Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 975 - 979: We Absolutely Can’t Let Our Guard Down

Huo Shanhe didn’t think his younger daughter-in-law was making baseless accusations: ”I know about this, until Jingrui gets back, stay away from that woman named Yu.”

Yunyi didn’t argue: ”Dad, I understand, but you don’t have to worry about me. Jingrui probably mentioned before that I have ways to protect myself.”

Of course, Huo Shanhe knew, after all, during his son’s mission in Ji Province, his daughter-in-law had helped a lot: ”If our speculation is correct, that woman might have undergone special training, so don’t take it lightly.”

After their conversation, Yunyi quickly ran to the kitchen: ”Mom, I made...”

Before she could finish, she saw her mother-in-law, Jiang Jingya, awkwardly standing there holding a piece of sweet and sour pork tenderloin.

Yunyi, after a momentary pause, burst into laughter: ”Mom, is it tasty?”

Yunyi’s laugh alleviated most of Jiang Jingya’s awkwardness: ”Yiyi, this sweet and sour pork tenderloin is just too delicious.”

After saying that, looking at the piece of sweet and sour pork tenderloin in her hand, then at the plate, she thought: It’s probably not right to put the piece I’ve touched back in the plate, right?

With determination, she simply put it into her mouth.

Yunyi, not wanting her to feel embarrassed: ”Mom, if you like it, I’ll make it for you next time I come back.”

Jiang Jingya, with no talent for cooking, could be called a kitchen disaster, yet she was a genuine foodie: ”Then it’s settled, next time you come back, let Mom know in advance, and I’ll have Auntie Zhang prepare the ingredients.”

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were engrossed in their conversation in the kitchen, while Huo Shanhe couldn’t sit still in the room by himself.

He drank a glass of water, but still didn’t see his wife and younger daughter-in-law coming in, so he had to leave the room and shout towards the kitchen: ”Jingya.”

It was only then the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law realized, and Jiang Jingya whispered: ”Oh no, I was so focused on eating that I forgot about your dad.”

Yunyi cheerfully shouted outside: ”Dad, come help with the dishes.”

Huo Shanhe felt very pleased hearing his younger daughter-in-law’s unreserved words. After all, the other three daughters-in-law in the family were always so restrained around him and never spoke to him so casually.

He quickly stepped into the kitchen, where Yunyi handed him a plate of vermicelli with minced meat and cabbage, along with a plate of shredded potatoes with vinegar.

Jiang Jingya held a plate of sweet and sour pork tenderloin and a small dish of pickles, while Yunyi carried a small bowl of sauerkraut fish. Initially, she planned to grab a hard dish from her space and get the rest from the canteen, but remembering her mother-in-law’s fondness for sweet and sour flavors, she decided to make a plate of sweet and sour pork tenderloin herself.

They then called the guard at the main gate to help bring the cornbread from the canteen into the living room.

Once the meal was set: ”Dad, Mom, Xiaochen was really quick today, aside from the sauerkraut fish and sweet and sour pork tenderloin, everything else is from the canteen.”

Huo Shanhe laughed: ”Perfect, I can also try the food from the military canteen here.”

Jiang Jingya handed out the chopsticks: ”Both dishes you made are my favorites.”

As she spoke, her eyes were full of smiles, it was obvious the daughter-in-law made this especially for her, and she felt sweet inside.

There was no need to even mention the guard Xiaochen: ”Sister-in-law, this is already very good.”

He had often heard his chief praise his younger daughter-in-law’s cooking skills to others, and today was a chance to taste for himself, and later be able to testify to the chief.

Since Huo Shanhe and Jiang Jingya had come during their lunch break, they didn’t stand on ceremony.

Yunyi invited everyone to start eating: ”Xiaochen, eat more.”

Huo Shanhe also spoke to him: ”Eat up, don’t be reserved.”
