situation; with Kunzi’s family background, he simply can’t meet my parents’ demands, so we’ve kept our relationship secret all along.
