Bear School Astartes

The orders were conveyed through the horn.

Immediately, Lann, standing on the rooftop, saw a row of torches crowded on the drawbridge at the gate of Long Lake Town, advancing forward.

The wooden drawbridge creaked underfoot.

Meanwhile, near the sluice gates around Long Lake Town, giant, fierce creatures began to emerge from the lake water.

With mouths that could bite off half a person’s body, massive muscles, and sturdy teeth, they began gnawing at the sluice gates of Long Lake Town.

The iron fences, soaked in the lake for countless years and blocking numerous pieces of debris and ice, couldn’t withstand the wargs’ mouths for long!

The beastmen, already stationed outside, confirmed there were dwarves and ’wizards’ within and immediately executed their plan — to massacre everyone in Long Lake Town, leaving none alive.

But they completely misunderstood one thing... Lann is not a ’wizard.’

”Snap!”

A sound like glass shattering echoed on the rooftop; it was the beastmen’s arrows hitting Lann’s [Quen Rune], producing the sound of chaos magic shield fragmentation.

However, whether in terms of chaos magic reserves or magic seal strength, Lann had evolved beyond the level of the demon hunter of yore.

No less than twenty beastmen were shooting at him, but the demon hunter stood as if behind solid cover, unperturbed and without dodging.

Only after enduring about two volleys did the protective shield completely shatter.

Yet, in less than a breath, the shield was restored completely after slightly twisting to dodge the arrows during the brief gap.

Lann raised his left hand, letting the mechanism engage, and the projector fired.

The beastmen were dispersed, with their main defense coming from the low-quality armor, making it unworthy for Lann to employ his heavy crossbow cannon [Roar of the Roaring Dragon] against them.

After all, the usual ammunition required for firing the heavy crossbow is limited.

Nonetheless, this shootout far exceeded the beastmen’s tolerance.

Facing a fearsomely accurate sniper with cover, such psychological pressure was not something ordinary beastmen could handle.

”Can’t hit! We’re shooting...”

’Bang,’ a beastman had just poked his head over the rooftop in haste and fired without aiming, yet before he could fully retract his head, his skullcap was blown off.

A gush of blood and the limp body crashed onto the roof tiles.

Beside him, another beastman who’d prepared an arrow on his bow gulped hard, looking in horror at his headless comrade, unable to muster the courage to expose himself.

But staying hidden also meant death.

”Whoosh, whoosh!”

Two agile figures lightly swept across the varied heights of Long Lake Town’s rooftops, releasing arrows that descended from the sky during mid-air, piercing the beastmen’s necks and pinning them to the roof.

This was a distinct style compared to the demon hunter’s [Quen Rune], targeting anyone exposed with instant shots.

They flitted like drifting leaves, firing piercing arrows from unimaginable angles with skillful agility.

”Good to see you here to help, elves. But is it just the two of you?”

Lann ceased his left hand’s projector, turned and plunged the Lady of the Lake’s Sword down into a beastman’s skull stealthily approaching.

The blade tip entered through the skullcap, piercing out from the jaw.

He then twisted his wrist, extracting the long blade while flinging the beastman’s corpse into the waterway.

”Apologies, not reinforcements. We didn’t expect so many beastmen here! Such audacious action!”

Tauriel leaped gracefully, releasing three arrows in mid-air to pin down three beastmen, calmly responding to Lann.

Long Lake Town lay far northward, enduring constant cold and snowy winters.

To prevent snow from collapsing the fragile wooden roofs, the houses here had steep slopes, allowing snow to slide down automatically when accumulated sufficiently, dropping into the waterway.

But these steep slopes also provided ample cover, and the blood mixing with the roof tiles made them wet and slippery.

However, these conditions didn’t limit the elves and Lann.

Legolas could even play tricks with his bow and arrows during shooting and moving intervals.

Lann suspected he might be an archer capable of agile melee with his bow and arrows.

”Seems your shooting skills are commendable, might I know your name?”

Legolas strangled a nearby beastman with his bowstring while asking the demon hunter.

”Lann, at your service.”

”Well then, Lann, do you have a plan now?”

”I arrived in town just this day.” Lann cut a beastman in half at the waist. ”I didn’t have time to mobilize the town’s arms. But these beastmen came prepared.”

Indeed, beastmen poured in from all directions, all within their striking range.

”They have a commander!” Legolas’s tone revealed concern, ”A commander able to command with such authority! This is very unusual!”

”Regardless, the townsfolk have mostly gathered in the square in front of the mayor’s residence now.”

Lann shook his head, calling out to the elves who continued darting and shooting on the rooftop.
