Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 988 - 992: Don’t Let Your Imagination Run Wild

At this moment, Huo Jingrui was leading a small team, having just successfully diverted the pursuing enemy.

They had just found a hidden spot to take a temporary break. Looking at the injured and unconscious subordinates, he solemnly gave the order: ”Those three have been relentlessly pursuing us. Commander Zhan’s injury can’t be delayed any longer. The rest of you are all injured too. I’ll go distract them, and you all escort Commander Zhan out of the mountains.”

”Deputy Regimental Commander, let me stay.”

”No need, with Commander Zhan in this condition, they probably can’t manage on their own. Only with you going along can I be at ease. Now’s not the time for impulsiveness; no one can guarantee they’ve only sent one team to pursue us. If there’s a backup plan, it’s too dangerous for just these few wounded.”

Hearing Huo Jingrui’s words, everyone’s eyes went red. Along the way, if it weren’t for the Deputy Regimental Commander’s quick thinking, they might have already lost their lives.

But to leave the Deputy alone, how could they agree: ”Deputy Regimental Commander.”

”No more talking. I cherish life more than anyone. Don’t worry, we’ll all get back to the unit safely.”

As soon as he finished speaking, a noise came from not far away. Huo Jingrui couldn’t care about anything else: ”Remember, don’t follow, that’s an order.”

After speaking, he quickly left their hiding spot, not forgetting to erase traces in the area.

Listening to the departing footsteps of the Deputy, everyone’s hearts wrenched. After all, those pursuing them were no ordinary people, and although the Deputy was skilled, being in these woods for so long...

They also knew that given their current combat capacity, following the Deputy wouldn’t help him; instead, they’d become a burden: ”Listen to the Deputy.”

Next day, Yunyi was at home knitting a sweater for Yuan Zining when she heard Xiao Yurou’s voice coming in: ”Sister-in-law, are you home?”

Yunyi stood up and smiled, waving to her inside the house: ”Come in quickly, how come you have time to drop by?”

Xiao Yurou raised the paper bag in her hand: ”It snowed, so I couldn’t go into Beijing. I made some pumpkin pancakes and brought a few pieces for you two.”

After speaking, she glanced around: ”Where’s Zining?”

Yunyi continued knitting the sweater and said, ”Taken by Xiaowei and them to roll snowballs outside.”

Xiao Yurou seemed a bit disappointed not to see Yuan Zining: ”They’re just freshly made, do you want to try them while they’re still hot?”

Yunyi naturally wouldn’t refuse her gesture: ”Just right, I’m a bit hungry.”

The two laughed as Yunyi got up to wash her hands and took a pumpkin pancake from Xiao Yurou: ”Mm, it tastes good. Did you add glutinous rice to it?”

Xiao Yurou gave her a thumbs-up: ”Sister-in-law, you sure have a great palate.”

As they were chatting, they saw Commissar Hong’s wife, Fang Xiuping, and the Regimental Commander’s wife, Li Laixiang, entering with a woman following behind.

Yunyi stood up to greet them: ”How do you ladies have the time to come over?”

Commissar Hong’s wife, Mrs. Hong, smiled and said: ”Today, Mrs. Feng and I are both off. We heard that your Deputy Regimental Commander has gone on a mission, so we thought we’d come by to check on you.”

Fang Xiuping thought she was concealing something well, but she didn’t know that Yunyi, having experienced major events, could read every little expression clearly: ”Mrs. Hong, it’s not something that happened to my Jingrui, is it?”

She didn’t like guessing games, so she came right out with it.

Fang Xiuping and Li Laixiang exchanged a glance and quickly waved their hands: ”Don’t overthink it.”

But Yunyi was stubborn: ”Sister-in-law, there’s no need to hide anything from me deliberately.”
