Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 828: Chapter 828: The Undisputed King of Soldiers

After the matter was settled, both families were overjoyed.

After Deputy Regimental Commander Geng expressed gratitude several times, the two finally went their separate ways.

Huo Jingrui took the keys and headed toward the courtyard.

The courtyard, while on the edge, had several family quarters lined up behind it. In reality, its location was central, just the most edge unit in that row.

Moreover, the households in front, behind, and to the right weren’t ones to mind others’ business.

He opened the courtyard gate, and it wasn’t too messy inside, probably tidied up by the logistics staff after Political Commissar Qiu’s family moved out.

The structure of the family quarters was similar: three main rooms, plus two annex rooms on the side used for the kitchen and storage room. Only families who can’t fit will build extra rooms at their own cost.

Political Commissar Qiu’s wife was particular, especially since summer rains left everything muddy, she had paths paved in the courtyard.

This suited him perfectly.

After a quick tour, he already had a plan. He first bought coal and a coal stove, lit it, and started warming the house.

Later, he bought paint and hired people to repaint the entire house, including the kitchen and storage room.

During this time, following the layout drawn by Gu Yunyi before, he hired a carpenter from a nearby village to make furniture, agreeing to pick it up in one and a half months.

The three main rooms: the central one served as the living room, the right room was set with a bed for summer living, the left had a raised floor from Political Commissar Qiu’s era, he got it cleared and even added a heat wall.

Every day, apart from military training, his time was spent organizing the house.

One day, Sister-in-law Lü from the neighboring Second Group stepped on a stool and shouted across the courtyard wall: ”Deputy Regimental Commander Huo, is the house almost ready? When are you bringing your wife over to join the army?”

Huo Jingrui, who had completed missions with her husband Lü Mingliang and had a good relationship, replied: ”Sister-in-law Lü, it will be a while before my wife arrives, I want to get the house ready first.”

Wan Ruhua really didn’t expect that the previously unsmiling Deputy Regimental Commander Huo would be so dedicated to fixing up the house.

She’s really curious about Deputy Regimental Commander Huo’s wife now and is looking forward to meeting her in person. She plans to ask how she managed to tame this big ice block.

Once everything was prepared, another ten days or so until the high school exams.

Huo Jingrui also faced a week-long Military Region competition.

As expected, Huo Jingrui excelled in armed five-kilometer cross-country, grappling, precise shooting, and various other contests, proving himself the King of Soldiers.

Brigade Commander Du Tianming watched the competition the entire time: ”This kid’s skills have improved rapidly, seems like he hasn’t laxed even during missions.”

He couldn’t help but feel a little regretful: Why can’t he be one of my family members?

Thinking of past matters, he glanced at Military Political Commissar Guan Yueyang beside him. What would Sister-in-law Guan’s niece think if she knew Deputy Regimental Commander Huo was married?

Having partnered for so long, they shared unspoken understanding.

Political Commissar Guan remarked irritably: ”Just say it, what kind of look is that?”

Brigade Commander Du Tianming lowered his voice: ”Does your niece know about Young Huo’s marriage?”

Political Commissar Guan sighed lightly: ”Of course I told her, she cried a lot and said she would definitely come to see if Deputy Regimental Commander Huo’s wife was better than her, just hoping she won’t make a joke of herself.”

Brigade Commander Du Tianming laughed unkindly at this: ”With your niece’s personality, she’ll surely cause you some headaches.”
