Genetic Ascension

Chapter 2223: Ten

”You want me to go with you?” Magnus glanced at Sylas with a real look of surprise in his eyes.

Honestly, he was happy. But this grandson of his was truly unpredictable. This seemed like a sort of situation where Sylas might want to go and check things out for himself first, and then bring him along later on.

Others might not see it, but Magnus had realized that Sylas was only getting more and more protective of everyone, especially after what happened with Nosphaleen.

But maybe due to the fact his parents and many others had been snatched up from right under his nose, he had already given up on the idea that just leaving people on Earth would be safe.

The formation the First Race had left behind was designed to deal with the strengths of the Mortal Realm. Though it was still an exceptionally powerful formation on the Demi-God Plane as well, there were just certain methods and quirks that it couldnʼt account for.

No matter how mysterious and awesome the First Race of Earth was, they were still an existence that had accomplished all of these things during their Summoning. There was only so much they could grow.

Maybe this would mean that Sylas would take them around with him more often now. Doing this, and ensuring their strengths continued to grow was about the only way he could make certain they would not only live long lives, but do so safely as well.

”Yes.” Sylas nodded.

”I would love to. But your wives, who will protect them? Will they give birth before we are back?” Magnus said with a hint of worry.

Sylas didnʼt correct his grandfather on the Duchessʼ status to his life. He wasnʼt very fond of correcting his parents and grandfather, he rarely if ever did it.

But he also felt that sometimes they did things like this on purpose just to get him to change his mind toward certain things. In this matter, though, he was helpless. That was all Cassaraeʼs decision.

”I donʼt plan to be gone for that long. And should this matter be what I think it is, you will be able to freely enter and leave as you please.”

Magnus nodded slowly.

”We will leave Earth to trigger the key,” Sylas continued. ”I donʼt want them to know where we originate from.”

How would one describe a land of mystery? Maybe a floating city amongst the clouds? A dense fog so ubiquitous it hid even your next steps? Maybe it would be unrecognizable patterns that hung in the skies like a house of mirrors, or broken geography that bent the mind? Waterfalls that flowed in reverse, valleys in the shape of mountains, oceans made of pearls and land as fluid as clouds?

The world of Rune Masters followed no rules but what their own imaginations could craft. No matter where you looked, there was a different, mind bending reality to examine and attempt to understand.

Those with weak Wills and pitiful comprehension skills discovered their minds broken upon taking just a few steps. Fools who overestimated themselves never made it far at all.

But the number who could was surprisingly more than one might expect. And today, for whatever reason there might be, there was an even larger number than usual.

High in the skies, the only consistent feature of the World of Rune Masters were bronze picture frames that layered over one another, sometimes straight, sometimes at a diagonal, forming what were almost complex four dimensional cubes every time one squinted up at the multi-formed stars above.

From time to time, a Rune Master dressed in starry robes would stop in the middle of the road, staring up at one of these odd omnitrix cubes and then suddenly vanish. Then, heʼd receive a look of envy from those around him who would then go on about their business as though nothing at all had happened.

But then a particularly big commotion rocked the land.

A large number of gazes shifted over and an entourage of young men and women stepped out. Contrary to the usual belief, there were actually more women in this group than men. In fact, there were seven of them to just three men.

They might have been in the same cohort, but a single glance would have told anyone that they came from different families.

Half of them were Thryskai, their wings standing out prominently even with their adorned robes, the wrinkles in the middle of their eyes spilling out a tiny fragment of light that almost made it look like there was a holy, vertical line right in the middle of their foreheads.

The women were especially gorgeous, the men especially mysterious.

However, there was then the other half of them. They, too, could fit this latter description, but they were certainly not Thryskai.

This other half took up three of the women and one of the men.

One of them had a blazing halo of flames dancing above her head, a flaming, puffy tail following after her swaying hips.

Another had rainbow scales on the back of her hands and long, blue nails that were too polished and rounded to be claws, and too natural to be just an aesthetic.

The last of the non-Thryskai women had black lips and no whites in her eyes. Her skin was pale to the point tiny capillaries of greenish blue veins were visible from beneath. But more interesting than any of that… were the two mouths on the palms of her hands.

The man looked the most ”normal” and unadorned of them all, simply and perfectly human.

This human, though… had pink hair and eyes… and a pair of pretty pink wings on the back of both of his ankles.

All of these youths had one thing in common, though, they all wore robes that followed a very particular pattern. Some of them had mountains, some had clouds, and the last had swirling lines of ocean currents. But regardless of what the foundation was, the recurrence of the pattern was the same.

Everyone who saw them knew exactly what these patterns meant.

These 10 were the 10 strongest C-tier Rune Masters of the Skai Heavenʼs Demi-God Plane.
