Genetic Ascension

Chapter 575: Unfair (2)

Sylasʼ gaze flickered, his heart skipping a beat.

At that moment, he immediately felt like something had gone terribly wrong. And soon, he was proven correct.

[Your Territory, , has been Corrupted]

[Demon Aether concentration has risen above allowed limit]

[Gate to Demon World has been opened]

-

[Warlord Quest Triggered]

[Warlord Quest Received]

[Woodlandʼs Demon Gate (Warlord Quest) (???)]

[The battle of Worlds and Demons has been waged for generations. A Spawn of a Demon has appeared in your Territory and has established a Demon Gate. Lead this crusade against the enemies of humanity. Protect your Territory from its invaders]

Sylas looked up into the air to find that it wasnʼt just the Aether, but the very Runes that were different. There was a flood of a Rune system that he had never seen before, and that his Rune Mastery didnʼt quite seem to be very effective against.

In that moment, it felt as though his Rune control had been suppressed by at least half as Runes that refused to listen to his call became a larger and larger piece of the puzzle.

Just as Sylas was trying to figure out exactly what was going on, Moose unleashed a howl, and a ghostly hand ripped out from his chest.

The hand seemed more illusory than it was real, and yet not only did Sylas still quickly jump away from it, Mooseʼs chest exploded into a rain of blood.

More hands began to explode out from Mooseʼs body, and the last look he gave Sylas seemed to be one of reluctant subterfuge.

He would rather take everyone down with him than fall so silently.

BANG!

Mooseʼs body collapsed into a pile of blood, and soon the bear demons near him suffered the same fate.

Neither one even had the slightest bit of flesh and bone remaining, almost as though they had always been pools of blood rather than living beings.

Sylas stood in silence for a long while before a pillar caught his attention in the far-off distance.

ʼThatʼs probably where it is...ʼ

He inwardly shook his head.

This Quest didnʼt seem to have any rewards. The fact it was tagged as a Warlord Quest likely meant that it fit into his responsibilities as the head of this Territory, and the system felt no need to give him extra benefits for doing what he was supposed to do.

The benefit itself was having the Territory. It seemed that this time he was just truly unlucky. The good news was that the system was unlikely to target him while this was ongoing.

The bad news was that the system would certainly punish him for failing to clear the Quest.

But the main issue was that...

He didnʼt have a solution.

He was a Warlord only in name. The only army he could take command of was the System Cityʼs army, and he was doubtful that their numbers would be enough.

If even the ten-thousand-strong army of the System City wasnʼt enough, then Sylas alone certainly wouldnʼt be.

This was the sort of challenge that should only appear when a Territory was truly established.

Even if Sylas had been doing his best to build a cohesive government all this time, he would still not have had enough time.

Let alone when he had made no such effort at all.

Sylas took a breath and then exhaled.

It seemed that he would likely have no choice but to abandon this Territory. It was a shame. He felt like he had made great progress here.

However, before he made such a decision, he would definitely have to check the Demon Gate out first.

[How do you close a Demon Gate?]

-

[Destroy the Demon Shrines connecting both Worlds]

It was a rare, simple, and straightforward answer from the Madness Key.

Sylas casually waved a hand, and Braxwell and Shah were shredded to pieces by their own weapons.

Right now, he didnʼt have the time to deal with them.

With another wave of his hand, the peacock appeared again, and they shot into the skies.

...

The Demon Gate.

A spiraling swirl of black, violet, and dark silvers formed the pillar that rose into the skies.

There was no flood of Demons that came out just yet. However...

The bear demons of the city seemed to have completely lost their minds.

They howled into the skies like werewolves, their bodies morphing, growing larger and more

substantial.

Their Levels began to increase by leaps and bounds.

Before, the weakest of them werenʼt even Level 10, while the strongest were only just barely

Level 20.

But soon, that flipped.

Even the weakest of them soared past Level 20, while the strongest began to knock on the

door of Level 30.

BOOM! BOOM!

Two bear demons did exactly that.

Their bodies grew to over three meters tall, their backs rounding into grotesque humps of

hairy flesh.

They became less and less human-like, and far more demonic. Their auras growing darker, their claws growing to the length of short swords, and their explosive power causing deep dents in the soft soil.

Ragnar, who had been in the not-too-far-off distance from this city, was taken aback by what

he was seeing.

But soon, there was also a light of ambition and anticipation in his eyes.

This was something that he had simply never heard of before. At the very least, it hadnʼt

happened so soon.

This was a chance, an opportunity, a light at the end of his tunnel-

PUCHI!

A blade ripped through Ragnarʼs chest and he froze.

He looked down in horror to find a black blade ripping through him...

Or so it seemed to be a black blade.

In reality, it was a claw, several of them. His vision had just already begun to blur so terribly

that it looked like one.

He couldnʼt believe it.

Was he really... going to die like this? In a nameless corner of the forest, with no one to

witness it, without even the chance to fight back?

It... wasnʼt fair...

These were Ragnar Ravenclawʼs last thoughts before his consciousness faded.
