Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 1006 - 1010: Plotting in the Shadows

After sending off the admissions officers from various schools, Huo Shanhe did not leave.

He said somewhat awkwardly, ”Yunyi, Dad, there’s something I want to talk to you about.”

Yunyi saw his expression and had a vague premonition of something bad: ”Dad, sit down and talk.”

Huo Shanhe took a deep breath: ”Yunyi, your admission letter hasn’t arrived because...”

He found it difficult to continue, it was really hard to speak about, but he had no choice. After all, this matter couldn’t be hidden. If the younger son came back and investigated on his own, he couldn’t imagine the consequences.

He sighed heavily: ”It’s because your Third Sister-in-law, using her father’s name, meddled behind the scenes.”

Yunyi never thought it would turn out to be this issue. She had considered many reasons before, but never this possibility. At this moment, she didn’t even know what to say to alleviate her anger.

Seeing his daughter-in-law remain silent, Huo Shanhe said, ”Don’t worry, I won’t force you to swallow your grievances with talks of peace and family harmony. I just ask you not to take out your anger on your Third Brother. I’ve looked into it; he knows nothing about it.”

Yunyi still didn’t speak, her face looking quite displeased.

Huo Shanhe knew she was pregnant: ”Yunyi, vent your anger in any way you like, but don’t let it harm you. I originally wanted to talk to your mom first, and when she calms down, to discuss this with you together.

But you know your mom’s temper. I’m afraid she’ll rush over directly. To be clear, I’m not protecting your Third Sister-in-law. The issue is, she’s also pregnant now, and if your mom acts impulsively and something happens, it won’t end well.”

Yunyi frowned and asked, ”Jingrui is on a mission and not around. Aren’t you afraid that I might act impulsively and something happens?”

This question left Huo Shanhe speechless.

He knew that this daughter-in-law was not someone easy to deal with. If this issue wasn’t handled well, there could be a rift between his youngest son and the family. He was well aware of his younger son’s temperament, and he had long been managed by his daughter-in-law.

On reflection, he realized he had some selfish motives. He said aloud that she could handle Duan Zhuangyu any way she wanted, but now with Duan Zhuangyu’s condition, she couldn’t be beaten or scolded, leaving no way to vent her anger.

He sighed again in his heart: ”If your Third Sister-in-law weren’t pregnant now, I wouldn’t say much about whatever punishment she deserved. But if something happens, I’m afraid your mom will face criticism, and there might be a rift between brothers.

Yunyi, how about this: it’s clear your Third Sister-in-law is in the wrong here. It’s perfectly justified for you to go and hold her accountable. I just ask if you could persuade your mom not to act too rashly. In the future, the share that should go to your Third Brother from me, I’ll allocate it to you as compensation.

Does that sound okay to you?”

If it were someone else, Yunyi might have kicked them out already. Was she someone who was lacking in material things?

But in front of her was her father-in-law. She also knew that what he was doing wasn’t siding with the Third Brother or Sister-in-law. Indeed, he was considering her mother-in-law and her marriage. After all, in the public eye, the admission letter was eventually received. If they made too much of a fuss, it would only provide fuel for the gossips with an agenda.

After all, this matter couldn’t be hidden, and there were more than just one or two families targeting the Huo Family. If something really went wrong, they would quickly capitalize on it.

After quite some time, Yunyi finally calmed her emotions: ”I understand your point. I can persuade mother-in-law and Jingrui, but I won’t cover up for her.”

Huo Shanhe nodded and said, ”You reap what you sow. She can’t blame anyone else for her lack of sense.”
