Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1501 True

The first thing he realized was that this person was almost certainly the second Primus imperium. The problem with that was that Sylas recognized this person. He was under his charge, a supposed member of the Milky Way Horizon.

This person had already lost to him. How could he be a Primus Imperium after giving up? One might say that this was because he was completely confident in Sylasʼ loss should he accept the challenge, but it had to be remembered how vindictive the system was. Not only did it not allow you to intentionally avoid a challenge, it also didnʼt allow you to escape one right in front of you even if your intention wasnʼt to avoid.

This meant one of two things, both of which led to the same exact deduction.

Madness Disciple.

Sylas looked down at his Madness Key. It was supposed to tell him when a Madness Disciple was close by—that was the very first thing he had learned about it. So why hadnʼt it alerted him this time?

Unless... it would only point out nearby Gluttony Disciples?

This would make sense. After all, he was technically in competition with every other Gluttony Disciple in existence for the spot of True Disciple. It would make sense for the Madness Key to pit them against him.

Even so, that didnʼt explain how they had managed to avoid the ire of the system.

It was either that this personʼs Scorned Wraps had evolved so far that their ability to manipulate the system was beyond Sylasʼ understanding, or... “Their Seed.

Sylasʼ gaze flashed with his final realization.

True Sloth Disciple.

He was certain. He had never met one before, and he had no idea what they should feel like, but he trusted his own deductions.

The only type of existence that could have their intent tied so well with their laziness— and be rewarded instead of punished for their laziness—was the Sloth Disciple.

There was no other potential answer.

And it was then Sylas felt the waves of fatigue slamming against his Will. They nibbled away at the edges, gnawing at him as though they wanted him to pass out right there. They whispered into his ears, asking him why he was trying so hard, why he had to push himself so far, why he didnʼt just take a rest after so long.

How long had he spent, jumping from one dangerous situation to the next? When was the last time he had a break that didnʼt involve burning his brain to the ground in some vain attempt to comprehend and grasp more?

Did he even know how to relax? Why didnʼt he?

”Pathetic.”

The words came from Sylasʼ mouth, his gaze unmoved.

His assessment wasnʼt for himself, but rather for the Sloth. It was the one Seed he had always felt the absolute furthest from. He could barely sense it at all, so much so that he couldnʼt even recognize the aura when it was right in front of him.

If not for his deductions, he wouldnʼt even know who this person was.

Maybe in this entire world, there was no existence more antithetical to himself than this man standing across from him.

The cloaked man yawned.

Even now, Sylas couldnʼt see his face, but the movement of his head revealed a flashing set of teeth. They were mostly healthy... except for the bits of greens and meat lodged in a few of their crevices. One could imagine that if not for how perfect this manʼs Genes were, they would certainly be rotting and more than a little yellowed by now.

”We could do this the easy way, you know. Thereʼs really no need for us to fight. You could just leave and pretend you didnʼt see anything here. Iʼll even help you hide from the systemʼs eyes. Thatʼs a good deal, donʼt you think?”

Sylas looked down at his hand. Wrapping a palm around his wrist, he stretched it and listened to it satisfyingly crack.

He knew there was still something else he was missing here. This person was simply too mysterious.

However, there was one thing he did know for certain, and that was that he had no intention of leaving this place.

The obelisk was here.

The final piece of the Reaper Sealwright Profession was here.

And... there was stil a lingering thought in the back of his head, something deeper related to all of this that just might be here as well. He hadnʼt forgotten that peculiar feeling he had gotten at the entrance.

He wouldnʼt let anyone stand in his way.

Not even an F-tier whose stats he couldnʼt read.

The True Sloth Disciple sighed.

I heard that Pride Disciples were annoying, but personally witnessing it is truly something else.”

Yawning again, the young man stretched, bending his back and leaning so far it seemed lie he might topple over any moment now.

”Just go to sleep.”

His words slurred and Sylasʼ sight seemed to blur in return. However, just as easily, Sylas snapped out of it.

The moment he did, he found that the True Sloth Disciple was already in front of him. However, even as the overwhelming Will bombarded into Sylas in continuous waves, Sylas himself remained unmoved.

If this Madness Disciple wanted to defeat him, he was going to have to do it the hard way.

In a contest of Wills, Sylas didnʼt plan on allowing his own to break.

Madness.

His Comprehension bloomed.

There was a rush of blooming might and suddenly the image of the True Sloth Disciple shattered. The figure that had just been right in front of Sylas vanished, and it looked as though the original had never moved.

The True Sloth Disciple stood there in silence, blinking. It was clear he didnʼt expect Sylasʼ Madness Comprehension to be this powerful. This was no normal Madness Comprehension.

Since when were Pride Disciples so self-reflective?

”You arenʼt a Pride Disciple. Youʼre just like me. Youʼre a True Pride Disciple.”

The words of the True Sloth Disciple seemed just the slightest bit less slurred, as though he was slowly waking up.
