Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1414: He

[Bonus chapter thanks to Lost917.... even with my birthday being in 40 minutes, it seems youʼre all unwilling to give me a break. Chrono knew this btw, and the bastard still fucked me. Now here comes Lost T-T ... ] Sylas walked out of his room, his gaze going back to the planet swirling with darkness down below.

This time, he had only helped Nosphaleen. The Hollow Wing didnʼt need such help; its stats scaled based on his own, so all it needed to do was level up and unlock more of its abilities.

Unfortunately, the Hollow Wing only seemed to level up by killing Demons.

Fortunately, though, Sylas was going to have plenty of those targets very soon.

As for Gogo… his situation was more complex. Sylas didnʼt have a convenient Armor for him to use, and Gogo was a full-on beast. From what Sylas could tell, beasts couldnʼt be Rune Masters.

Nosphaleen was still a humanoid for the most part and had the Will of a humanoid, so it was still possible.

But Gogo was a Basilisk King by birth, and though he had access to telekinetic ability, weaving Runes didnʼt seem possible.

Honestly, Sylas hadnʼt really understood why this was until he took a deeper look and really meditated on Intuition.

Beasts seemed to have a special role carved out by the system. Not many of them were Overlords to begin with, but they seemed more capable of advancing than humanoids who werenʼt Overlords.

The humanoids that improved without the system usually did so off the backs of the Overlords around them, using items and various resources they gathered, and often paying ridiculous sums of money to make up the gaps.

Beasts, however… they seemed to be far more independent and didnʼt have such societal structures, but they managed to improve nonetheless.

Some of them even managed to become Kings, powerful beasts with crowns that were far more powerful than their humanoid counterparts.

Sylas had been forced to fight more than one such creature, and outside of a Summoned World, they were even more powerful.

It seemed that the tradeoff for being more in tune with nature and having more natural paths of evolution and progress came with a weaker ability to actually impose your Will onto the world.

However… what was interesting about that conclusion was the vision of Gogoʼs ancestor he had seen.

Imposing their Will onto the world seemed like something that the Basilisks, at least, had once been capable of. But now… Sylasʼ eyes flickered, lost in thoughts as he came to stand in the middle of the ship, the glass wall holding Andromeda as his backdrop, its metallic parts and various wires and steel tubes giving the atmosphere a particularly futuristic taste.

”How much longer?” Sylas asked.

”According to the queue, thereʼs just one more—” Alexʼs voice cut off. ”—Oh, they seemed to have quit for some reason. Itʼs our turn—well, your turn now.”

Sylas frowned.

Quit? That didnʼt sound quite right. He looked out into space. He couldnʼt quite see the ships, as their concealment was quite good, but they still appeared on the radar.

People came from across Sectors, some across half a dozen or more of them, just for this Dungeon.

Of course, maybe they had a whole course of them to go through, but even so, the cost was heavy, and the time sink even more so. No one would just randomly quit for no reason.

”Nothing happened while I was away?”

”Not that we can tell.”

Sylas looked over to Brama to confirm, but he too shook his head.

For a while, Sylas stood there. But he eventually shook his head.

”Iʼm going.”

”Donʼt die,” Alex said with a grin.

Sylas didnʼt respond.

…

”Heʼs going.”

”Who the hell is he?”

”I already told you, Sylas Grimblade.”

The young manʼs little sister grumbled. ”We spent so long waiting, and now weʼre at the back of the queue again all because of you.”

”I want to see this, though.”

”What do you mean see? Weʼre not going to see anything—we could have just gone first and then watched absolutely nothing after!”

”Yeah, but then it wouldnʼt be fair, now would it?”

”Whatʼs that supposed to mean?”

”Well, if I donʼt leave him any clues, it wouldnʼt be a level playing field. I hear heʼs likely the Dominus Paragon of this Sector. But even a Dominus Paragon will be helpless if he doesnʼt even have a little information to work with. Where would the fun in that be?”

”If he was a real Dominus Paragon, he wouldnʼt need a clue in the first place.” She grumbled again.

”Hush. Letʼs watch the—”

The young man blinked.

”What is it?”

”Heʼs entering alone.”

This time, the young woman sat up, her neck snapping toward the Dungeon just in time to see a singular figure flashing in.

She wasnʼt the only one to notice this oddity, and neither was he. In fact, all of the ships in the surroundings took note of this.

However, unlike this brother-sister pair, they didnʼt know that Sylas was a person of this Sector. Instead, they began to wrack their brains, trying to figure out which Sector had a Human Race Clan powerful enough to send such a young man.

”…Originally, I just wanted the Primus Imperium Conquest Title. But this… this is interesting…” The eyes of the young man narrowed.

If Sylas was truly capable of clearing this Dungeon alone, he wasnʼt just a powerful F-tier of this Sector—he would probably be the most powerful F-tier in their Sector as well, even if it wasnʼt by a large enough margin to earn the Primus Imperium Conquest Title there too.

”Letʼs wait to see if he actually comes out first, then…” he said slowly.

**

Sylasʼ eyes flashed.

It had been quite a while since he was in a Dungeon. Well, a real Dungeon—unlike the one in the Golden Grove that was more of a mutated mess mimicking the real world.

However, even so, this was unlike any Dungeon he had ever been in.

The moment he stepped in, he found dense black waters pouring out of the greyed, rough ceilings above his head, falling in an avalanche and carrying a weight to them that made it feel as though meteors were crashing down.

In a single instant of time, every bone in Sylasʼ body shattered.

The Dungeon had a recommended entry of 15,000 Physical. Why would he be able to withstand even a casual attack from it from a mere 799 Physical?

Sylas was expecting an army of undead Demons, but it seemed the description was being quite literal when it mentioned the blackened waters of time.

His cough of blood was lost in the endless stream.
