She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 1136: Chapter 1199: Helping with the Search

”How is Uncle doing?”

Su Huai’an shook his head, ”Still no news. It’s predicted he parachuted early, but the search area is too vast. Once it goes beyond seventy-two hours, it becomes very difficult to find him.”

It’s not that he’s giving up easily; it’s that he is rational enough. His rich knowledge and experience allow him to calmly assess the situation.

”Don’t worry! Uncle has extensive combat experience, he will be fine.”

”Yes! That’s our only hope at the moment.”

While they were talking, the doctor hurriedly came out from inside, ”Professor Su, I suggest you call Vice Chairman Su back! The old man can’t hold on much longer.”

There’s a tradition when an elderly passes; having the children and grandchildren by the bedside is a show of filial piety. If the eldest son can’t return, at least the younger son and grandson should be by the bedside.

Otherwise, the old man won’t leave in peace.

Su Huai’an rushed back just to avoid missing the old man’s final moments.

”...Alright!” Su Huai’an got up and went inside to make a call.

Sheng Ning squatted on the ground alone, her legs numb but unwilling to stand up. An’an gently tapped her, whispering, ”Sis, why don’t you get up?”

”I’m thinking about something. Where’s Grandpa Hai?”

”He went home. The old man was too annoying, kept talking and talking. I said I was thirsty, so I took him home.” Despite An’an’s complaints, being willing to take the old man home was a big step forward.

Sheng Ning could imagine the old man’s face breaking into a smile.

”What are you thinking about?” An’an sat where Su Huai’an had squatted earlier, not caring about the dust on the ground, ”Is there anything I can help you with?”

”I’m thinking about how useless I am. Unable to help Grandfather with his treatments, and now I can’t even find Uncle.” It was the first time Sheng Ning felt like such a failure.

”I... maybe I can help you find Uncle’s approximate landing spot.” An’an’s eyes flashed with a glimmer of hope. ”I heard Uncle parachuted, but no one knows where he landed. The search area and difficulty have kept him from being found?”

”Yes, you can really find him?” Sheng Ning stood up excitedly, her numb legs making her stumble. ”An’an, you’re not lying to me? You can actually find him?”

An’an pointed to her own head, ”I’m not as dumb as you guys.”

”An’an, you’re not cute at all like this.”

”Heh... Only kids are cute. Why should adults be cute?”

”But you were always so cute before!” Sheng Ning affectionately ruffled her hair, ”Didn’t the Little Hooligan get infatuated with your cuteness?”

A complex emotion flickered in An’an’s dark eyes, one even she couldn’t understand, ”Little Hooligan... don’t mention him.”

”Oh!” Sheng Ning obediently kept silent.

Since recovering her memory, An’an and Qin Yue could never go back to how they were before.

Sheng Ning pulled An’an along to find Su Huai’an, explaining An’an’s ability to find Uncle. Initially, Su Huai’an was incredulous. But then he remembered An’an’s performance at the National Security University, his face lit up with joy.

”An’an, I’m counting on you for my father.”

”We’ll talk when we find him.”

”Let’s go now.” Su Huai’an pulled An’an and they started walking out. Halfway there, he stopped and said, ”When Uncle comes back, tell him to stay put and not leave. We’ll be back soon.”

”Alright.”
