Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1154 - 683: Abnormal Behavior (2)

”Yeah, Captain, everything those two said is nonsense. Anyone who heard them would think we’re just a group of ordinary people on a journey. Don’t you think this makes it safer?”

”Captain, when we do the night march, as long as we’re grouped with those two, we instinctively become more vigilant. They handle the distraction, and we handle the vigilance.”

”Captain, we prefer to be grouped with those two. They’ve got endless nonsense to talk about.”

”...”

Everyone pleaded noisily.

”Hey, hey, hey, Li Jinqiang, what kind of talk is that? How can you say we always talk nonsense? If this continues, we won’t team up with you anymore.”

”Good deeds don’t get good returns, Captain, send those two back. That’s the right move.”

”Alright, regardless of your previous habits, for now, everyone shut up and speed up,” Luo Ye said, increasing his pace. Everyone quickly fell silent and sped up, genuinely respecting this young captain from the bottom of their hearts.

With his small build, handling the Big Circle and arranging the mission layout, tsk tsk...

Unlike Luo Ye’s relaxed group, Hang Menglin led her team with tense faces, determined to compete fiercely with the Third Company before the mission, not wanting to be underestimated by them.

As they got closer to the village, everyone’s breathing became a bit rapid—not to mention another reason, they’re walking too fast, exhausted.

”Alright, everyone rest here.” Hang Menglin calculated the distance and decided not to proceed.

”Captain Hang, do we really have to wait for a signal to move together?” A man in his thirties asked, unwillingly, ”Judging by the situation, those guys should be sleeping soundly. Why not take advantage and hit their base? That achievement would be enough for a second-class merit, right?”

”Song Qingping, is this your first mission?”

Under the cold moonlight, Hang Menglin’s eyes sparkled brightly as Song Qingping awkwardly lowered his head, ”Boss, I just thought about earning merit.” He muttered, retreating but couldn’t help poking a nearby man, ”Lao Miao, what do you think?”

The man called Lao Miao looked at him puzzled: ”Old Song, this is a team collaboration, not individual heroism. You’ve been on missions before, why make such a rookie mistake?”

Song Qingping pouted: ”This time is different from before, the Third Company’s guys have their eyes on the top of their heads.”

Hang Menglin stared at him for a while and said: ”What do you want to do?”

Song Qingping’s eyes lit up with joy: ”Boss, how about I scout ahead? If my guess is right, when the signal comes, I’ll act first. This way, we can take the advantage, don’t you think?”

”It will be very dangerous; don’t you know?”

”For the honor of the team, danger is nothing,” Song Qingping waved his hand vigorously, ”Even if it’s risky, earning second-class merit would be worth it.”

Hang Menglin nodded: ”Alright, go ahead.”

”Boss!” Lao Miao urgently tried to stop him, ”If anything goes wrong, it’ll be troublesome.”

”Didn’t he say it? Even if it’s risky, earning second-class merit would be worth it.” Hang Menglin looked at Song Qingping expressionlessly, ”Right?”

Song Qingping stood tall and straight, ”Please trust me, Captain, I won’t let you down.”

”Captain!”

”Captain!”

”...”

Several team members simultaneously reminded Hang Menglin.

”Go on.” Hang Menglin unfazedly waved Song Qingping away.

”Yes!”

Staring at Song Qingping’s silhouette disappearing into the distance, Hang Menglin withdrew her gaze, observed everyone’s expressions and said: ”You’re surprised by my decision, right?”

Old Song frowned: ”Captain Hang, everyone acknowledges your capability, but this particular decision, I truly can’t understand. Song Qingping’s greatest skill is his talking, but the task you gave him seems least related to talking. If anything goes wrong...”

Before Hang Menglin came, Old Song was the head of the reconnaissance team, so he was most qualified to speak at this moment.

”He will certainly encounter some issues, but I assure you, he won’t face life-threatening ones. Don’t worry.” Hang Menglin gazed at the distance with ambiguous eyes, ”Some tasks have to be done to achieve desired outcomes.”

”Captain...” Old Song’s eyes widened instantly, ”Did you discover something?”

Hang Menglin’s lips curved into a hint of a smile: ”What do you think?”

This version of Hang Menglin was never seen by him, hence after a moment of daze, Old Song came to his senses, shaking his head vigorously: ”Although he’s a bit opportunistic, not to the extent of..., that’s a capital crime, Captain, do you have proof?”

A young team member hurriedly said: ”Captain, if your guess is true, wouldn’t that play right into his hands, giving the insiders preparation?”

Hang Menglin closed her eyes and opened them again with a hint of sadness looking at the other: ”If I told you I acted under coercion, what would you think?”

”Captain Hang...”

Everyone was momentarily at a loss for words.

”I won’t tarnish our team’s reputation, rest assured, I was joking earlier. Trust me, this decision is the best and most correct one.” Hang Menglin smiled calmly, ”Think about my past performance; you should trust me.”

Old Song looked seriously at Hang Menglin: ”Captain, no matter what happens, we’re always your brothers back-to-back!”

”Thanks!” Hang Menglin firmly patted his shoulder, ”With you brothers, we can handle anything.”

Stayed up late yesterday, won’t stay up late today. Tomorrow’s first watch will be before 5 PM, perhaps even earlier. Due to some matters, I can’t confirm the exact time, but I assure it won’t be as late as today. (To be continued.
