She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 857: Chapter 898: Not Taking the Blame

“Sister-in-law, how’s our captain? Is he recovering well?”

“When can we go see the captain?”

“…” The crowd was chattering nonstop, even more enthusiastic than at the General Union. Sheng Ning’s bag got squeezed off her shoulder, and she was overwhelmed by their enthusiasm.

“Don’t push, don’t push, the captain is fine,” Sheng Ning shouted loudly, but this only led to more questions. Some were so bewildering that she didn’t know how to respond.

Suddenly, a familiar thunderous voice erupted from the crowd, “Aren’t you all supposed to be training? What are you doing here crowding around?”

“It’s the First Squad Captain.”

“The Second Squad Captain is here too, oh my! And the Third Squad Captain.”

“Are you blind? Didn’t you see Director standing in the back?”

“You’re the blind one! Didn’t you notice how gloomy Director Shangguan’s face is?”

“Let’s get out of here.”

“Hurry up, let’s go.”

“Oh my…”

The crowd dispersed instantly, leaving a vacuum around Sheng Ning. Shangguan Tao and others, who were previously outside, immediately emerged.

With a friendly smile, Zhou Hong walked up to Sheng Ning and picked up her bag. “Sister-in-law, are you okay?”

“I’m fine, I’m fine, thank you!” Sheng Ning accepted the bag and couldn’t help but laugh at the look of green in their eyes. They scared everyone away, yet their goal was the same. With the dean’s new policy, the Main Hospital’s doors probably won’t dare to open for the War Wolf Rescue Team in the future. She really worried that someone might go and try to smash the hospital doors tonight.

Actually, smashing the hospital door wasn’t the main issue; the real concern was making sure no one smashed the dean’s door at home, or else she’d be in big trouble.

Zhou Hong, sly as always, said with a carefree tone, “Sister-in-law, Guo Siming just got beaten up so badly by everyone that he can’t get out of bed.”

“Huh?” Sheng Ning didn’t understand. What does this have to do with Guo Siming?

Zhou Hong slapped his forehead, “Look at my memory. The elder sister-in-law probably doesn’t know yet. Guo Siming is Dean Guo’s son, his only biological son.”

Sheng Ning was dumbfounded, silently sympathizing with Guo Siming for three seconds. This must be what they call a son paying for the sins of the father. Compared to smashing the hospital doors or Dean Guo’s house, beating his son was more satisfying and convenient, and importantly, wouldn’t lead to punishment.

Clever, truly clever.

“Sister-in-law, we just want to see the captain and find out how he’s recovering, and when he might be back.”

“Sister-in-law, your timing is perfect. We were about to line up yesterday to see the captain. But then Guo Siming’s dad didn’t allow us to visit, and he specifically barred us, the War Wolf Rescue Team, from visiting. Isn’t this discrimination? So, we beat up his son,” Wu Houhai said with an earnest expression.

Sheng Ning’s mouth twitched, feeling compelled to say a few good words for Dean Guo. “Actually, it’s not Dean Guo’s fault. The day before yesterday, Chairman Shen brought a group to visit him. They even smoked in the ward, which would’ve been bad enough, but they also let your captain smoke.” Sheng Ning got more outraged as she spoke, putting all the blame squarely on Shen Feihu.

“Your captain’s injury is so severe, with one bullet having passed through his lung. The doctor recommended he never smoke again in his lifetime, and here he was smoking even before he was out of danger. It’s just too much.”

“So Dean Guo did the right thing,” Sheng Ning nodded like she was summarizing. “If not for Chairman Shen, how could you all not be allowed to visit? If you’re going to blame someone, blame Chairman Shen.”

Everyone looked bewildered. This… well damn, smoking didn’t seem wrong at all!
