Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1175 - 701: Relationship Takes a Step Forward (2)

I’m not familiar with your family, so if I’m visiting them, shouldn’t I bring a gift? Shouldn’t I change into something pretty? Shouldn’t I at least put on some proper makeup?...” Lu Qingqing shrank her neck guiltily and stopped talking. Just now she’d blurted out everything on her mind in a panic, and now that she’d calmed down, she felt a bit regretful.

”You’re right, I didn’t think it through. Keke and Ye’er never put on makeup, and they’re always quick getting out the door. I’m used to it. I’m sorry.”

Unexpectedly, Wen Su actually apologized. Lu Qingqing froze for a moment, then her eyes quickly filled with a smile: ”It’s okay, just treat me better from now on. I was scared to death, I thought once I said what I really thought, you wouldn’t want me anymore.

To tell you the truth, what I’m wearing today is actually Yao Juanjuan’s clothes. How about this: when we come back from your place and I treat Yao Juanjuan to a meal, you and my brother come along too. Who knows, maybe my brother and Juanjuan will hit it off.”

Wen Su replied perfunctorily, ”We’ll talk about it then.”

Lu Qingqing’s older brother, Lu Dongdong, was Wen Su’s classmate. They studied under the same advisor. Lu Qingqing often went over to Lu Dongdong’s to scrounge meals, and gradually she developed feelings for Wen Su.

Unfortunately, even when her intentions were obvious enough that an idiot could see them, Wen Su was still unmoved. She had no choice but to beg her brother for help.

Her brother Lu Dongdong’s nagging could definitely compete with Tang Seng. In the end, she didn’t know whether it was her brother’s nagging that worked, or her own relentless persistence, but anyway, Wen Su agreed to date her for a while and see how it went.

It’s just that from the time he agreed to ”try it” until now, more than half a year had passed, and the two of them had at most held hands, nothing more intimate. She had tried to kiss him once when she was tipsy, but unfortunately, he blocked her.

She didn’t know if she was overthinking it, but she kept feeling that this visit to the Wen Family was eight or nine parts likely to decide her fate. That cousin Ye’er definitely had the ability to influence Wen Su...

”Get in the car, what are you zoning out for?”

”Ah? Oh, oh, oh...” Snapping back to herself, Lu Qingqing hurriedly climbed into the car, unable to hold back a quiet sigh. Maybe it’d be better to make things clear sooner.

She really liked Wen Su, liked him so much she’d almost lost herself.

She got six thousand a month as pocket money, which was rare among her classmates. But every month, before it was even the end of the month, she’d be flat broke. The money, of course, all went to clothes and cosmetics. Every time she saw Wen Su, if she wasn’t wearing something different from the last time, she’d feel incredibly insecure.

Because of this, Yao Juanjuan had lectured her countless times. She herself knew her mentality was a bit off, but she just couldn’t control it.

This kind of love was very sweet, but also very exhausting.

If she lost him, she’d definitely be in pain for a long time. But rather than always living in this constant anxiety, it might be better to just rip the bandage off early. She was, after all, the precious child her parents had doted on since she was little—when had she ever been so ignored by someone?

Wen Su glanced at Lu Qingqing through the rearview mirror. ”What are you thinking about?”

”Huh?” Wen Su, who had never taken the initiative to show concern for her, suddenly threw out a question like that, and all of Lu Qingqing’s mental preparation instantly collapsed. She smiled sweetly. ”Nothing, I’m just a little nervous.”

”Ye’er is really easy to get along with, there’s nothing to be nervous about.” Wen Su smiled at her. ”As for the gift, don’t overthink it. No one in my family cares about that sort of thing.”

Lu Qingqing nodded hard. ”As long as you’re good to me, I’m not afraid of anything.”

Looking at Lu Qingqing through the mirror, Wen Su felt a bit of regret. Her earlier complaints had made him feel somewhat guilty, so he’d asked a few concerned questions. It looked like Lu Qingqing had misunderstood his intentions.

He and Lu Dongdong had been good friends from undergrad all the way to their PhDs, and it was under Lu Dongdong’s persuasion that he agreed to give it a try with Lu Qingqing for a while.

However, the two of them had a private agreement that before the relationship was fully confirmed, he couldn’t give Lu Qingqing too much hope. If it turned out that he and Lu Qingqing couldn’t be together, this misunderstanding might lead to a falling-out between him and Lu Dongdong—and that guy cherished his sister like his life... Sigh...

”Qingqing, after the New Year, I’ll definitely give you a definite answer, okay?” Wen Su said in a reminding sort of way.

Lu Qingqing’s gaze dimmed. ”It’s okay, I have time to wait. Actually, with your status, I’m already very happy that you’re willing to give it a try with me.

Before, everyone only knew that your family was very well-off, so they called you Mr. Wen, but they didn’t know you were the second young master of the Wen Family. It wasn’t until I went to your place last time that I understood why you’re so cautious.
