Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 1039 - 1043: Once I Leave, Uncle Will Surely Be Pleased

As soon as the Xia Family left, someone came to visit Yunyi: ”Comrade Chu, Elder Yuan sent me to pick up Zining and take him back.”

Yunyi frowned slightly. ”Things at home are all taken care of?”

The person nodded. ”Yes, they’ve already been handled.”

Yunyi looked toward the yard next door. ”Wait here a bit. Zining went out with some new friends, I’ll go find him and bring him back.”

But she had just stepped out the gate when she saw a bunch of little kids coming back, carrying a basket and shouting noisily.

From a distance, Yuan Zining yelled, ”Teacher-aunt, we caught rabbits!”

The few kids hurried their steps and came toward her in cooperation.

When they got closer, Yunyi really did see three little rabbits in the basket they were carrying. ”Where did you catch them?”

The son of Commander Xue, Xue Jishan, was the most excited. ”We found a rabbit nest, but unfortunately the big rabbit got away.”

Yuan Zining, delighted, told Yunyi all about how they’d caught the little rabbits, his expression very animated.

Wan Ruhua, who was tidying up in the house, heard the commotion outside and came out too. When she saw the little rabbits in their basket, she turned to her own son, Lü Xiaowei, and said, ”Didn’t I tell you you could only play at the foot of the mountain? So you all went up the mountain?”

Afraid of a beating, Lü Xiaowei hurried to explain. ”We didn’t go up the mountain, we found these rabbits right at the foot. If you don’t believe me, ask them.”

The little friends all chimed in at once to tell the story again. Only when Wan Ruhua saw that they really hadn’t gone up the mountain did she breathe a sigh of relief, though she still didn’t forget to give this bunch of little rascals another round of warnings.

After that was over, Yunyi finally turned to Yuan Zining. ”Zining, your grandpa sent someone to pick you up.”

Yuan Zining, who had been smiling a moment ago, immediately put his smile away. ”Didn’t we say we’d go back together in a few days?”

Yunyi helped him wipe off the smudge of dirt that had gotten on his face. ”Since he sent someone to fetch you, there must be something going on.”

Zining had always been mature for his age. ”Teacher-aunt, I was wrong then. I’ll go back first.”

Yunyi patted his head. ”Next long holiday, Teacher-aunt will have you come over again.”

When the little friends heard that Yuan Zining was leaving, they were instantly full of reluctance. They huddled together and whispered for a long time. ”Yuan Zining, we cornered these rabbits together, so you ought to have one.”

Yuan Zining looked at the little rabbits in the basket, then at Yunyi.

Yunyi nodded to him. ”Do whatever you think is right.”

Yuan Zining clasped his fists to the little friends. ”Then I’ll respectfully accept rather than decline.”

Seeing him like this, Yunyi asked with a smile, ”Where did you all learn these jianghu rules?”

The little kids just burst into giggles and refused to say.

Yunyi didn’t press them. Yuan Zining picked out one little rabbit, then repeatedly promised the boys that he’d come stay with his teacher-aunt during the holidays, and also welcomed them to come to the city to play with him whenever they had time.

Yunyi went back and found him a cloth bag with a hole in it. ”Use this for now. Once you’re back, find Qiao the carpenter at the street corner and have him make you a cage to keep it in.”

Yuan Zining was quite efficient. He packed up his own things, took along the snacks Yunyi had prepared for him. ”Teacher-aunt, I’m all packed.”

Yunyi lifted a hand and tapped his forehead. ”Just now you couldn’t bear to part with your little friends. How come I don’t see a trace of reluctance when it comes to Teacher-aunt?”

Yuan Zining turned to the person who’d come to pick him up instead. ”You go hold my things first, I’ll be right there.”

Then he leaned close to Yunyi’s ear. ”It’s not that far anyway. Besides, in a few days you and Uncle are going back to the city for New Year too. We’ll see each other again soon.”

After he finished, he added mysteriously, ”Once I’m gone, Uncle will definitely be happy. He’s probably been wishing I’d hurry up and go back.”

Yunyi was amused by his words, and indeed that was something she couldn’t deny.
