She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 1108: Chapter 1171: Choosing Sides

“Sister…” This time Hai Shen was really on the verge of tears, “Sister, I was wrong! Can you forgive me, give me a chance to make amends?”

“There’s no such thing as forgiving or not forgiving.” An’an analyzed matter-of-factly, “This matter has little to do with you, you just need to choose which side you’re on.”

“I choose, I choose to be on sister’s side.” Hai Shen said hastily, almost raising his hand to swear.

An’an gave him an approving look, “I used to think you were pretty stupid, but now it seems you have a bit of common sense.”

“Thank you for the praise, sister.” Hai Shen finally showed his first smile since he came in, having prepared himself mentally for various outcomes before coming, including being kicked out or being cold-shouldered.

He never expected that his aunt would be so kind to him, and his sister was just like she was when they were younger. Especially the look she gave him, bluntly expressing the sentiment ‘Are you really this stupid?’

He missed that feeling especially.

“Do you know what to do after picking sides?”

“Please instruct me, sister.” Hai Shen bowed earnestly, “Sister, your orders.”

“Picking sides certainly requires a pledge of loyalty. Your pledge of loyalty is Hai Lan.” An’an dropped her casual demeanor; her jet-black eyes seemed to twinkle with starlight, capturing one’s soul if they weren’t careful.

“She’s enjoyed the reputation, power, and status of the Hai Family’s Miss for years; she must pay the price, right? She wanted to kill me and my sister wholeheartedly, she should be punished for that. Otherwise, wouldn’t it show that I’m ineffectual?”

Hai Shen shivered internally, nodded his head, even though his sister didn’t say it, he knew what to do. Although Father acted yesterday, that had nothing to do with him.

“I know Hai Yunfeng already acted, but he’s useless; Hai Lan is at most a beggar now. That’s not what I want to see.” An’an shook her head; her ability to analyze things meticulously from home made Hai Shen take notice.

No wonder Grandfather was willing to nurture her instead of his own grandson.

She was too suitable to be the head of the family; compared to her, he might be far more lacking.

An’an took a sip of her floral tea and said slowly, “I think living as a beggar is not easy, often unable to get food. Generally, the more pitiful, the more they receive, don’t you think?”

Hai Shen nodded, receiving another approving look from his sister.

“So, if her legs are broken and she can only crawl on the ground to beg, would she receive more? I think this is the only way to glorify the Beggar Gang.”

Hai Shen bit his lip and nodded, “Alright! Sister, rest assured, I’ll get someone to do it immediately!”

“Thank you for your effort!”

“Sister, it’s what I should do, not tiring at all.” Hai Shen said pleasingly.

An’an glanced at him sidelong, giving him another ‘you’re truly foolish’ look, “Since you know it’s what you should do, then you should’ve done it before coming to see me. How could you come empty-handed, not even knowing to bring something for me? Even visiting a regular friend’s home, you shouldn’t come empty-handed!”

Hai Shen was speechless, “Sister, I was wrong, I am indeed too foolish.”

Sister wasn’t wrong! Her words were very logical. Clearly knowing Hai Lan maliciously framed sister, resulting in her being taken by the union, not only imprisoned but also tortured, yet he did nothing and just came like this.
