Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 827: Chapter 827: Room Swap

Huo Jingrui looked in the direction of the voice: ”Deputy Regimental Commander Geng, what is this?”

Geng Qiusheng said somewhat embarrassedly: ”There’s something I’d like to discuss with you.”

Huo Jingrui asked in confusion: ”What is it?”

What matter could there be between them, when they don’t belong to the same regiment?

Geng Qiusheng scratched his head and pointed to the empty space ahead: ”Deputy Commander Huo, let’s go over there and talk.”

He was really embarrassed to bring this up, but his wife was determined to live in an apartment, and the logistics department had told him that he applied late. The last apartment in the newly constructed building was allocated to Deputy Commander Huo.

To live in an apartment, he would either have to wait for a new one or exchange with someone else, so he thickened his face and came over.

Huo Jingrui nodded and walked over first: ”Go ahead, what’s the matter?”

Geng Qiusheng handed a cigarette to Huo Jingrui, but Huo Jingrui usually didn’t smoke much anyway, and Yunyi had said smoking wasn’t allowed since they were preparing for pregnancy. He waved his hand: ”In the end, it irritates the throat.”

Seeing Huo didn’t smoke, Geng lit it for himself, took a deep drag: ”Deputy Commander Huo, here’s the thing...”

Huo Jingrui understood. Deputy Commander Geng had assumed the military spouse qualification after three years of marriage, but then his mother fell ill, so his wife had stayed home to care for her for seven years.

A few months ago, Deputy Commander Geng’s mother passed away, and he planned to bring his wife and children to live with him in the military. At home, he’d casually mentioned the new apartment building the army had constructed, which excited his wife, Feng Qiaomei.

Since then, she became fixated on living in an apartment, and their three children were clamoring to go live with their dad in the army apartment.

However, when he applied for housing through logistics, he learned that all apartments in the new building were allocated, with only Deputy Commander Huo and Commander Kong’s families not yet moved in.

Commander Kong hadn’t moved in because he was on a mission and had not returned yet, and Commander Kong’s wife, Liu Xiaoyuan, had returned south to attend her nephew’s wedding.

Rumor had it she would return in a few days, but Commander Kong’s wife was quite solitary, and he worried any mishandling might harm relations, so he came to try his luck with Deputy Commander Huo.

Huo Jingrui was fretting over how to switch the apartment for a courtyard. After all, the Regimental Commander reserving the apartment for him was goodwill, but he hadn’t acted overly eager, especially since it’s not far from the Regimental Commander’s office: ”Geng, this has already been logged by logistics. Wouldn’t it be improper to change it spontaneously?”

Deputy Commander Geng thought Huo Jingrui was unwilling: ”Deputy Commander Huo, I know this is not very proper, but my wife has spent a decade honoring my responsibilities at home, I really don’t want to disappoint her...”

He found himself unable to continue.

Huo Jingrui took it to a good end: ”Since you’ve said this much, let’s make the exchange.”

Deputy Commander Geng had done thorough mental preparation, planning various possibilities, but the issue was resolved just like that: ”Brother, I’ll remember this favor, call me if you need anything in the future.”

The two headed together toward logistics.

The personnel responsible for housing allocations, seeing the two deputy commanders coming together, worried they might put him in a tight spot over the housing, quickly stood up to greet them: ”Deputy Commanders, why have you both come over together?”

The issue hadn’t originated with Deputy Commander Geng, so he naturally spoke first: ”Staff Officer Du, I’ve agreed with Deputy Commander Huo to exchange houses and came to register it.”

Staff Officer Du, upon hearing this, looked at Huo Jingrui: ”Deputy Commander Huo, are you really going to exchange houses?”

Huo Jingrui said plainly: ”Deputy Commander Geng mentioned it to his wife and kids, if I don’t help, he’ll lose credibility in front of them, which would be unpleasant.”
