Chapter 2815: Chapter 2815: Realise They Are The Ones Who Steal The Ancient Tree

“It was you… You two were the ones in the chamber who stole the ancient tree!” Professor Shen pointed a wildly trembling finger at Yu Qi, his voice shaking.

He was utterly speechless. These two thieves were shockingly bold, choosing to linger right inside his office instead of fleeing the facility!

“Yes, it was us. So what? There is nothing you can do about it.” Yu Qi chuckled softly, enjoying his helplessness.

“You…!” Professor Shen gritted his teeth, his face flushing with humiliation.

This woman was blatantly mocking him in his own sanctuary!

“Let’s bring the focus back to my questions, shall we? You had better answer them truthfully.” Yu Qi repeated, her tone dropping into a dangerous key. “What is Project Origin truly about? What were you extracting from that tree? And what is sealed behind that second door?”

Professor Shen’s breath hitched in his throat. Hearing the classified title ‘Project Origin’ coming from a stranger’s mouth terrified him far more than the physical break-in itself.

“I… I have no idea what you are talking about! I am merely an administrative scientist hired to manage facility operations…” Professor Shen attempted to play dumb and deny his core involvement.

“Professor Shen!” Yu Qi cut him off sharply, her eyes narrowing into dangerous, icy slits. “We already know you have been harvesting high-density spiritual energy from that tree to conduct illegal human experiments. We also know that your personal personnel files were deliberately wiped clean from the inside, and that Master Liang is working hand-in-glove with your upper management.”

She took another slow step forward, resting her delicate, gloved hand onto the edge of his desk, leaning in slightly.

“If you cooperate fully and lay out everything you know regarding Master Liang’s ultimate motives and whatever is locked inside that inner vault, we might consider letting you leave this room with your life. But if you insist on playing foolish…” Yu Qi let out a low, melodious laugh that sent icy shivers straight down the professor’s spine. “…I promise you, Master Liang would not be the only monster you need to fear.”

Professor Shen looked back and forth between Yu Qi’s terrifyingly sweet smile and Long Hui’s suffocating, deadly aura. He swallowed heavily, realising with absolute clarity that he had been backed into a dead end with zero chance of escape.

“I… I… I can’t.” Professor Shen stammered, frantically shaking his head in refusal.

Having worked alongside Master Liang for a very long time, he understood all too well what that terrifying man was capable of doing. While others remained completely in the dark, Professor Shen knew firsthand that Master Liang possessed the power to execute anyone who dared to leak company secrets without his explicit authorisation. He had never been able to fathom the precise method Master Liang used to execute people from afar, but he knew with absolute certainty that he did not want to share their gruesome fate.

Professor Shen vividly recalled an incident that occurred just a week prior. Master Liang had casually mentioned to him that one of their key associates had suddenly dropped dead right before revealing classified secrets to outsiders. At that exact moment, Professor Shen had been sitting in the same room with Master Liang, discussing ongoing operational details. Barely an hour later, an urgent report arrived confirming that the individual in question. Hector Vaughn, who had been managing the covert operations on Blackwood Island, had died mysteriously on the spot.

Professor Shen knew precisely why Hector Vaughn had perished so abruptly, and he was terrified of meeting the exact same end.

“Oh, if you are refusing to speak out of fear that you will drop dead the moment you spill the secret, you can put those worries to rest. You would not die.” Yu Qi stated calmly.

“What?” Professor Shen gasped, his eyes widening in pure shock upon hearing her confident claim. “You… You know about that?”

“Well, we make it a point to learn from our past missteps.” Yu Qi replied with a soft chuckle.

A sudden realisation struck Professor Shen like a bolt of lightning.

“Wait… You two were the ones interrogating Hector Vaughn when he died!” Professor Shen exclaimed, piecing the timeline together.

“Ding ding ding… You hit the nail right on the head. Unfortunately, we were a step too late back then, and he died right in front of us before we could extract everything. If we had been aware of the soul curse beforehand, we could have easily neutralised it prior to questioning him. Had we done that, we would not have needed to come all the way here to hunt you down for the details.” Yu Qi said, letting out a soft, amused snort.

“Are you… Are you truly saying I can survive even after telling you everything?” Professor Shen asked, a desperate glimmer of hope lighting up his pale face.

“Well, you could certainly put it that way,” Yu Qi nodded smoothly. In her heart, she silently added, ‘Though whether you survive afterwards entirely depends on how valuable your information turns out to be.’

“I will speak! I will tell you everything!” Professor Shen surrendered without another shred of resistance.

Truthfully, he had grown utterly exhausted and disillusioned with conducting these dark, unnatural experiments. He was already sixty years old. In another decade, he would be an old man of seventy. Even though they had achieved a few minor breakthroughs over the decades, he still could not see any light at the end of this endless, horrific tunnel.

“A wise choice.” Long Hui stated coldly, standing over him like an unwavering judge.

“Lay out every single detail you possess.” Yu Qi instructed, folding her arms.
